I've had a pair of these for two years and they are my go to boot for motorcycle touring. They've gone through two winters and they are still going strong. They are not too expensive, but try a pair of R M Williams which are on another level all together.

Legendary is right. I'm 53 now and have had at least one pair of Loake's in my cupboard for 30 years, my current pair of Bedales are still going strong having lasted the second half of that time. They're coming back to Blighty with me later in the year because I don't trust anyone in NZ to resole them properly (same with my Barbour Trooper jacker as it happens).

I've been wearing Loake boots exclusively for decades and they make great motorcycle boots. I wore a pair, which were already a few years old, when I rode from Sussex to Nordkapp in the artic circle a few years back. Whilst now retired they're still in one piece and wearable.

l own a pair of Loake dress shoes. l bought them, ..(at great expense for the time).., in the early eighties...They are without doubt the most 'comfy' shoes i've ever owned...Plus as you say, superbly made. They have been re-soled/heeled twice. The last time, here in Spain...Spanish Cobbler said Muy Buenos Zapatos...praise indeed, form a native of Elche. The boots you are wearing cost in the region of 420€ here in Spain.... You do indeed get what you pay for..

Thank you Stuart! Those are absolutely exquisite boots! Not sure they'd be proper for our long distances here in the states, but in the cities, absolutely! I've wanted classic footwear like these for some time, and truth be told, they're no more expensive than other quality motorcycling boots, except that these come with "class", rather than a simple utilitarian bit of footwear.

Good to see you Stuart. I’ve had a pair of these for many years in the lighter tanned leather colourway. I recall one boot was a bitch to wear in around the ankle for some reason. I wore them for many years when I worked on my feet all day in a wine shop covering many miles up and down the cellar stairs lugging cases of claret in owc’s for the Belgravia’s wealthy residents. They now only make an annual appearance on DGR day. I live in Redwing boots now, ride in a pair of Thorogood boots and have recently bought a pair of Revitt GTX Discovery boots for longer rides and when I’m touring. I’m off to Alnwick to ride the roads of Northumberland this weekend with TeapotOnes Clan meet. Have a great bank holiday. I’m still enjoying your channel especially the Triumph content.

I recently found a photo of me sitting on my 1938 Velocette KSS. The photo dates from 1968, when I was 18, and I was amused to see my choice of riding gear at the time: suede desert boots, grey flannel trousers and a thin nylon jacket. High quality English shoes and boots just get more beautiful and comfortable with age, if looked after the way you look after yours. I bought a pair of Crockett & Jones “Coniston” boots 26 years ago, and I sent them back to the factory to be re-soled for the first time last November. I also bought a pair of C&J tan brogue boots several years ago, and I have no doubt that I’ll be gone before THEY need to be re-soled. I wear a 1950 Omega watch that my wife bought me for my 60th birthday, and I use film and plate cameras from the 1920s through to the early 1980s. I get great pleasure from using a beautifully engineered and finished mechanical object which performs as well as it did decades ago.

Tbh I wish some British shoemakers would make some proper boots designed specifically for riding a motorbike. Full grain greased leather, a gusseted tongue, storm welt construction and something that comes further up the calf and with some decent ankle support. Something like a smarter version of the Altberg Hogg boots but without the waterproof membrane would do me. Fully with you in trying to buy British goods, or at the very least buying goods from companies where I know an adult making a proper wage will have made them!

Couldn't agree more, Stuart. There's nothing like a pair of English hand made shoes. I have a good number of Loakes in my collection but for bike boots I went to Motolegends and bought a pair of their Tricker's, having recently visited the Tricker's factory. Happily, despite being insanely expensive, I was able to buy them on interest free credit which made the man maths totally viable! 😂

Loake makes some of the best shoes in the world. Their 1880 series are made in the UK; other series are made in India and other cheap places, and I am told that the quality of those lines has drifted downward. It may be that boots that leave your feet sweaty have plastic in them Leather is breathable, lets the sweat out. Plastic does not. I hope you are using shoe care products on those wonderful boots. They will extend the life of the boots greatly. The masters at shoe care are using Saphit which is made in France. I do four steps. Renovateur adds oils and natural lubricants to the boot ensuring that the leather does not dry out and crack. Shoe polish cream continues this but adds color. It has more pigment than shoe polish. Then shoe polish which adds waxes, protecting the boot from water and wetness. If you want to go another step, I use Saphir's Mirror Gloss to put a mirror shine on the toecap. There are videos out on all this. My sense is that the UK makes the best shoes and boots in the world. Where I am in the US, we have Allen Edmonds which is extremely good, but not up to the UK's best. Congratulations on having a great pair of boots. With proper care and an occasional resoling, they should last you for the rest of your life. You could be buried in them!

Hi Stuart, Many thanks for the informative review. I have now also purchased a pair of Bedales, partly because I also want to wear them as motorcycle boots. I noticed that you are using a "rocker" type gear shifter, which obviously doesn't put much pressure on the toes when changing up gears as a regular gear shifter. I'm wondering whether or not the toes will wear out more quickly. What do you think ? Once again many thanks for your video..and indeed for all your videos. I am an avid and regular viewer (Subscriber) to your Channel. Cheers, Tim

Agreed, most mass produced boots are of poor quality. Wolverine is a popular brand in the US, and they're glued together. Hard to find anything made well here for less than $250usd, and plan on waiting months if you wear a EEE width. You should also try out some quality, merino blend boot-length socks. There are some real high tech socks out there (Darn Tough, Grip6), worth a look.

A very hansom short boot (AKA brogan, chukka, paddock shoe, Jefferson bootee, Etc.). For me, your boots are too fine and way too upscale for my kind of use. I wear Doc Martin's in the same style but in plane full grain leather that I can roughly use and not feel I'm damaging them or their finish. If I'd take a fall, I'm sure your boots would protect my feet as well as any others, but what a shame to ruin such works of art.
