The Last of Us Episode 6 ‘Kin’ REACTION (Non-Gamer) | Ain't Nothing But a Family Thing

Күн бұрынBeautiful landscapes and a little bit of humor, plus one major reunion! This episode had it all, and still managed to eek out a cliffhanger at the end. It was awesome to see Rutina Wesley from True Blood pop up, but the major moment was the return of Gabriel Luna as Tommy. The "guest star" who stole the show in my opinion was the beautiful snowy scenery (THANK YOU to KEITH who told me in the comments in the last video that this was all filmed in Canada), though a close second were the very funny couple at the beginning, played by Graham Greene and Elaine Miles. Joel and Ellie were excellent as always, and we even got a quick flashback cameo of Sarah.
I am a not a gamer (except a mean round of Mario Kart in '03), and I had never played nor ever heard of the game The Last of Us before HBO Max turned it into a show. We're only have a few episodes left at this point, and I'm excited to see how season 1 concludes. I hope that you'll come on the journey with me!

My daughter and I both have said if Joel dies we quit watching.. 😁 But seriously tho. The town they were in is an actual town. Of course they built extra stuff just for the show. Do you watch after the credits, where they talk about the episode?

Haha right?? And I'm so glad you brought this up- NO, I don't, not yet. Only because I'm afraid to see the trailers for the next one or any potential spoilers. I want to go in completely clean to each episode without any explanation or previews. Mazin and Druckmann have a gift for writing vivid characters within a short space of time. The couple in the cabin scene are a case in point. A better example, though, was Henry and Sam in the last episode. Their actual screen time wasn't that much, yet we felt as if we'd known them for a long time and invested in them deeply. Of course, credit also belongs to the actors, who flesh out this great material.

The Goodbye Girl was the movie in town. It has a similar theme of someone getting close to a person and then having to decide whether to stay or leave.

Thanks, Steve!! I thought that's what it was. Richard Dreyfuss, Marsha Mason- I saw that years ago but I don't remember much of it. Except for a great scene where he comes home drunk, and she's like, "I thought you didn't put unnatural things in your body?", and he replies, "I didn't... I put it into Richard's... I'm trying to kill the son of a bitch!" haha

I love that they showed us the town in the series, which in the games doesn't happen till part 2. Also, a small correction from what I said before: We have seen Stalkers in the show, the one in the basement was one and the ones that gow blown up by Tess, at least the one that kissed her.

Ahh gotcha, no worries! Yeah, the town was great. I don't know nothin' from nothin', but if I were guessing, we'll be seeing the town again. I would say don't spoil it for me if you know, but it seems like they've done a nice job of making things a surprise for even the gamers, at least on some level.

Great reaction! 😊 As someone who hasn't played the game, I'm really enjoying this show. Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey are both fantastic in this. This is definitely one of my top favorite episodes so far. Looking forward to your next reaction. 😊

When in the stables towards the end Joel gives Little Bear Ellie a choice, to go with Tommy or himself and she instantly tosses her stuff to Joel. For Ellie, there isn't a choice, it's Joel each and everytime... in my humble opinion. Again, thank you amigo☺💚

@@DavidvsFilm Yeah I was so skeptical when I heard the 9 episode season would cover the entire first game. There's just so much content in the game! They've definitely done a great job, but they easily could've had more episodes. I would not have complained to get even more of this amazing show!

Without giving anything away for those who have never played the game...ending the episode like they did follows pretty faithfully to what they did in the game, where they suddenly shift away from you playing as Joel to you playing as Ellie, and leaves you wondering what happened for a while. If the show follows, I expect the next episode will start from Ellie's point of view and leave you guessing for a bit.

The couple in the cabin at the beginning of the episode; "There are firefly people?!",then they chuckle. They both are probably imagining people with butts that light up! ( a mating signal ) 😜🤣

I'd be kinda pissed off at my little brother if I were Joel. Never in my wildest dreams did I think his brother was not just alive but thriving and in love! Like...why not send a message out to Joel so he knows he is alive?!? Grrrrrrrr that I just don't understand!

Yeah exactly. That is a great instance of where this show does move a little too fast in some parts. There was a quick moment of Joel suggesting that it was Maria controlling him, but then we moved on. Honestly, you could almost have an entire spinoff show just focusing on Jackson in my opinion; but we were only there for a second, figuratively speaking, and didn't get a lot of answers.

This was a meaty emotional episode. Plus, we got some scenery changes, met new characters, I think that’s why it feels so full. Really great scenes in this one between Joel and Tommy, and Joel and Ellie, I hope they win some Emmys. Of course they had to twist the knife errr baseball bat in at the end and leave you in despair because what fun would it be otherwise? 🤪 I’m only mad there are three more weeks of pain. I could go for another 10.

Seriously! And I know it's not fair to compare this to Walking Dead because they are completely different shows and the only thing truly linking them is the "post-apocalyptic" nature, but that said, I feel like we are SPRINTING with this show compared to WD. WD reminded me of how I once heard the pace of soap operas described: "If you see them make a pot of coffee, they won't be drinking the first cup until six months from now." This show, by contrast, is moving through plot points, timelines, and characters at an alarming pace. I hope they have a long-term plan because people like me are getting invested lol

Did you ever watch Northern Exposure? The actress who was the wife of the awesome couple at the beginning was the nurse/office assistant in the doctor's office. I love her so much and hope she gets more work from this small role.

I honestly thought Tommy was going to take her to Colorado, Joel ends up feeling guilty and following, but catching up when those guys end up killing Tommy, because someone announcing their happy and about to be a parent in an post apocalyptic show doesn't usually end well.

I was so happy to see the actress who played “Tara” in TRUE BLOOD! And Tommy. This episode had me scared when I saw the monkeys. I was worried that they were infected. 😂

I'm so emotionally spent that when I saw monkeys I was like, "Yeah, ok sure, why not.." lol. Even uninfected though, monkeys are dangerous wild cards! Put them back in the barrel!! And we need more Tommy. That's all :)

The rules are going to change depending on threat level of your environment and other factors. You are out in the West east of the Rockies. They talk about all of the infected being in the city areas. The "no fire" rule is good unless obeying it means you will freeze to death. Have you ever walked in snow? It's loud. Ever ridden a horse? It's loud as fuck. Might as well talk; that horse is announcing your presence anyway. Human population out there was low before the infection; it'll be very small after. You don't need to watch out for raiders most of the time unless you are in more populated areas (like a university town) the same way you would outside of a capital city like Boston. There are a lot of things you aren't considering.

The old Native American guy reminds me of my uncle, the woman is far from my aunt though, she would have whupped Joel's ass. Ellie is amazing. "Almost normal" its an actual town, I'd love to live somewhere like that. I didn't expect to find Tommy yet. Pedro is amazing, finally being able to open up to his brother and everything spewing out. Even as Mando with a helmet on the whole time he can emote. While it seems that Ellie has good trigger discipline, it annoys me that she points with the gun lol. Don't worry, Grogu is going to fly in to heal Mand- I mean Joel. Eventhough a stab to the gut is one of the worst places, especially without medical training and supplies, I don't think he's done done.

Haha yeah, I would agree. And regarding Tommy, I was surprised he was gone from this much of the show. Once the episodes got rolling and it was established that they were scattered on opposite ends of the country, it made sense of course. But initially, I thought that Gabriel Luna was going to be one of the main stars of the season. Now I'm realizing the only main stars are Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey, which is even more of why I'd be surprised if they kill him off now. (at which point I fully expect Tommy would take over in that role of shepherd to Ellie)

David! I'm sorry to hijack a comment for something unrelated to the reaction, but I'm a wee bit desperate! I'm disabled and my roommate works retail, and we have to get our ENTIRE water system replaced for our home. I do Oracle card readings (similar to tarot but with less restrictions) and have a very high rate of accuracy and "customer" satisfaction, and I'm offering them up at a discounted rate to try to bring some money in to fix our water. If any of y'all are interested, let me know, it would be a huge help and a blessing just to even do one or two for anybody. David you can delete this if you want!
