I had to clench the armrest of our couch to remain silent as I had promised my wife years ago to never pooh pooh realism, or lack thereof, in movies. It wasn't easy!

In my opinion, it was either just for the sake of the camera shot. Yk badass dude taking out a bunch of raiders in the middle of the street. Or it was meant to convey the panic that Bill was inevitably feeling. We’ve only seen him against walkers up to this point, not people. So the panic dumb decision of just being out in the middle of the road is kind of fair. I’m still surprised by it but it would make a bit of sense if that was the case

I saw a theory the raiders set off an initial alarm and Bill went to investigate thinking it was a deer or single intruder or something-hence the lack of preparedness and only being armed with a hunting rifle.

That was smart. He got a sniper rifle with a scope. Yeah you can call it "hunting" rifle all you want. It is still a sniper rifle. With a scope. Ok back to the story. He got a sniper rifle with a scope and went straight to a visible location right in the middle of the street to shoot? That is like having a pistol and shooting it point blank every time you shoot. Might as well use a knife. The guy has a 2 storey house. Scope from the damn window. Or if he was smart, make a roof access and scope the area from the roof.
