Domestic abuse is one of the worst aspects of human interaction. Somehow, the anti-gun community supports punishing millions of Canadians for the despicable acts of some. Here are some facts to think about.
Here are some statements attempting to link domestic abuse to every gun owner in Canada (13:25) also (47:10): • Video
The problem is these people know nothing about gun control and aren't interested in learning about it.

Daily criminal record check:

Page 10
Licensees are checked for eligibility on an ongoing basis in different ways;
1. As soon as a new violent incident is logged in FIP the system automatically searches existing licence holders in the CFRS for a match and alters the cFO of this development. This could result in a licence being revoked.
2. Court records of relevance to section 5 of the Firearms act (i.e. prohibition orders) are manually fed into CFRS on a daily basis by CFO staff. This information is not only used to flag existing licence holders, but it also serves as another primary eligibility check on new applicants coming into the systems
3. Also, the CFRS maintains other key information used in the ongoing eligibility screening process such as firearms events and spousal notifications tables.
Page 16
On a daily basis, the new FIP entries in the CPIC are compared to information on persons listed in the firearms licence files in the CFRS, including applicants. If there is no match, then nothing happens. If a person in a FIP entry in CPIC later applies for a firearms licence, the FIB entry will be found during the initial licence screening process. If there is a match, CFRS will send a message to the Chief firearms officer of the province or territory in which the incident concerning the licence or applicant too place, indicating there is now a police file that may affect continued eligibility for a firearms licence.

So Rod, uh, when are you running for public office? I'm not talking local stuff, I'm talking national. You have to let the country share your honest, no b.s, humorous approach to EDUCATING people about reality. I'm not talking only about gun control policy, but other issues. I understand that gun control is close to our hearts, but there is a certain way about you that can "sell" ice to an Inuit. Anyway, this was a great video. Keep up the great work. And remember you have my "vote" and support, lol.

The only reason they didn't put the old guy in a wheelchair found with the gun (lin Henshaw) in prison was because it would have cost to much money to keep him incarcerated, period. He was in poor health he probally would have died in prison so all that would have been expensive for the government. Its not like they were being nice because he was old. I'm a South Carolina retired correctional officer and I saw it all the time. When an inmate got terminally ill they would release him to his family to save money. In the US I've seen inmates in jail for murder doing life sentences get paroled because they had kidney failure and had to go on dialysis and it was costing the state too much money to treat them. Crazy right.

From a stats point of view, any sample size with fewer than 20 data points cannot have any relevant conclusions drawn. As you pointed out when stats are given in percentages, one has to ask the sample size for the data. I agree that the Canadian Guns laws are really stupid and quite ambiguous. So it is no wonder there are so many unintended consequences that get reported on.

Love your channel I'm in Hamilton which is about 40 min from Toronto they have a election coming up in October for a new mayor and there's a candidate Olivia Chow(the late Jack Layton wife) is running and her goal is to ban handguns in Toronto...funny I know but her numbers are up because of it. Actually they're not stupid, they just emotional peoples who cant make up their minds. Most of those anti gun peoples are brainwashed by media and media will do anything to sell airtime to it's sponsors or to sell their papers.Media peoples don't care about anything but "make the news" "the scoop" is there isn't one they'll make up one. They mostly use emotional stuff to do that and who are the anti gun peoples? Emotionally influenced peoples and believe me the media knows. Bottom lne, i blame the media for all the BS being spread about guns.

The only fact that matters to politicians is that there are votes in gun control. There are votes in looking tough on crime - even when you're making things worse. And there are votes there because most people (non gun owners especially) don't have the info and don't ask questions. Information like this is CRITICAL to get out and disseminate - so thanks for this video. I'm going to forward it to lots of people.

@Civil Advantage. In Canada if your guns are properly stored and someone breaks into your home can you use a firearm to defend yourself or your family without going to jail? Say for example a guy is heading toward you in an aggressive manner and a physical confrontation is imminent. Self defense in the home looks to be another grey area.

The reason why the Tories won the election in 2006 was because all of the men in Canada...without even holding a meeting at the Men's Club in Stepford Conneticutt...just by spontaneous concensus....they all beat the crap out of their wives and forced them to vote Tory at gun point..... Now if anyone is a little outraged that I would have the gall and the temerity to say such a thing....well now you know why I was outraged by what the Liberal Party had the gall and the temerity to say in their Pink Book....and why I voted Tory.

Question, playing "Devil's Advocate" here (I'm a Canadian gun owner): How do you explain the negatives of 'gun-control' in Canada to someone who compares the situation in the USA (where gun-control is comparatively lax, and gun-related crimes are exponentially higher) versus Canada, where our current 'gun-control' laws appear (again, this is just relative to the US, I realize there are places in EU that make us look like the Wild West) to be very effective in limiting gun-related crimes?
@civiladvantage
@civiladvantage 10 жыл бұрын
1. There are also EU counties with lower gun deaths and far higher rates or ownership. See Switzerland. There is a cultural/economic aspect that is far more causative than number of guns or specific laws against them. 2. most people use the USA as an example of why gun control is needed. Such a bad argument. Problem is, no one wants to take a few minutes to analyse why their numbers are too high because it destroys the narrative to support gun control. In the US, 80% of the gun related deaths are gang related. The FBI has stated that they have over 1,000,000 gang members operating in 33,000 known gangs. If you remove these shootings and recalculate per 100,000 persons, you'd find their numbers are similar to ours. Spend some time checking this out. It's the most comprehensive crime report in the world. www.fbi.gov/about-us/cjis/ucr/crime-in-the-u.s/2012/crime-in-the-u.s.-2012 Most people will turn off their brains when they are confronted by facts that completely destroy what our news and our governments want us to believe. They can't take that level of ideological conflict because we've all grown up thinking that neither of these institutions would lie to us. Honestly, for a system that wants to continue to expand and increase it's power and influence, why in the world would they want people to be strong, informed and able to defend themselves. ALL the facts are out there and available. The information even comes from the governments themselves. Tell these people that they need to sit down in a quiet room and think about this stuff for a while.
@GioGuitarDude
@GioGuitarDude 9 жыл бұрын
THANK YOU!!! People always blaim the guns in the US but fail to see the big picture. If 80-85 percent of gun related crime is directly gang related, and gangs do what they do because of the profitable drugs that come across the Mexico border, then we realize that ultimately the war on drugs is the main problem. Without access to illegal drugs, the gang activity stops, addicted criminals snap out of it and become contributing citizens again and most of all the gun-related violence drops like a rock.

Nicely said Rod, However that rounded up 1% stat.. you missed one very important aspect of this that is one those like cukier love to try to twist by omission What % of that % are the legal firearms vs the illegal ones? It's the same thing as say murders involving a firearm in Toronto etc.. over 90% of them (minimum) are with an illegal firearm vs the very very rare case of such with a legal one. So assuming that even for sake of argument (since I do not have stats on this and knowing the rcmp's usual stupidity I bet they would claim not to track such) say 50% of them are illegal. (being overly generous to cukier's BS) That would be with a rounded up 1% then less than 0.5% of such incidents as you listed would be with a legal firearm.. and that is not even breaking down long vs handgun etc. Simple fact is a knife is the most common weapon used other than fists etc Oh and remember FBI stats show that more people are injured/killed by hammers than firearms.

Hey Rod, awesome video! I have been given a quote to chew on which boggles my mind. I have not been given a source for the supposed statistic. So... Here it is. "Those who own firearms are 10 times more likely to engage in lethal intimate partner violence compared to those who do not". When I heard this drivel I was absolutely shocked. I can't tell you the source of the quote on a public forum because my income could be affected in a negative way.

How on earth could that information be obtained or quantified? Besides, what, our total goes from 18 per year to 1.8? And we take away all the legal guns in Canada and search every home to ensure no illegal guns are in existence??? What planet are these people from.

Civil Advantage I usually just quote this from the abstract and provide a link: "Firearms are present in a relatively small proportion of all police-reported violent crime in reporting provinces and territories. Excluding Quebec, police reported approximately 5,600 victims of violent crime where a firearm was present in 2012, a rate of 21 victims for every 100,000 population (Table 1A). In comparison, the rate of victims of non-firearm-related violent crime was about 49 times higher, at 1,033 victims per 100,000 population. Firearm-related violent crime accounted for 2% of all victims of violent crime in 2012, a proportion that has remained stable over the past four years. For the large majority (81%) of victims of violent crime, there was no weapon present during the commission of the offence.1 A weapon other than a firearm, such as a knife or blunt instrument, was present in 17% of violent offences. Although violent crime is generally decreasing, the rate of firearm-related violent crime is decreasing at a faster pace than violent crime that does not involve firearms. There were about 1,800 fewer victims of firearm-related violent crime in 2012 than there were in 2009, resulting in a 27% decrease in the rate of firearm-related violent crime (Chart 1).2 Since 2009, the rate of violent offences involving other weapons has decreased 9%, while the rate of offences involving the use of physical force, threat, or no weapon has decreased 14%."

The problem with your lecture Rod is that you are trying to convey the use of common sense and truthful facts in your lectures. It is far easier to take away the rights and freedoms of honest law abiding citizens than to dissuade the inert evil in a criminal from being acted on. Advisory and political groups need to have the easy victories in order to legitimize their movement; even if it means they need deceive the innocent and unknowing public. Aside from the love of being a hunter and a sportsman, I am now acquiring my restricted PAL to become a positive statistic and support a legitimate Canadian tradition and pastime.

This might be what Rod was thinking of here: web.archive.org/web/20131020123329/guncontrol.ca/category/gendered-gun-violence/ Reducing Domestic Homicide While there has been considerable focus on the problems of illegal guns, most women killed with guns are killed with legally owned guns, particularly rifles and shotguns. On average, one in three women killed by their husbands are shot, and most (88%) of them with legally owned rifles and shotguns. Family Violence in Rural Communities A study done in the provinces of New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island of family violence and firearms in rural communities found that 66% of the women who indicated there were firearms in their home said knowing about the firearms made them more fearful for their safety and well-being.
