Interesting wee Factoid here, y'all: Ft Point is the name of the Civil War fort nestled 'neath the arch on the 'Frisco" side of the Golden Gate bridge. This 4 story relic with its 12-14' thick brick walls was thought to be impregnable to smooth-bore cannon and erected as a bulwark to thwart a possible Confederate incursion to establish a beachhead on the west coast. Alas, by the time of its completion, it was rendered doubly obsolete by the simple fact of the wars end & by the advent of the rifled gun-barrel cannon. I was in the CA Cadet Corps for two yrs in HS and on one of our field trips, we spent the weekend at the fort, re-enacting the part of Union troops, complete with watch-standing duties. One of the best times of this old MARINE'S life!!! RIP, Mr Krumhaus, Commandant CA Army Nat'l Guard, wherever you are!!

My step grandfather was the head wrangler for the studios back in the day and not only knew Ronald Reagan, but also, got him into the movies! I heard him talk about Reagan as not being the smartest tac in the box but made a very convincing actor!!!

Got to love Hollywood. Trapdoor Springfield rifles, featured prominently in this movie, were not adopted by the army until 1873 - 8 years after the civil war ended.

Hollywood wasn't so particular on accuracy of arms,equipment,etc. See often, throughout the 20th century. John Wayne movies are the same. Trapdoors were plentiful and probably cheap. Don't thinkmovie going public really cared.

An interesting Ronald Reagan film,who rose to become one of the successful President of USA in later years.Ronda Fleming was a REAL beauty who ruled Hollywood for many years despite keen competition from other heroines of her time.In fact western movies are a treat to watch & that too much much later.

I Love this Flick! Fleming is drop dead gorgeous, as always. And Ronaldus Maximus is in his element outfoxing all enemies and leading everyone in the obvious best direction. Interesting to see, and think about, a Confederate battle against Apaches (towards the end.) Brilliant! Thanks for posting.

The USA took El Paso then went to Ft Davis, said to hell with it, and returned to El Paso. The Comanche ruled the country from the Rio Grande to Kansas. The Texans fought them from the Rio to the Red River. We had one battle on Dove Creek with the Kickapoo in 1865,

The US Army did recruit Confederate POWs to fight the Native American Tribes in the West. This story is fictional. But real life is stranger than fiction. Brother vs. Brother was commonplace during the Civil War. 8 of my ancestors fought for the Union. 4 for the Confederacy. The southern half of my family didn't speak to the northern half until 2016 after I managed to patch things up. It was a very bitter war.
