65 now. I have spent my life figuring this out for myself. The book summarized my life lessons. My parents were narcissists and I married a covert one, That is the best lesson in understanding Human Nature a human can have. Started asking why at the age of 7 and have never stopped. I would say - look inside yourself for the cause of EVERYTHING that happens in your life and never be a victim or blame.

The best and most important thing I learned from this book was the Law of Narcissm. Once I learned that we are all narcissists in some way or form, it allowed me to relax a bit and observe my interactions with others more astutely. I've also realized that we all judge people. Every single one of us. Whether it is based off of their appearance, something they said, or how they even stand up...Reading others closely and properly is certainly a superpower in a world of distractions. One more thing: The master of patience can be the master of anything.

It's very easy to become very self critical as you navigate the laws of human nature.I sense it in this video that you are very critical of yourself which is completely understandable I mean you can't become aware of others without becoming aware of yourself but this draws the question of then what;what measures are you giving your readers to navigate the self criticism that follows awareness of human behaviour within one self, you have tackled other people but what about what to do within yourself as you begin to identify the negative traits you have mentioned.Ps;I'm a huge fan of your books and your work and it's with great respect for you that I ask this question ⁉️

So, I was reading this book last year. There's a chapter on grandiosity where Robert uses Michael Eisner as an example. But I could not help seeing similarities to a certain presidential candidate prominent when the book was released. What was really wild though was that the drama with Twitter was unfolding as I read and the descriptions seemed fit Elon Musk to a tee.

I agree that we all have certain amounts of all these traits. Regarding narcissism, it is important to differentiate between having narcissistic tendencies (most of all us) and being disordered. Someone with NPD is not reading this book and self reflecting on what they can change about their compulsive behavior. The individual void of empathy has no reason to do so. Empathy allows us to be aware of the hurt and pain we cause others. Still a great book though.

Hi Robert, A few years ago i went through something very painful, during the process of healing I read a book called "how to have confidence and power in dealing with people" by Les Giblin. He wrote about things you often speak about and i used it daily. that's why i think you can help me. Ever since I read that book I cant unlearn the fact that everyone in the world is selfish and no one really cares unless it benefits themself in some way, even if its the subconscious self satisfaction to do "selfless" things for others - its still selfish. I feel like i cant trust anyone fully and i cant commit to anyone because i understand things can change at any moment and it doesn't necessary have to have anything to do with you. I want to have healthy relationships but I cant get over the fact that it is all selfish. What is your honest perspective on this? feel free to be brutally honest if you think i have a unrealized problem
