This dnd story was one I'd always wanted to see as an animated film, having read the book as a child and now as an adult I'm able to try and make it come to life in animated form.
This short animated film shows a scene from the book 'Homeland' by R A Salvatore, where a young Drizzt is about to leave his father’s training and protection.
Drizzt Do'Urden is one of the heroes of the Dungeons and Dragons world. Copyright Wizards of the Coast.
This was an fan project, not officially endorsed by Wizards of the Coast.
Great thanks and appreciation to Steven Kelly for doing such a great musical score and general audio. And thank you also to Kieran Flitton and Phillip Sacramento for the amazing voice acting. You guys elevate this!

A challenge to accept this will be easy to go from here however the animation needs more speed you have to consider how fast Drow are in the physical world that we live in. Wrap your mind around that one.

My older sister handed me "The Crystal Shard" in 1993 (highschool), I was into sports not reading but I read it and well became a fan for life. She is no longer here she passed away in 2020 but she would of loved this.

Right the misunderstanding between Drizzt and his father was heartbreaking, what was worse as the reader we get insight into their thoughts and positions and know they are of the same mindset but assume the other is like all other drow brainwashed, indoctrinated, and evil. Drizzt Detest his father thinking him to be evil and Zak thinks he's failed his son and that he had became just another ruthless evil Drow, all because he didn't know Drizzt didn't really kill the little Elf girl during the surface raid. He believed like everyone else that Drizzt brutally slaughtered her and her mother, 😢

Right?!?! It literally had me shaking and all my hairs standing on end. I've read the "Homeland" atleast 10 times and this video portrayed that scene perfectly in every way.

Soooo much better. God it would be amazing if you could tell the adventures through this kind of animation. It would be so amazing with voice acting. Ive been wondering why this isn’t a film yet but this seems like a perfect way to tell the tale of Drizzt and get it the recognition it deserves.

It's a damn shame because elves and dark elves commonly have Anglo-Saxon facial features. So essentially dark elves would be white actors played in blackface, and people won't be mature enough to deal with it.

Especially in these times and BS excuses for some cancel culture, etc. Sometimes an evil dark skinned elf is just that, and not a representation of anything. And D&D drow are probably inspired by Dark elves in Norse Mythology and have no human "racial" connotations. You know what i mean...

I read this book when it first came out. I read “The Chrystal Shard” when it first came out and awaited every R A Salvatore Book about Drizzt since. I remember this part where Zaknafein was worried about Drizzt becoming and turning into every other Drow he knew. Drizzt would prove him wrong. Such a good book and series. You did very well on the animation. Wonderful job!

I was in middle school when a friend handed me The Crystal Shard, this was probably 1988. It was all over from there. I loved all the characters that Salvatore created throughout the Legacy of Drizzt. This was a real treat to watch, well done! Thank you!

Wow. I remember reading this book in like the 6th grade. It's so surreal seeing an animation that parallels what my imagination had conjured up so exactly. That's a testament to both Salvatore's skill as a writer and yours as an animator. Thank you for the nostalgia trip.

This is so incredible! I could only imagine how awesome a Drizzt animation would be when I read the books back in high school! The quality of the animation is so amazing for how long of a scene this is too, I'm so shocked that one person did all that work!!

Better voice acting, and you still captured the grief Zaknifien felt, he never wanted his son to go the academy where dark elves become Drow. Zaknifien is great character and amazing father, in a society of evil, he raised his son to be one of the most honourable and greatest heroes of the forgotten realms.

Man, you get this on Kickstarter and I'll bet you raise a lot of money. Pretty much what the Critical Role cast did with their gaming group, Vox Machina, that's now a series on Amazon Prime. And with Drizzt? No brainer. Excellent job by the way.

I too, have waited for this to be realized in visual form. I, as all of you fans, know that the story is just as rich and complex as JR Tolkien's books. The animated version could bear a follow-on live action. I know that the Forgotten Realms could be just as popular.... I anxiously await the follow-on to this beginning

God this is so fucking incredible, its an amazing representation of that scene in the books and I love to see the scene where Drizzt saves the young elf girl from slaughter in the surface raid and the repercussions of that. You animating a Drider would be insane 🕷🕷🕷🕷🕷

I really enjoyed this as a digital media student (which includes some 2d animation study) this was very impressive as a fan of drizzt for some years now I loved this scene you have a Knack for facial expression and conveying emotions far better then I and your art work is awesome I have shared this with another fan and he agrees this was epic... kuddos!

I just wanted to add that you captured the essence of Zak and Drizzt, that's a hard thing to do for any animator or voice actor, you absolutely nailed it you must be a true student of the stories. "You are a dancer!" Brilliant emphasis!! Imagine if you had 1/100 of the budget that Amazon gave rings of power, this proves the true creative minds are being muted.
