A playthrough of Konami's 1992 action-adventure game for the Super Nintendo, The Legend of the Mystical Ninja.
The Legend of the Mystical Ninja was Konami's third US release for the 16-bit SNES, and though it didn't sell nearly as well as Gradius III and Super Castlevania IV, it was arguably just as good a game. It was also the first English-language release in the Ganbare Goemon series, a line of games revolving around Ishikawa Goemon, a Japanese Robin Hood-like figure from the late sixteenth century.
In this adventure, Goemon (Kid Ying in the English version) travels across Japan, helping out people in need as he searches for the kidnapped Princess Yuki. There are nine "warlock zones" to battle through, each split into two parts - in the town segments, Goemon visits the locals, gathering clues and supplies for his mission, and the "dangerous territory" sections are side-scrolling platformer stages that are each capped off with major boss battle. The game can be played alone or in 2P simultaneous co-op mode, with player two controlling the cross dressing goof-off Dr. Yang (Ebisumaru).
The game carries all the typical qualities of a top-notch Konami production. The characters and backdrops are beautifully illustrated; the soundtrack, loaded with traditional Japanese instruments, is catchy and memorable; and the controls and pitch-perfect difficulty level make it a real joy to play, as does its strange sense of humor. And if you step into the video arcade (anachronisms be damned!), you even get to play a 16-bit remake of the first stage from Gradius!
The Legend of the Mystical Ninja was one of my favorite games for the Super Nintendo, and it's one that I still find my way back to often. No matter how many times I play through it, it's so damned fun that I never get tired of it. It's right up there in terms of quality with Konami's biggest hits, so if you loved stuff like Contra III and Turtles in Time but never gave this one a chance, you might want to reconsider. It's fantastic.

When you're at the amusement park, you can play the lottery mini-game with a turbo controller, and you'll win more often than you'll lose. My buddy and I did this with a turbo-controller and a stapler (as a weight to hold down the button), and let the game go for hours. I'm sure it would be even faster with an emulator, because you can easily adjust the gameplay speed. Practically unlimited gold means that you can use throwables instead of your regular weapon. It's not a huge advantage, but it felt like we "got-one-over" on the world.... _and it felt _*_awesome._*

It was like a feast for any gamer, the different genres, mini games, games-within-games...and on top of that, it was just a really good beat em up/platformer with incredible music, lots of fun sprites and items and just lots of love all around. This is honestly the gold standard in gaming for me.

I was never blessed to experience the Goemon series. I always heard of this classic. Simple, fun sidescrolling action, reminds me of River City Ransom, in a way. Plus, Konami's American branch did an amazing job with the box art during this era, with Super Castlevania IV and TMNT Turtles in Time having epic cover illustrations. This one was pretty on-point as well.

most undderated game of all time to the point where it didn't sell that well and we missed out on the sequels. you can get them english translated today which is nice. I think the biggest no-no for international releases of the other games, was a very specific Manji symbol, and how it looked... For most Japanese people, they don't see any problem with it. But for all of America, it is a racist emblem that resembles that of the 4th Ryke.
@mariusamber3237
@mariusamber3237 9 ай бұрын
@@LegoSonic-p2f I think they probably would've just censored them and kept the rest, like in Bionic Commando or other games like that. They probably thought they weren't worth localizing, because the sales were low for the ones that got localized; from what I've read, only the very first Goemon game was a big commercial hit. Maybe they also thought they were "too Japanese" or something. It's all just speculation at this point though, of course.

Some notes about "gambling" here: The game houses charge 100/gambling game, but two can pay off handsomely per go: Lottery: Choose one of four animals, and a letter from A to D. You will get 50 back automatically, but if you correctly predict Letter and Number in the second Lottery, the prize is 200. Predict the correct combination of animal, letter and Number, you get 1000 back. So you either lose 50, win 150 (just first & second Lottery), win 950 (just third & first Lottery) or win 1150 (win all three). Since you can play this again and again before leaving, you can get loads of coins before calling it quits. Concentration: There are eight pairs of cards on the board. Each pair is 20 at the end, with "Omitsu" if you have her pair worth 200. So that's 360 there if you get all the cards. At the game end, you can double your cash if you get the card the game randomly chooses, so you could walk away with 720 for net profit of 620. If you have good memory you can play again and again.
