An artist of inner creativity like no other is Bill Evans. One that loves jazz can not stop listening to the piano notes that only have his special touch. ❤ He lives on.

I love Bill but it is a nostalgic love because his is dead. On the other hand his music will forever be alive. In this he has become one of the immortals. Stars may come and pass, as in this picture, but he will always remain the same. Always smoking his cigarette.

I've often wondered what the great classical improvisors like Mozart or Beethoven would have thought if they had heard Bill Evans...?

He had not a gram of ego or competitiveness he played for the sake of the music and always strove to make his music "sing" - He certainly achieved that. He once said "I think Jazz music is the purest tradition this country (USA) has ever had and it has made music for its own sake and never bent strictly to commercial considerations - that's why I am proud to have been a part of it". What a tribute! What a man!

What recording or LP was this taken from? That is to say where and when was it recorded - and is it really Bill playing or a tribute played by someone playing a transcription such as the brilliant maunuscripts done by Bob Hinz?
@tipula
@tipula Жыл бұрын
These recordings are selections from Bill Evans' live performances. Some from Village Vanguard in 61, some from Balboa Jazz Club. It's complicated, but you need to look into it thoroughly. His live performances in Town Hall and Switzerland are also available. Kind regards

@@tipula Thank you Hal well this proves my suspicion was correct - not only was On a Clear Day verbatim the same as his later recording on Alone album (the one that got a Grammy Award) but also Here's that rainy Day also was identical including the "improvisation" which he'd written and learned. Fair enough because some things he did were far too complicated to get perfect "on the fly" extemporizing so it was like he composed it including the improvised part like a solo - in effect it was like a written classical piece. Still pure genius as I learned both Here's that rainy day and A time for love from the Bob Hinz transcription and by heck was that difficult! It took me months to play it without it falling over!
