The Leica/Panasonic 12-60mm is a great general purpose lens, ideal for landscapes, people and all sorts of everyday photography. But did you know it can also be used for macro? This video explores that with techniques, demos and samples - including my exposure settings.

Thank you. For the completing of this tutorial you have to demonstrate the art of focus stacking - a great option in macro photography!

Many thanks, Andrew, for making me aware of further uses of my 12-60 lens. I too purchased the lens primary for landscape photography, but as you pointed out at 19 minutes of your video the lens is an all purpose tool. Two years ago I hired a macro lens, an Olympus, which was good, but now what you've shown me will do the trick to my satisfaction. I'll finish my coffee, send you a few, and get out there and shoot some close ups. Thanks as always, Mike in Oz

I own a Canon 5Ds, and an MP-E 65. The lens doesn't focus. It's a whole new world when you venture into the bush behind you. Flash becomes essential, and the subjects smaller. Thanks for the video.

Thanks Andrew. I'm glad you made this video as I'm interested in macro. I have the same lens so really helpfull. Montville was always my favourite part of SE Qld.

Great video. I'm wondering if the Lumix 12-60 lens would achieve the same results as the Leica one.

6:55 Use continuous shooting to do a burst. Something should be focussed, with luck framed too.

The sync app has been a must for most of my macro on the G9. Though I have an issue with the sync app connecting to my S5.

I had no problem connecting with a borrowed S1 but I haven't had any experience with the S5.

Thanks, however I eould argue that the G9 + the 12-60 workin in dual IS mode, you should be able to get sharp result withouth tripod at much slowet shutter than 1/100

7:47 I never have understood that advice, a gentle press isn't going to move the camera enough to be significant. For landscapes with longer durations, duration of any camera shake is insignificant.

No mention of the focus atacking feature on the G9?

When I started that project, post focus / focus stacking was going to be the theme. I recorded video and took sample photos...only to find the sample photos didn't work. Every attempt ended up with surreal in focus / out of focus areas all over the place. It's the second time I have used it without success...so I changed to a straightforward macro theme.

Thanks for the excellent video. I was wondering, do you ever use focus stacking ? Couldn't that help to get all the parts you want in focus ?

Thank you very much for this instructive video. I own this 12-60 lens, combined with a GH6. Does it make sense for macro photography to purchase the panasonic 30mm macro lens with a magnification ratio of 1:1. Or can you achieve the same result with the 12-60 lens?
@naturesimagephotography

I haven't used that lens. But the point I tried to make in this video is that for people who don't have a macro lens, this lens will do a pretty good job as a substitute. But not the same as a genuine macro. I think it is worth the investment if you have the money.

I know you have the microphone close by what you showed in the last film. However it is disconcerting, your breath intake comes in hard, not in keeping with the video. To me that is annoying to say the least, maybe it is something tonwork on. Some singers have had the same problem and breathing techniques do help.
@naturesimagephotography
@naturesimagephotography 2 жыл бұрын
Agreed, it is annoying me too. I am still getting used to the new system and will work on ways to use it better. First things first, wearing the microphone further from my throat. Add to that I had hayfever all week so it was not my best vocal effort. So thanks for the feedback, I am aware and working on it for future videos.
