Most Americans know the Red Scare of the 1950s but most don't know about the Lavender Scare which resulted in thousands of gays and lesbians being dismissed from the Federal Workforce. Join me for a super fast explanation of its roots and consequences of this sad period of US History.

Thank you so much for the videos you make Mr. Hughes. I have actually managed to retain so much information - the U.S. constitution in particular - because of your lectures.

I started watching your videos for a college level Virginia History course and they helped me with the class immensely, I ended up passing with a 100%. I remained subbed afterwards and am surprised to say I am still hooked on your content and will definitely be watching the vids in the future. Your fast paced style of focusing on pertinent information while still sounding like a human being makes these videos incredibly easy to watch and retain knowledge from. Thanks a ton for what you do!

It’s shocking that in 2019 there are still _22 states_ where you can lose your job for being gay. “Land of the free” indeed.

A good point for a follow up vid. It all depends on a number of factors what happens, though.

What I really appreciate about your work is you don't call names, you don't bombard me with your opinion, you just state history, you state facts, you state what happened. I don't care what anyone's opinion is, when I want just facts, I come to you. Thank you for keeping it pure.

TO HIP HUGHES: Your video taught me some things I never learned in school (as have other videos by you). Thanks for that. I like your teaching style, and have subscribed and am sharing your videos in a large Facebook group and encouraging other to watch them too. I also think this particular video was good to see now, as the recent SCOTUS decision on LGBTQ rights is significant. Near the end of your video you mentioned the number of states that still had onerous laws on the books that allowed employers to fire LGBTQ people, and now the SCOTUS has affirmed the rights of citizens.

Hi! I love your channel. It was a huge help during my high school days, and I continue to enjoy your videos. I know you care a lot about describing things correctly, so I wanted to let you know as a gay man myself that we don't call ourselves "the gays" in any context which is not satirical. "Gay" is an adjective, as is "transgender." Thank you so, so much for sharing LGBT+ history. Our history is usually overlooked, and having our history hidden has done a lot of damage to our fight for rights, so it means a lot to see it be shared.
@edwardb359

Also, legislation was just passed that allows doctors to refuse to treat people like me (despite their oaths) across the country. By the way, if you would like to discuss more LGBT+ history, I would be happy to help in any way I can.

Okay ... I am half through, and you may have answered this in the second-half of your video, BUT how in the heck did Eisenhower's executive order #10450 affect the attitude of J. Edgar Hoover. Such action personifies the ignorance such phobias were built on.
