GTFORDMAN besides aiming this car at the taxi industry, I think it was aimed at fleet buyers to try to get a competitive edge over the commodores . That’s the reason why the Falcon BF series 3 wagon sold until 2009 or 2010. TheTaxi industry tends to prefer to buy 2-3 yr old ex fleet cars , unless you’re an owner driver, then you might buy new.

The trick to going faster than the 220 on the clock is you punch it in petrol till it hits the point where it feels gutless AND THEN you keep your foot to the floor and press the lpg button. The cold gas and higher octane pumped into your engine at max ratio is like a 10second hit of nitro. Idk how fast I went but it was past the 220km. I remember it gutting out about 160 and then swapping to gas went from 160 to 220 faster than it went from 80-160. Idk what everyone else was doing with their Aus when they were 18.. use this method and the car was average slug equipped with like 80L of nitro lmao. (Only worth getting the dual tank au tho)
@jamesfrench7299
@jamesfrench7299 2 жыл бұрын
The AU got a higher geared diff ratio than it's predecessor. That allows sub 2000rpm at 110km/h and a nice linear burst of power in first gear. Try the EF or EL which both have 157kw motors on petrol but with a higher acceleration diff ratio and you can feel it!

Íts all about gear ratio and diff ratio. Since you really can't change the gearbox ratio (as there is no difference between LPG and petrol versions) the only choice is to change the diff ratio which can be easily done (well you know by someone that knows what they are doing and had the needed equipment to do it). There is another catch, EB II, ED, EF & EL XR6 rear diff won't work as Ford change the diff housing for AU. Since this AU is a live axle based RWD the only AU XR6 option is the XR6 HP which Tickford did develop for Series I and Series II, I don't think there was a Series III XR6 HP (I could be wrong but I seem to recall the Series III were IRS). Standard Forte, Futura & Fairmont were fitted with 3.08:1 diff ratio the XR6 HP has 3.45:1 (same as the IRS VCT, XR8 while all other AU IRS (Fairmont Ghia or Forte/Fairmont or V8 spec had 3.23:1 diff ratio. The effect of using a shorter diff ratio will lower all 4 forward gears so instead of shifting fromm1st to 2nd at 75km/h the transmission will shift at let's say 60km/h however the downside is criusing speed as you know by now 110km/h is about 1,800rpm.thay will will change to around 2,200rpm which is still fine but fuel economy will suffer at highway speeds. Other things you can do are air filter, spark plugs and leads, use full synthetic oil and also do a transmission service, doing all that + the diff change will easily shave 2 seconds so that makes its a 9.1 second to 100km/h machine ... If you want to go mental you could always put on a XR6 HP Head and Cam and install a newer design liquid phase injection system which is similar to the one used in the FG MK2 EcoLpi apparently they work well with the 2 valve per cyl design head. Of course that is if you want to go crazy and had major funds behind the project. The easiest option if going to a lower diff ratio.
@RossReviewsau
@RossReviewsau 2 жыл бұрын
yeh the diff set up is set up for cruising 100% high speed cruising is what this car is set for (crossing Australia) not great at 0-100 but man i love it

@@RossReviewsau that and fuel consumption, could be worse back in the EA Series I era (so March 1988 to around September 1989) EA with the TBI (throttle body injection) the auto version was the ancient 3-speed hydraulic borg-warner which also had the same gear ratios (from memory 1st was 2.39:1, 2nd was 1.45:1 and 3rd was 1:1) but the rear diff was 2.72:1 even then at 110km/h the engine was pushing 2.700rpm and that was not a pleasant experience with the EA, the XF with its 4.1L OHV carby was so much better but that is another story for another day, I'm guessing that was also well before you were born lol.

Not the fastest AU, but it will probably still be driving and doing similar times when comparable cars have long turned to rust and dust. A lot of people agree that the AU is the strongest falcon of all time and will outlast all others - without serious repairs. B series and up, owners, before you rage, how many accessories have fallen off yours? door handles? etc? I had a new AU company car, then a brand new BA. Loved the BA for a couple of weeks, then problems started, but still far less problems than the commodore company car I had too - it was absolute rubbish - 2011 model. had road side assistance on speed dial for that s/heap.

Which commodore was it a VE series 1 or 2 ? I had a VE2, and I was blown away that it only ever had one problem at around 100K Klm’s, which was a misfire and would go into limp mode and got a stability control error. It ended up being the throttle body ( being a drive by wire) , whilst another of my fellow employees had a VE1 and he had transmission problems. The 3.6L engines in the VE1 had the sludging problems due to a poorly designed PCV valve. My commodore got replaced at 142K , and that was the one and only problem it ever had!

@351tgv 2 жыл бұрын
Actually the grand father of the Intech is the CTC from the EF. CTC stands for "Computer Torque Control" also the EF version introduced the new head design (big difference from the EB II which still was based on the 3.9L frkmmthe EA 26 to EB Series I). Other changes include the redesign air inlet ports which lasted right up until the BF Mk2, the air box and mass air flow sensor, exhaust extractors. Basically EF had its own issues like going from 8 counter weights on the crank to 12 (which made the engine stronger but slower to rev) so it got changed back to 8 for the EL and the AU before being changed again in BA. I found the EA to EB Series 1 3.9L MPEFI engines to be better then the 4.0 from EB 2 to AU 3, they were better to work on as they were more simple, look at the Mick Webb EA SVO or Peter Brock EA SPECIAL to see why the 3.9L were so good, don't get me wrong Tickford worked the same magic but they cheated with with ever so slighted bigger bores.

Next time have the steering wheel at full lock (either way) and then accelerate while holding brake the vehicle weight should be enough for the engine torque to force the wheel with the lightest grip to break traction, remember it's not an LSD so as soon as the wheel with no grip breaks all that torque (power) goes to that wheel and and since there is no traction control the engine won't bog down Use to to it all the time in the VN Commodore way back in 89'.
