To give you some D&D context - Pike is a cleric, a warrior priest basically. Clerics are strong healers, but where they excel more than any class is doing one thing - fighting the undead. They specialize in radiant (holy) damage - which all undead creatures are weak against. They literally have an ability called "destroy undead" - which the show showed off when she "landed" and a ring of holy energy wiped out all undead around her. So as overpowered as Pike seemed in the scene - it is not at all far from what a cleric can do to a horde of undead.

I can't tell you how much I enjoy watching you two watching this series. I love that this series is great for people that know CR and the ones that do not.

I’m sure you’ve seen from other comments on the previous videos, Ashley who played pike was in New York filming for the Blindspot spot. That’s why Pike walked away from the party earlier in this series. She was able to Skype in during a few of the episodes and true to the original story this is when she came in to help out the team. She literally did save the day. So for game purposes, Matt had her astral project so that if she wasn’t able to make it the next week he had a reason for her to disappear.

The gem that you are referring to is called residuum. It's just a mineral that has magical properties. ~800+ years ago the Dawn Father fought a devastatingly evil god called the Chained Oblivion and the battle was so intense that the divine energy got infused into the surrounding stone. Game mechanics wise, you can use residuum as a substitute any materials that you need for your spells. That way you don't have to seek out exotic materials. From a story perspective, this is like the pinnacle of all plot convenience. If you are a romantic couple of villains who have a complicated evil scheme that uses exotic forbidden magic, you can't go to your local arts and crafts store and expect them to sell everything you need. How about an independent isolated city state sitting on top of a jackpot reserve of magical duct tape? Better yet. A city state with a royal family so reclusive and unknown that Sovereign Uriel went for 5 years without realizing they were assassinated. He even enlisted a de Rolo to become a defender of Emon without putting two and two together. Whitestone is THAT level of obscure

Although it happened a bit different in the game that Turn Undead from Pike, I think still holds the most kills in a single round in all of Critical Role, 36.

Nah, Delilah was never a person who was mistakenly turned evil, she was legit Always Like That. She got both her and Sylas banished and almost executed in their homeland for necromantic experiments. She is just a bad person.

Im not sure why, but it made me really sad that they didnt react or perhaps didnt catch the "whack it off" joke Scanlan made with Grog. Very solid dick jokes should always be appreciated. Grog: "You want me to whack it off?" Scanlan: "You may have to if I lose it!"

If you go back to the episode where Pike first tries to contact The Everlight at the temple, you might notice a really cool detail…The carved stone wall behind the altar is designed to look just like the beam of light that Pike’s astral projection came down from the heavens on when she arrived in Whitestone. It’s a cool bit of design/foreshadowing. There’s tons of cool little details like this hidden in the show, but that is one that most people definitely miss on their first watchthough. And yeah, Pike is a total badass when dealing with the undead. In D&D, that’s one of your big rewards for playing a cleric. Instead of the usual situation where a cleric is mostly supporting the rest of the party in battle, when there’s undead around, the Cleric becomes insanely powerful.

Ashley (Pike's actress) was away filming and had to Skype in, hence the astral projection. But in game, she didn't actually "power up", she was just badass because she's a cleric and in D&D clerics are inherently super effective against the undead. (And also, she's a monstah! 😁)

With the creepy mask, the dark atmosphere and the very overpowered steampunk looking guns Percy is almost like one of the hunters from Bloodborne.

All the talk about Pike leveling up is ironic because in the game, Pike was actually several levels behind the rest of the party. Because Ashley Johnson was away so much filming in New York, Pike wasn't getting as much XP, so she wasn't leveling up as quickly. She was actually still in NY during this arc, which is why she is "astral projecting" here - in real life she was on via Skype.

I really love the bits of the Briarwoods perspective we get to see in the show. Because of the nature of a DnD game we never got to see these things in the original campaign.

During the Winter solstice it's the opposite, the sun is at it's lowest point, creating the longest night and the shortest day of the year The equinoxes occur at the half way point, when day and night is the same length. In ancient times and "before science", these special days of the year was attributed with strange and magical powers. As an example, where I live, this year the summer solstice occurred the 22nd of June, where the sun rose at 3:51am and set at 10:12pm. giving us a day of 18 hours and 21 minutes, leaving only 5 hours and 40 minutes of "night" (although the sun has set, the angle makes those nighttime hours about as bright as the dawn, sometimes it's very difficult to sleep) this rotation and the relative distance from earth to the sun is what creates the seasons, since the tiny difference in the leaning away or closer to the sun. this is also why regions closer to the equator doesn't notice as big a change as people closer to the poles. So to explain what the green gems are, lots of spells have a cost. For example the spell revify needs a diamond worth 500 gold pieces to be cast. The green gems are residuum, produced by Whitestone. The green. Gems can be used as substitutes to those costly reagents.

I remember watching the live stream during the Briarwood arc and I kept wishing Ashley wasn't off filming Blindspot because of how much they needed the cleric in the group to face the undead.

Clerics, like our girl Pike, is the most effective thing against Undead. That's why she turned the tide of battle to their side. Great reaction, looking forward for more!!

In the original show Pike, played by Ashley Johnson was often away filming a show called Blindspot. On the occasion when she could participate, she would Skype in and Astral Projection was the solution. Occasionally, Matt Mercer the Dungeon Master, or one of the other players would handle Pike's duties when a cleric was an absolute necessity for survival.

Having already seen the stream and these episodes when they dropped great job on putting certain pieces together.
