They don't put a TC next to the monastery with relics in it so the opponent doesn't find the monastery as easily x D this is the most pessimistic player I've ever seen, they assume Everything that can go wrong, Will go wrong, & have a plan in place to cope already

this game was almost more entertaining than the hidden cup finals :D in a very different way, though. As a low-elo-player myself, I really appreciate watching this kind of gameplay.

I think the idea is "take all the resources before they're contested, survive your opponents' initial attack and burn through their units, then when they finally go expansionist, there's nothing to expand into and I can spam out castles and gold intensive units."

I come back to this video every couple months. It's always incredible, but it finally hit me tonight what Ace's style reminds me of. What blue must have been feeling. You know that feeling you get when you play against AI, where you're just constantly one-upping them and countering their every move. You're so outpacing the computer player that you're just building stuff in their base and clowning on them. That's what Ace's style is. He was just playing with blue, like blue was just a computer opponent.

I admit having the same thought of sneaking out to take the exposed resources early in other RTS games. Tbf, it does probably work a bit vs lower competition levels. Those opponent-levels are not as good at scouting, so there is a good chance they won’t correctly guess which sector of the map has your exposed gatherers to find it, or at least not before you’ve taken most of the resource. But now that auto-scout is a thing, it’s less likely to work.
