MLS ain’t ready, USL is closer tbh

The point is that p/r is one of the last things you want to do in the checklist towards being a powerhouse league and a relevant league at that. We gotta see MLS fix their salary cap and fake money rules before we do p/r

We can’t have promotion and relegation between USL and MLS when USL teams play in minor league baseball stadiums. TV broadcasters would never allow it. It would look too bush league. If they rlly wanted pro/rel you would have to make it a closed system between the best USL teams and the MLS.

@@gfoot9916 several mls teams play in non soccer specific stadiums, 7 Teams i believe. Most have plans to get their own stadium I think at least seatle and nycfc for sure. As the sport grows we will see more and hopefully get rid of turf as well. But promotion would bring more interest and profitability to the sport and broadcasters care about two things above all else and its money and veiws

The owners of the MLS franchises will never let it happen. Too much money would be lost for those MLS teams that are relegated. Plus some of the USL stadiums aren’t equipped for big games.

MLS isn't ever going to incorporate a pro-rel system, at least not in the next couple of decades. USL, however, is setting themselves up for a system of their own extremely well, and I could see the quality of play getting either extremely close to or passing the level MLS is at right now.

As someone whose just getting into Football more, how would this effect fans of smaller markets or teams that go through rough patches. I'm a fan of one that is small market and is at the bottom of the standings. What are the fans supposed to do? Or what of it's a rough patch like the Golden State Warriors had 2 years ago where they won just 15 games and now are NBA champions

@@21quepasa oh and I’m a fan of a smaller team as well: Temecula FC. We’re in the NPSL league. Instead of having all of these leagues, they should just label everything as division 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 since the US is so big. But my MLS team is Galaxy and I also watch a lot of European stuff.

They’re both American but are separate leagues with different ownership. Imagine if the teams in the English Championship didn’t get promoted into the Premier League and Premier League teams didn’t get relegated. That’s what the American system is right now. MLS is technically considered tier 1 and USL is considered the weaker tier 2 league.

Both are, MLS is the “top league” USL is basically the English Championship, and now USL is completing the Pyramid with other leagues… USL is way closer to pro/rel in comparison.

What's EPL and what's Championship? Which one is the English League?
