You know, I can respect Zambrano. The guy knew he was getting lazy and losing his drive for the game, and instead of taking more money and dragging out a career that had peaked years prior, he opted to fulfill his outstanding contract and go. It’s a bit lazy, but I can respect a person who knows when to walk away.

I think Carlos was the most hated cub of that period even by us cub fans, though it may be a tie with him Milton Bradley and Michael Barrett. The thing is all of these guys were born with a supreme talent and worked at it hard and diligently enough to make it to the big leagues only to go welp I’m here and that’s it absolutely no more drive but 100x more of the attitude.

I respect a player who knows when to retire also. Adrian Beltre being the perfect example. Guy went out on top, in fact his last season was one of his better ones. Torii Hunter also, Torii slugged 22 HR's his last year! So much more classy than a guy who hangs on going to spring trainings and getting cut, then going to another or accepts a minor league assignment.

Andruw Jones is the laziest player i have ever seen. Non-speedsters like Paul LoDuca and Brad Hawpe took an extra base when Jones played their routine singles lackadaisically, with the submarine flip back toward the infield not even getting near 2nd base ahead of the runner. Then, when the Braves had finally had enough of him at age 30, he signed with the Dodgers and showed up to spring training very fat. When asked about his weight, he laughed it off. He was told that the fans might not appreciate their team's big free agent showing up so out of shape, so he said he didn't care what the fans thought. If he was such a great player, why did very smart baseball guys like John Scheurholz and Bobby Cox let him walk out the door as a free agent in the prime of his career? I can't believe there are people who want to put Andruw Jones in the Hall of Fame.

I went to take the trash to the dumpster and when I opened up the gate and walked in Sandoval was sitting between the two dumpsters eating a full pie. Did he do it during his career? Did he throw games? So on and so forth, he opened the door for everything to be in question, especially with Baseball being a Game where the best failed 7 times out of 10. What if he deliberately failed one time out of 10? What if it was one of 100 but the one time it would really mean something? Just like cheating in a relationship, it opens up endless questions and you can no longer trust any of it.

Babe Ruth actually got operated on for gallstones I believe during the so called bellyache heard around the world. Certainly he abused his body and could have taken better care of himself. But then again almost every player was living that lifestyle back then.

Dishonorable mention: Chris Brown (3B, Giants, Padres, Tigers, 1984-89). Brown's malingering, weight issues and lack of hustle are why he didn't last long with any of the three MLB teams he played for. Most notably, in 1989, he got cut by Detroit just a month and a half into the regular season (just months after the Tigers coughed up their #3 starter, Walt Terrell, to acquire him). Prior to his release, team president Jim Campbell said, "There's a cancer in this clubhouse that we've got to get rid of."

During our National League Central days, Puhols was definitely the Astros biggest nemesis. He was a phenomenal hitter during his Cardinal years. I couldn’t wait for him to become a free agent. I was horrified when Pujols signed with the Angels shortly after finding out the Astros were moving to the AL West. I thought, “he’s following us”.@@kendallevans4079

This will probably sound crazy after the season he just had but Acuña is pretty lazy. Not lazy enough to make this list but lazy enough to piss me off once every 5 games or so. So many infield hits he could have had but didn’t hustle. Sometimes he looks like a high school kid out there in a MLB players body.
