Yeah... it looks like this Phosphoru strat takes advantage of the opponent making mangonels to defend the rams. Gotta go straight knights and monks. And even still. I feel like Cello could have walled in a mangonel just beside his tc and that would have worked too. With his better eco, he could have even spared 1-2 vils inside with the mangonel as dedicated repairers. Always enjoy the content T90.

I really think that walling in ranged stuff is super underutilized. Mangonels, Trebs or Monks may be sooo much harder to kill

If he walls a mangonel phosphoru will just make his own mangonel and easily kill it since it won't be able to move. I think his only hope is to make just enough eco for constant knight production then stop making vills like t90 says.

They played a lot and they're great games. Now there's a ELO gap as red started streaming and lost some points while having fun with the stream so it's 2k vs 2k2 and might not meet that often.

25:00 Would it be worth it too just ram down those houses on the woodline? Considering how fast the Celt ram attacks, they would go down super fast and the villagers would probably get killed too Edit: Did some math. With three rams those six houses would go down in ~50 sec. Even less in realtime. That would have allowed to kill the whole woodline AND costed Chelu half their pop space

Impressive from both players, btw if you notice Phosphorus, who is sometimes described by T90 as slower player who wins by innovative strategies has actually higher APM than his opponent.

"We've seen this game a thousand times" yeah, cus it's on Arabia :^) I still love seeing Phosphoru do his thing. He's very keen on mechanics and knows how to spin things in his favour by going all in on them. He's a type of player that AOE2 surprisingly doesn't see often.

i would think that (unless this version is different from the hd? one that i played) mamlukes would hard counter this. melee attack at 2 range which means you can 1 shot the rams without becoming vulnerable to woads popping out surrounding your cav

T90, why does no one go full archers against Phosphoru? I believe there are two key moments for it, one would be early feudal going double range, possibly forward so they get the correct timing on his gold and stone (and even woodline) before the castle goes up, which he never defends besides with small walls, the other is when he goes for a forward castle like in this game, his whole eco was exposed and 4 crossbows would have set him back to 0 villagers. The only addition necessary would be in castle age, where you would need a forward siege workshop yourself, either to take down the castle which is the only defense he has, or to kill his market/tc which are usually unprotected

In the second match, Chelo should have tried harder to expand elsewhere and just make a few scouts to kill Phospohoru's Villagers.

Devs need to hard nerf the market. Make prices rise 2x as fast, but cap the max prices so it doesn't hurt late game.

as a low elo, when you know someone stops vill production, when is the optimal time you also stop just so you can have a chance against this play? or is the general meta to continue and hopefully delay long enough to out macro and win a bit later on?

as low elo, you shouldn't stop. thats a more advanced technique, because there is no optimal time. its all a trade off.

I dont know enough about AoE to know if this would be too slow but could Cello tried to have 1-2 vills move out to setup a far TC to rebuild while he was getting sieged? The issues phophorus strat produce for him is the increasingly worse eco position and lack of upgrades, from cellos perspective they can get quite a few eco upgrades done on the inital base of 1 or 2 TC and then fight against phos with slightly fewer vills and maybe less food for the faraway TC to make vills there but the upside is that no matter what you will have eco to take those annoying fights. Eventually his units would outperform phos if the fight just kept going even with just a small amount of eco right?

lts an idea. but I think like T90 said, if he just made more Knights, because of the rams the monks aren't as effective. he already has double the eco, just make more army to fight the woad raiders and they can also fight the rams.

Ive been a casual viewer for the past year or so, i enjoy these "legend of xxxx" style videos a lot, partly due to the shorter duration. Community's games I think are always very entertaining but due to the format most of them are longer than an hour which is not appealing to watch. My suggestion would be to limit population for each player and depending on your elo, your population cap varies. So higher elo player have an incentive to cooperate with lower elo player because they're population cap is higher and they can have more eco or more army, but the higher elo player can focus more on micro and do more diplo. I hope the suggestions sounds interesting and I am open to hear how this idea can be improved.

Monk conversion progress should not reset (on the same unit type) when it is garrisoned. So once it pops out again it should continue.

Kinda sick of monks, to be honest. The amount of micro you dont need to do with monks is ridiculous. Set them up put units inbetween if the middle units hold for 5 seconds you win if not you lose. Honestly it's like a gamble that takes very low skill to perform.

Woads are a poor choice. Longswords would be much better. Or should I say longswords with supplies. You are looking at 45 food and 20 gold for longsword and 65 food and 25 gold for woad. 90 vs 65 resources or about 40% more longswords. The attack difference is +2 for woads but +1 melee for longswords. Woads have +10 hp. But we all know from SoTL, Lancasters law- more units will win fights. MAA are a great unit to use in Feudal as the longer Feudal lasts the more wood Celts gain. They can run away from any ranged units and kill scouts.' Phosperu is just accustomed to using unique units.

Phosphoru needs a castle to protect his units anyway. He would need 2-3 Barracks to reach the production numbers of the castle. He would need to research supplies. I'm not sure Supplies pay itself back over that game time. He only made 30-40 woads. He would also need to research MAA and Longswords. All of those barracks techs would really harm his timings Longswords aren't as fast so they can kite and avoid contact. Not sure you thought that through.

@@micahbonewell5994 For someone who says they are unaware of how long a tech takes to pay back and then say a it would mess up timing is illogical. Then to insult me by saying I did not think it through, when you didn;t is quite rude. Supplies, MAA and longswords are 505 resources. Adding in a second barracks makes the cost equal to a castle. So timing is not an issue except. You have MAA to protect villagers moving forward. The upgrades can be researched while advancing to castle giving a faster attack. Barracks will be up much faster than the castle. You also have the ability to make pikemen against strong knight civs. I did not see the greater speed being a huge factor. In contrast you add flexibility with pikemen, 40% more units and no lost timing. You can add a castle latter but the bottom line is woads are not a great unit unless you are against meso.

@alandavid823 For Bulgarians, I would look to try to strike with free MAA and scouts with discounted forging. The MAA are to kill villagers and destroy military buildings. Scouts are to chase down archers and skirts. You don't want to extend Feudal too much as there are no eco bonuses. If you do enough damage and can reach a castle first, stirrups knights can be spammed for a quick win. For Japanese discounted eco buildings allow you to get an early attack in Feudal, but you are vulnerable to mirroring archers. A tower rush will help you tech into yazama. Likely if you are going heavy on attack expect a counter attack rather than defense. CA at home are great again knights and crossbows. Both are better than Woads.

I used to say phosphoru is single handedly creating a new meta for aoe2. But he's not. Phosphoru is his own meta incarnated into this beast of a player.
