Chuck, I hope you see this. My boys (9 & 11) have taken up Leather Workin within their 4H group. We have found yer videos to be the best on KZfaq! We've watched so many of yer Lether Element videos over the last 2 weeks, we all feel like pretty good crafters. I tried out my very first, two sleeve card holder today and boy howdy, what a disaster!!! We can only afford the cheap stuff at the moment and we don't live anywhere near any leather shops, but we're goin to give it hell! Yer videos are hands down the best! Hot tip for organizing. I haven't used this with leather tools but I have 3 oldschool file cabinets in my garage. One has various "jigs" for woodworking projects. One has Bettery operated tools and even a hole in the back with a power strip and charging stations. Third draw has more tools and fourth has file folders wherre sandpaper is sorted by type and grit. Third cab has spray cans, PB Blaster, lithium grease etc and other draws have stains etc. No reason most of the patterns, lace, and tools that get limited use can't be done the same way. Chemicals could be in a plastic dishpan in the bottom draw.

OLD Leather Smith here, Great Job Chuck, like you I have been doing this awhile. I designed my new shop from bottom up, I use peg boards through out on piano hinges this way I can inventory on both sides, with a magnet 2 hold it closed. 4 tools I use wire holders 4 vehicle wiring they have a barb on one side which fits inside the peg board holes and the tool handle fits inside where the wire goes, I also use magnet bars 2 hold metal cutting blades with wood handles. I made my cutting table out of 4 drawer slide out cabinets whish I can design 2 hold all my hardware and knives 8 cabinets with 4 drawers each and everything available underneath my cutting table which is on casters so I can move it anywhere in the shop. I have like you designed or made all my benches which is another story. Sorry 4 so loooong. GOD'S BLESSINGS ✝️⚾🙃

Great video! My "shop" is a 2'x4' folding leg table I set up in my living room. 😂 I have a metal 5 shelf storage rack in my bedroom. Supplies and tools are in boxes and bags at the moment. It's a pain to set up and tear down, but it's still worth it. As money allows, I am getting better organizers with adjustable compartments and locking lids. (No spills) I do like the liquids in a plastic toolbox idea. Mine are in separate zip bags in a cardboard box. I love the leather elements, Chuck. You always share helpful info. Keep them coming! Time to build a proper shop, at the moment I've got a round kitchen table with a round piece of granite as my work space. Cluttered is an understatement. The shipping container it's in is entirely too cold to keep my dye, glue, leather balm from freezing .

I was just in my garage today making mental notes of how I will organize starting January 2. 1st thing is clean up Christmas and put away and then tackle a years worth of garage mess.

I've bought yoga mats and cut to the size of my drawers, then organized and cut out inserts for all my tools. Everything has a place and it keeps the workbench clean.

Chuck, I’ve been watching leather-craft videos for a long while and now think it’s time to get started. What I’d like you to do is publish a list of tools that are needed to get started and also a second list of useful tools to add on as we go. Perhaps you’ve already done that but maybe you could do a rerun, thanks.

We have clear plastic stackable file cabinets to store our kits and finished product. The only drawback is that there are weight limits for storage. I also use a steel tool chest to store my tools. One drawer has knives and slivers, one has punches and beveled, and one has stamping and carving tools. The top bay has the most commonly used bench tools.

Wow I'm in the middle of organizing my stuff. Been working out of boxes and just ordered organizing bins got tired of packing and unpacking a box just to do something and can never find what I'm looking for by then I've lost interest in what I was making. Great timing, Chuck. A great big thanks

6:44 -one more thing to do with those patterns - You mark every element x/y - where x is for the number of particular element out of total y - number of all elements. Then You'll know if there's everything you need for the project.

At some point I started making pouches of different sizes for my tools and hung them on a board. Every time I start I new project, I feel like it's christmas again 😀 My tools are made of wood and metal and I work with leather (All natural ressources). Why would I plut these natural tools into the most unnatural containers I can think of. That doesn't sit right with me, you know 😀For me personally, the tool board idea is always a good one. Only problem that I have with it, is that it takes so much space and wood to fit most of my tools on such a board. That's why I chose to organize everything in pouches. Doesn't take as much space and is the most natural that came to my mind.

I see some have colored tape on the ends of them and would like to know how you are organizing them as well. Love the videos, looking forward to all the new projects in '24.

Chuck. I have an idea for a leather element. Adhesive removal. I am a sloppy leather worker. Trying to correct that for years. Regular Barge, Master's contact cement is so easy to remove with crepe and a little carnuba cream. Perfect. Been moving to the water soluable German adhesive. Latex based? I have tried everything to get this stuff off of my grain side. Alcohol, acetone, Saphire Renovator, Neatsfoot oil, leather balm. Nothing works. Help please. I cannot be the only sloppy leather worker in your audience (no insult intended) One thing has a chance of being a preventative. Coat the grain with leather balm (Smiths) to create a barrier.

Unrelated to organizing, but when I apply sheen on my strap after it's been dyed it has a tendency to flake off in some areas. What am I doing wrong? Can someone help me?
