The Lemmon Drop was amazing and 100% legit! We shuttled using Home Grown, and hit Green Mountain, Bug Springs, Molino Basin and Bellota on the AZT, and finished with La Milagrosa.
If you are interested in the custom La Milagrosa T-shirt I designed click here:
trailsage.myspreadshop.com/la...
The Lemmon Drop starts on Mt Lemmon and takes the AZT (Arizona Trail) through the Coronado National Forest and ends on the outskirts of Tucson. Because of snow we were unable to do the first three sections (Aspen Draw, Sunset and Incinerator Ridge) so our shuttle guide Art from Home Grown suggested we start from Green Mountain.
I’m not sure why there are so many negative comments about Green Mountain because I absolutely loved this trail. Bug Springs was also amazing, but the two hike-a-bike sections are big. Thankfully they are at the start and the rest of the trail is mind blowing. Molino Basin was good, and Bellota was exhausting.
By the time you get to La Milagrosa you are pretty exhausted, but refocus yourself because the infamous “Waterfall” comes right at the start and it is very challenging. Once you complete that, the trail undulates for a while before it finally starts descending to the bottom.
If you want a detailed look into the route we took check out my WordPress post:

I realize im going to be in the minority here, but I just really dont get all the LOVE that bugs gets. its really NOT that great. I seriously think everyone that loses their minds over this, needs to get out and ride other terrain in other climates. I may be splitting hairs... but Bugs is a tech trail - not downhill. no chairlift, no jumps, etc. I get tired of hearing "tucsons best downhill, blah, blah, blah..." I have never once seen a 'downhill' bike on mt Lemmon. Bugs is a trail. a marginal one at that. not one ounce if disrespect meant - great vid and ride, fun to watch for sure.
@TrailSage
@TrailSage 2 жыл бұрын
Hey John, I agree for the most part. I actually had more fun on Green Mountain. In addition to the massive hike-a-bike there were a lot of hikers and runners on bugs too which kind of killed the flow. So if Bugs is not your cup of tea what would you recommend in the Tucson area? Dan and I plan on coming back next year (fingers crossed) and we love tech, the harder the better. Also thanks for the feedback.
@Jedi-John
@Jedi-John 2 жыл бұрын
@@TrailSage that's another Bugs downside - heavily trafficked. Frankly, I've just spent so many years riding desert tech. I'm just jaded... sharp stuff, loose dirt, jagged rocks, etc.. At this point, I prefer faster, flowier terrain of Nor Cal, or the pacific northwest, or So Cal bike parks. (wish we had a better one in AZ...) Youre in the right place if you like tech. Mt Lemmon (Incinerator Ridge, Green Mtn, Bugs, Milli) and Brown Mountain in the Tucson Mtns to the west, and to some extent Upper 50 Year and its connectors (in Catalina State Park) have some cool tech. I've ridden everything on this list except Incinerator, which from what I hear is about as gnarly as it gets. Having said that, my personal favorites probably wont interest you 😜 AZT - any of it from Colossal Cave heading south. 50 Year, Chutes Starr Pass/Tucson Mtns. (some fun stuff, as well as some tech to be found here) Anyway, the video was a good watch, thanks for sharing!
