I remember at LAN parties with my buddies in like 2006 I'd build one dock on Mediterranean and periodically just go and click on it a bunch of times so from the next room by buddy would just be hearing the dock sound rattling off like I was deploying some huge navy just to make him nervous about his coastline ;-)

I like to believe that MSG In my mouth is never lying... he always actually wanted to pick magyars but accidently clicks milay, he's just done it so much that he is good with mily now :P

I should try imitating him (calling myself like that, picking malay, misspelling magyard, chat behaviour, etc.) and then archer rush.

The reason he says "I wanted magyars" is because he doesn't want people to start thinking "why did he take malay in a map without water?". He wants to eliminate the possibility of them anticipating some kind of crazy strategy, and wants them to think that only mainstream strategies are coming. It's smart.

I had met this guy before in Arena, he said GG in the very beginning but keep playing. Then 20 Elepehanto rush in Castle age. Thanks to the Monks I rush for relics and Arena stone walls, all the elephants are converted.

I am a way lower ELO player than MSG in my mouth, and this is EXACTLY the same strategy I go for (except for the chat part). Love to see a higher ranked player using the same strat I came up with. Keep pumping those tanky boys!

A couple of months ago (so cannot find replay and send it to you:( ) I played a hilarious game as Celts against Malay. He went all-in elephants as on the video (without any chat though), and I went all-in pike-siege. The map was symmetric, and we picked different sides, so both bases were destroyed by 25 minutes of the game, and we both had only a dozen of wandering homeless vils. In the end I won cause I found and destroyed two his new tc-s, while he found only one of mine+original, so I was able to reboom enough to afford two barracks non-stop pikes.

I’m 950 elo and I’ve had this happen to me in hideout, they must preferred map hideout because I had Arabia as mine. Anyways due to the slower age times at my elo he attacked at around 25 minutes with 25ish elephants and destroyed me

When I saw he was malay I immediatly thought "please don't show the 20 elephants in 20 minutes build from humzacrumza so I can still wreck noobs"

Some things about the message in the thumbnail makes it really funny for some reason. The "oh man" giving an idea of the tone of the message, the lack of proper capitalization and punctuation, and the cherry on top, the misspelling of Magyars. Comedy gold.

He's doing the "20 elephants by 20 minute" build order for Malay, it specifically says to hide your stables so the enemy can't prepare until it's too late.

This Elephant rush is super awkward to fight when caught off guard. Wasn't a lier like this guy but Elephant rush from Khmer kicked my butt

Its okay, he is not being honest, but remember the "Advanced to x age?"-thing... and we all find that funny and a legit strag. So I think its okay. Its not cheating, its just trying to push the other player psychologically and that's part of the game. :)

All's fair in AOE2. Everyone can appreciate someone who's put a lot of effort into something novel. It doesn't feel bad because it's kind of like, "oh wow, I didn't know it worked that way". There's always something new to discover within its quirky inner workings. AOE is this odd artifact that seems to always yield new little insights, however long you keep looking. Even the Blue Coffee chat diplo is wonderful because it's actually part of his BUILD! Honestly it feels less bad than being silently hammered in other games where they remove communication because people can't be civil. I think it's a fantastic reflection of a fantastic community. It's a whole boatload of well humored people meming on each other endlessly. Great fun, 11/10.

Omg this is exactly what I am doing, I put way more scorpions though. Elephants are hands down the coolest unit ever, and Khmer have lots of variaety, it sucks that on high elo games due to the meta, nobody plays them. I love low elos because you can actually have some fun with elephants.

Hey man, I like how this guy rolls. I think it's great that people do wacky builds and weird chat shenanigans in this game. There's no right or wrong way to play, just have fun. I think stuff like this makes the community more interesting and can even advance the game. I just hope people aren't too salty if they get bamboozled because honestly it's hilarious.

back when i played starcraft 2 i named myself "Honest" and intentionally picked the default avatar, proceeding to make the cheesiest builds. believe me this tactic worked and had an effect on people, their rage always referenced my game tag name. to me this kind of tactics make the game more interesting, it adds an additional dimension to innovate in. it is one of the reasons i like the politics in ffa's still there is always a line to be crossed, and i think stuff like: "i have a psychopath in my house, if i lose this game he will kill my children" is beyond the line of civil society

ive seen this strat and even pull it of many times before, the diference is that i learned it from vinchester (Hideout aoelympics vs me), where he goes KHMER instead of MALAY, GOES 19pop up, does some eco and clicks to castle age, sends a foward vill to build stables and a siege workshop, so you get elepants and rams (1tc) and if you dont see i coming, you are screwed. Its a nice strat.

I played him a few months ago. He didn’t say anything. I wasn’t sure what Malay do on hideout, but I remembered “Malay need to delay.” So, I went full knights one tc with tuetons and he killed around 10 knights and then barely took out my tc and then took my two panic tcs for the win.

As a Goth regular - that doesn't really scare me. I'll spam pikes - I usually build 5 or so spears early in feudal, for possible incoming scout rushes, or knight rushes in castle. But yes - not ethical at all.

honestly, don't really think this is too unethical. sure he's lying, but the lies don't affect any meaningful part of the game. whether or not you let your guard down after hearing him say that is entirely up to you. you can say it's psychological warfare in a certain way, which doesn't hurt when being used in an rts right? what would make it unethical is if he was purposefully lowering his elo and using this strat on players who are weaker than him by giving them a false sense of security. that would be smurfing and it wouldn't be okay at all. but as long as the 2 players are equal in skill, fast castle into full elephant production is a legit strat that you should be able to defend from at 1300-1500 elo.

Damn the first guy actually called gg I would have just quit.
