Absolutely! I loved how real and relatable it was. I'm glad they decided to show Bill & Frank's relationship because we don't get to see that in the game. I love the little things they change in the TV show to keep the new audience and the gamers on their toes.

You took the words right out of my mouth. It's so nice to finally see a show - or anything for that matter - that finally acknowledges that there are more types of gay men in the world than just the youthful pretty boys or flamboyant, over-the-top effeminate stereotypes inserted just for humour that is the usual portrayal.

He mentioned showing a middle aged relationship. Until he said that I didn't realise that's part of what made that episode amazing. There are too many Teen and Twenty something relationship dramas. Episode 3 really showed the depths of emotions and challenges that come with an older relationship. It makes the ending so much more beautiful and tragic. Imo.

Druckmann saying the greater the change the better it has to be is so true, words that the movie and tv industry need to heed. We live in an era of remakes medium changes that are more often than not atrocious. Do it properly, with grace and respect for the source material and enjoy the fruits of your labor. The fans know what they want, it is the job of the creators to capture that and Druckmann has done it masterfully. Take notes, Hollywood.

That phrase has been honored in every aspect of the show. They chose two of the most amazing actors for their age (Ellie and Sarah) for the cast changes that some game fans disliked, with Sarah bringing the first tears. I'm still grieving her death because she was such a lovely character. For the virus's backstory, they have consistently shown the realism that creates a true horror because of the truth of what a pandemic would look like if such microorganisms got to infect people through food. This is a show intelligently done by passionate people. I deeply respect that.

100%, although the witcher was a book adaptation, it's the example that jumps to mind that is the polar opposite to The Last of Us. Even more changes were made to the witcher, but almost none of them improved or even matched the source material. The changes also betrayed the nature of the characters, The Last of Us so far has done a great job at keeping true to all of it's characters whilst expanding upon the original game

OMG these two!!! Nick Offerman and Murray Bartlett just go on to show in this interview why their chemistry worked so well on-screen, the way they riff off of each other during the "package" and "grandiosity" comments, they were meant to be Bill and Frank. Most amazing casting choice I have seen in the recent times and the episode did absolute justice to the brilliance of these two phenomenal actors on-screen. This was Screen Gold!!!

The nuance and respect and the facets of humanity and loss that they portrayed in this episode was absolutely beautiful and well crafted. I cried so much. Their cloistered world against the apocalyptic backdrop makes their reality much more stark, makes their lives that much more precious.

so i decided to watch the show a little later on because i knew I KNEW i wasn’t going to want to stop watching. i watched this episode and, kid you not, it made me so sad i had to take a shower to have a little mental break. needless to say what a beautiful slice of life in an apocalypse where there’s no hope and no cure, i loved it

Honestly I didn't know how to feel about episode 3 mostly because I was here for "accuracy" but it's an adaptation and not meant to be exactly copy n paste and I honestly appreciate that effort. The writers brought a whole different meaning to their partnership and the amount of times I was crying throughout the episode just couldn't make me not like it. Absolutely amazing writing in Frank and Bill's story and beautiful acting. I'm glad they chose to go this route. I also found it amusing how they had Nick Offerman a well known "macho man" have character that's able to be so emotional and that just because of your sexuality that doesn't take away from being a big strong huntsman lumberjack kinda guy. I can't rave about this episode enough :,))

I’ve seen a lot of people interpret this change as Bill fulfilling the same purpose as a foil to Joel in the game, but from the opposite side of the coin, so even though it’s a big change the message isn’t really lost. In the game Bill is bitter and alone, having driven off the only emotional connection he had (Frank) due to his abrasive attitude, which is a warning about what Joel might become if he can’t open himself up and emotionally connect with Ellie. Surviving, but emotionally dead and isolated, and without purpose. Bill in the show represents the value that being open to another person can have. He goes from just surviving to truly living and enjoying life once Frank encourages him to open up and care more about his surroundings & the little things in life, and he has something to fight for outside of himself. It’s representing what Joel’s life can be if he can move past his trauma and connect with Ellie. So Bill serves a similar purpose either way! Personally I think I like the more positive outlook in the show better.

Frank growing the strawberries and seeing his pride and joy when he showed Bill was so damn sweet. Bill's delight at eating one, and the way he looks at Frank after is just some of the most wholesome stuff ever. Like Frank was excited to grow them and show Bill, and you could tell Bill was really touched by it. It's really the little things that mean so SO much to people.
