If you do start,start on Trails in the Sky FC.That’s the beginning of the series and events/Characters are still mentioned/appear to this day.While first games are kind of there own things,It’s normally the sequels that brings other characters from the older games

Really hope that no matter where you start Trails that you enjoy it, the series can definitely be daunting at first but it’s a series I hope more people enjoy.

I got into The Legend of Heroes games after playing Persona 4 Golden. I’m glad I started with Trails of Cold Steel. I beaten Trails through Daybreak this morning.

If you do decide to start the series the best place to start is legit at the beginning. Trails in the Sky First Chapter is part of the Liberl arc and the first arc of the entire series. Then you have the 2 Crossbell games, Zero and Azure. Then you get into the Cold Steel arc which is technically 5 games. Trails into Reverie is part of it too. Then you have the new arc that is only one game in the west right now in Trails through Daybreak I will admit it's a lot to get into but these are some of the best games with world building and great characters. So it's worth it to me

Awesome! Another potential Trails fan :D lol awesome hair too btw. So this is my bare bones tl:dr of where to start (by no means definitive, start where you’d like except midway through an arc like sky 2, then you’re just a monster). If you have time and want max immersion into the world, start with sky 1-3. Sky, zero/azure and cold steel all encompass 1 massive looming story. Sky 1-3, zero/azure and cold steel 1-2 focus on their respective stories and characters alongside the overarching narrative. Cold steel 3 and 4 pushes the entire narrative forward. Reverie is a love letter to the series and finishes off the story proper. Daybreak takes place a few years after that story and starts a brand new story. A little bit of a longer explanation is yes you CAN start really wherever you want (except reverie, massive spoilers obviously), but all of the games are interwoven through story and characters, where you’ll here references to what happened in other games or you will straight up have a character from another game show up. So by the time cold steel 3 and 4 come around, because they essentially push the entire narrative forward, Falcom is going to be throwing characters and names and organizations at you rapid style and it can become a bit overwhelming all at once where as if you’ve played the other games beforehand it’ll be more like “oh so and so is here” or “oh I remember that from so and so” instead of “wtf they just named 4 new characters and 2 new events all in the last 30 minutes” and it honestly can make the story feel a bit of a clusterfuck. But again time and interest permitting, you can really start anywhere and go back to play the old games to get a deeper understanding of certain groups or characters just know that the gameplay from like Daybreak and Sky 1 are VASTLY different and it can always be hard to go backwards in time rather than forwards. The definition of what Trails is, for me, is the segment at 15:55 of your video. It's not the pretty lady who defines trails, it's the two people who are walking with her and who pass her on her left and right as she turns around and looks at the camera. The thing trails has that makes it unique is that I don't need to see those two character's faces, or even see their bodies in good light. I know exactly who they both are. That's what Marvel comics used to do, that was one of the key techniques that built the house of ideas. Trails is the only thing that still does that.

I started with cs1 i loved it so much i looked for other similar games and found a whole series and played everything except the sky games due to it being hard to find outside of pc. No matter where you start you'll be hooked

Trails is an amazing series... I only got into it in late 2022, but have been burning through the games since then. Most people will tell you that Trails in the Sky FC is where you should start... if I had started there, I probably wouldn't have played it. I would recommend starting with Trails of Cold Steel or even Trails through Daybreak just to get a feel for the game. You'll realize you're missing out on a ton of lore and character and world building and then if you're anything like me, will go back and start at the beginning and play Sky FC.

I remember getting the PS3 Lionheart Edition of Trails of Cold Steel 1 back in the day for a mere $50 brand new on release and being incredibly impressed with how much they included. XSEED (the localization team at the time) included a really nice box that folded open like a book, a high quality 141 page art book, a cool pin, and the game itself of course. And the game came with an instruction manual and a reverse cover. Keep in mind, they were selling the Standard Edition of the game for $40, so it was only $10 more for what was essentially a collector's edition of the game. And I think the PS Vita versions of the Standard/Lionheart Editions were actually cheaper, but I don't remember how much cheaper (maybe $10 less for each?). Needless to say, it was really awesome, lol. Anyways... if you want to start here, then I say do it. While going back to play Trails in the Sky First Chapter and working your way up through the series is definitely the best way to play them (and is what I would recommend for anyone who is willing to put in the time and effort), it isn't really required. It just makes an already awesome experience even better, as all of the Trails games are great, and seeing how things unfold in release order is really awesome. But again, it's not absolutely necessary. That's just how I feel though. I know that some people will insist that you start with Sky FC no matter what. XD

i just finished the sky and crossbell arcs and am on cold steel 1 now and the worldbuilding and story telling in these games are insanely rare, plus the amount of characters that feel so in depth, you should def try it if you have the time (your backlog might be able to take this)

There are a plenty of videos about telling you where to start or what order to play them in, but just for some easy notes as far as the game lore goes, the series has a couple of arcs/regions of the world for you to pick from as good starting points. Trails from Zero and Trails to Azure (Crossbell Arc), Trails of Cold Steel I-IV (Erebonian Arc), Trails in the Sky/2nd/3rd/FC (Liberl Arc), Trails from Reverie (Conclusion of all arcs thus far), and now the newest release of Trails Through Daybreak is the start of the Calvard region arc. You can honestly start anywhere from these games besides Reverie, but I personally started with the Cold Steel series, but feel free to start anywhere with this game series I guess.

I want to preface my comment by saying the best place to start is without a doubt Sky FC. With that being said I think the first game in a new arc is a good place to start because let's face it not everyone has time, or patience to go through 10+ story heavy games. I myself started with Cold Steel 1, went on to play 2, 3 and then went back to the Sky and Crossbell games because the series hit that much for me. Whatever you decide to do I hope the series is one you'll enjoy.

You need to start of the beginning of your gonna into the series

So if you want to start the Trails series, I'm going to give you a bit of a different type of opinion. Here's four games that serve as a starting point in the game: Trails in the Sky FC Trails from Zero Trails of Cold Steel Trails through Daybreak Ideally you would want to start from Trails in the Sky since it is the very start of the story of the series and you'll get introduced to all the lore and terminology and whatnot as needed, but I will say it being the first game from 20 years ago does mean it is a bit dated, and it's slow pacing might not resonate with you, especially when you still don't know how good the payoff is going to be. Lots of people in the West started with Cold Steel just fine. If you're a fan of Persona, you'll see similarities that'll help you ease into things. I personally think Zero is a great blend between more up to date gameplay, a well paced story, and a great core cast of characters but there are elements of its story that won't have much meaning to you without first playing the Sky trilogy. And then finally Daybreak being the newest entry means you have the most up to date mechanics, graphics, a more mature story to it, and is intended as an entry point so if you want to just play the shiny new game, go for it! As long as you don't start somewhere in the middle of a story arc like Trails to Azure (the sequel to Zero), Sky SC, Cold Steel 2/3/4, etc. then you're good! The most important part is to just start somewhere and you can always go back to play the other games. The series is going to be a long term investment, but brother when it has you hooked, you are going to be fed so well and be so glad you stuck with it. It's an experience like no other 🙏
