The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword is a 2011 action-adventure game developed and published by Nintendo for the Wii. A high-definition remaster of the game, The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD, was co-developed by Tantalus Media and released for the Nintendo Switch in July 2021.
Taking the role of series protagonist Link, players navigate the floating island of Skyloft and the land below it, completing quests that advance the story and solving environmental and dungeon-based puzzles. The mechanics and combat, the latter focusing on attacking and blocking with sword and shield, are reliant on the Wii MotionPlus peripheral. A mainline entry in The Legend of Zelda series, Skyward Sword is the first game in the Zelda timeline, and details the origins of the Master Sword, a recurring weapon within the series. Link, a resident of a floating town called Skyloft, sets out to rescue his childhood friend Zelda after she is kidnapped and brought to the surface, the abandoned lands below the clouds.
Development took around five years, beginning after the release of Twilight Princess in 2006. Multiple earlier Zelda games influenced the developers, including Twilight Princess, Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask. Many aspects of the game's overworld and gameplay were designed to streamline and populate the experience for players. The art style was influenced by the work of impressionist and post-impressionist painters, including Paul Cézanne. The implementation of Wii MotionPlus proved problematic for the developers, to the point where it was nearly discarded. It was the first Zelda game to use a live orchestra for the majority of its tracks, with music composed by a team led by Hajime Wakai and supervised by Koji Kondo.
First revealed in 2009, it was initially planned for release the following year before being delayed to 2011 to further refine and expand it. The game was a critical and commercial success upon release, receiving perfect scores from multiple journalistic sites, winning and receiving nominations for numerous industry and journalist awards, and selling over three million copies worldwide. The 2021 remaster sold a similar number on the Nintendo Switch.

While he was skipped over, Jakamar's name is a reference to the similarly named Jacamar, a family of birds native to Central and South America that contains 18 species. His name also resembles Jackhammer, reflecting his being Skyloft's handyman.

Masae's narrating is always something I look forward to hearing. Hooray for all of the birds and bird names in Skyloft. Comments section, help Masae out if she misses some names and let's hear the names for Link and Zelda's Loft Wings. I call Link's Susano after the Japanese storm/sea god, as a majestic and timely hero he is not but his Loftwing still deserved a strong name. Zelda's Loft Wing is Socrates, a famous Greek philosopher in keeping with Zelda's historic pursuits of knowledge and wisdom. Yup, they are both male birds in my head. As for my personal Loft Wing, I would name it Aurora after the light of dawn or Selene after a Greek moon goddess. I am afraid of heights, so you wouldn't catch me dead in that form of flight, but it doesn't hurt to dream.

Looking forward to this! Your Zelda playthroughs are always flowing with passion, and I believe that passion is part of the reason why I've made an effort to play more Zelda games over these couple years. It was a series that I only casually observed on the internet for the longest time, but I never cared to play them until the Switch era and Breath of the Wild. This year, I completed Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask for the first time (the 3DS versions, though I would also like to try N64 Majora's Mask because of the differences), and I greatly appreciated both of them, which pleasantly surprised me given their age. I also liked this game quite a bit when I played the Wii version a little over a year ago. Sure, it definitely has padding issues, but it has a lot of heart and some fantastic dungeons. If this is the worst 3D Zelda, than I think we've been considerably spoiled.

Zelda is some kind of sociopath for pushing Link off the ledge like she did. I swear, that girl has ISSUES. Looking forward to see this, kinda weird to see a Zelda game from you that I actually know pretty well for once. It's still kinda weird to be so familiar with one from the franchise, considering how much I struggled to play Ocarina of Time and Wind Waker normally as a kid.

Didn't expect this to be your next Let's Play, what a pleasant surprise! I played Skyward Sword on the Wii but never finished it for various reasons so I was overjoyed when they announced this version, it gave me a chance to replay and finish it! I was not expecting to see you start playing The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD but I am now really excited to watch you playthrough this Game for another Zelda Series. I remember I got excited for this Game since Nintendo Direct back in February 2021 and then started playing that game when it came out in July 2021. Skyward Sword was my first Zelda Game I ever played since when I was 10 Years Old for the Wii Version back in 2011 but my favorite version for Skyward Sword is the Switch Version. Keep up the awesome work Masae I can't wait for another episode of this Game as a Zelda fan because I am a Zelda fan ;)

So excited to see a full playthrough of Skyward Sword HD as I only played the original Wii version with the awesome gold Wiimote with the Hylian motif. I have to say, despite how divisive parts of this game are, Skyward Sword has so much heart. I really like the story and characterisation in this game. It has some absolutely beautiful moments that have really stuck with me. At its core, the dungeon design and origins of physics and motion to solve puzzles was really fun IMO and the water paint look has always been so charming to me, like you are stepping back in time into a painting of the tale of the original hero of time. The animation and emotion portrayed here with the lengths Link goes to on his adventure and learns to become the destined hero was striking. Needless to say, I'm very excited to see you covering this game. Despite some issues (shudders at the Imprisoned, fetch quests/escort missions and Sky travel/exploration), there are so many cool moments and details in this game that I think back to and smile just as strongly as any Zelda game. This will actually be the first time I am watching a let's play of this game since I played it back in 2011 when it was released, so getting to rediscover it through Masae will be a comforting treat. I mean this is the bird TLOZ game, Masae is going to love it 😄.

❤ I played this game for the first time ever last year with this version. Went with the motion controls and absolutely loved the game. The music, the art style, the characters, the story… loved it all. Completed 100% of the game. Even though I only beat the game within the past year, I somehow have nostalgia for it!

THIS GAME HAS SHOEBILLS AND I ALREADY LOVE IT FOR THAT 😍 I'll be frank, I never ever ever saw anyone play this game. The most I know about it is the music tracks, because Canadien (from the _Wand of Sparking_ channel) uses them so much. Hearing them here instead of in Terraria or Stardew Valley is... sorta uncanny.
