The problem is you look at this like you look at a traditional tire shredding muscle car, and it’s not. This is a comfy crusing car with a gruff unkillable v8. Lexus is not trying to be a Cadillac it’s trying to be a Lexus. And from my time with a high mileage (200k) they are unkillable comfy cruisers with a beautiful note behind them

The problem is you didn't do your research and are talking out your a**. Lexus didn't want this car to be made they shut the idea down. A team in lexus made it secretly to show them that a v8 can be used in it and they secretly tracked the car too.

But I feel that's what the gs series should be not the is series. The is series should be spottier IMHO. But honestly I feel Japanese go only after other Japanese brands which is why people know them for their reliability not for the fun anymore. Toyota has it in them with the GR models showing they have the chops.

This vehicle is designed to be the crossbreed between a daily driver and a performance vehicle. It was not intended to be a demon killer or the next drag king. It’s designed to give you the ability to enjoy the amenities of most daily drivers such as suspension, cabin noise, fuel economy, and etc. While also giving car enthusiasts who enjoy performance some of that with the V8 they slapped inside. So if you’re someone that prefers to have a comfortable ride, lots of tech on the interior, good gas mileage, and a taste of performance to give you a little bit of a thrill. Then you’ll love this car. It’s not meant for people looking to go toe to toe with a Hellcat or BMW competition series. So hold onto your criticism just because this car doesn’t meet your specific requirements. Go pay the extra 20 to 40 grand more for a vehicle that is solely intended for performance and sacrifices in other areas that this vehicle doesn’t. Let other car enthusiasts who can appreciate what this car delivers enjoy it while passing you by as you sit at the gas station for the third time in a week.

This is my dream car. You get toyota reliability, powerful v8, luxurious interior, and a very classy exterior look. Miscellaneous stuff like sound you could very easily fix with aftermarket stuff. The black wing feels like a fancy takeover car and sure these M cars are proven names in the car scene with everything you could want but the is500 has everything you need.

It’s not in Lexus’ ethos to make a power hungry, tire shedding, drift machine. It’s a capable, comfy, reliable compact that’s still fun to drive. Also don’t pretend that there aren’t exhaust kits for the is500 and the isf if you want it to be louder.

I would say a supercharged intercooled 6.2l v8 with the option of manual or 10 speed auto and is more refined than a 5.0l naturally aspirated dohc v8 that has only been mated to 8spd and 10spd autos. Ford has been making the same thing as Lexus for years now plus I think most coyote owners would call their motors pretty reliable

@@deadhouseplants64the BMWs are better. Sadly Lexus once again fails at properly introducing and handling another V8 model. The LFA, GSF, and RCF are all failures. No not because they suck. But because they all came out overpriced and were handled poorly. You have dealers pushing out ES and RX models and then you have one LFA or one GSF in the showroom just sitting when most Lexus buyers simply don’t care about those models. Lexus just doesn’t prioritize its performance line enough to let them truly shine. The RCF costs a stacking 70-100K and IS500 costs a whopping 70k+ just way overpriced for what it is.

I just think you missed the point of the car. The engine is a powerful v8 for the moments you want a little fun, but anyone buying a lexus isn't buying it to be a muscle car and go weekend drifting. They want a reliable family car that they can drive daily with the family. And on the drive to work when they are alone they can put their foot down every now and again, get the noise, get the acceleration and enjoy themselves. It's not my personal thing either, but for anyone over 45 who wants some fun but doesn't want to stand out, it's perfect.

1. Get an exhaust easy fix 2. Trans is made to last and it needs to be a comfy cruiser so there’s a tradeoff for this type of vehicle 3. Valid it should shred the tires more imo, idk if I can agree on the other points tho

It actually acts like a DCT after it gets to 3500 rpms because the torque converter fully locks up, shifts in like a tenth of a second which is as fast as a 458 Ferrari. On lower speeds is when it’s slow and when you are driving slowly you don’t care how fast your transmission shifts

All the thing you’re mentioning is why Lexus’s last so long and hold their value. M cars, V series and AMG cars are meant to be pounded on. These cars are for the occasional aggressive driver. The V series cars are nice, but will be in the shop in no time after purchasing it.

If you spend time in it you will learn to appreciate it, the car has character that I can't explain. Just drive it for a day or two and you will know what I'm talking about. You can drive this thing for 5 years and still feel like the day you bought it❤

I bought a 2023 Lexus IS 350 F Sport last year, and I feel that way. It's just so smooth and feels good to be inside the cabin. I did consider getting an IS 500, but at the time, asking price was more than $15k to my already msrp of 52k, so I went with that instead. I love the drive and it's simple which is what I like. 3.5L NA V6 is good enough for me which gives 311 HP! 🔥

Honestly don't understand all of the hate in the comments, I'd agree with the comments on the transmission being unacceptable for the price. I love the IS500 and recognize it's an m340i fighter rather than an m3 fighter, as both prioritize luxury with sporty features so it's only natural it will be lacking compared to something like the ct4-v blackwing which I'd argue it does NOT compete with. It's an absolutely beautiful car with a fantastic sound (but I'd probably get some light mods) with lexus reliability and build quality. That being said, it's interior is getting dated to the point of being unacceptable for the price offered even though I personally don't mind it too much, and it does likely lose out to an m340i where handling is concerned, but it's still a fantastic sporty luxury sedan and almost certainly something I'll buy in 10 years for 25k since it'll last another 20 years with no issue!

I don’t know if it’s to early to tell how reliable they are i haven’t really seen anything about the quality but I know that Cadillac has a reputation for underline electronics so id rather buy the Lexus and tune it with the cost savings

As soon as he said "muscle car," I threw out everything he said prior. This is a touring car. It's powerful, comfortable, handles well, and is only loud when you want it to be. It doesn't need to be a Blackwing.

A sports saloon can’t be a muscle car. Having V8 doesn’t make any car a muscle car, in addition that car is Comparable to M340i and C43 not to M3 or C63 simply because that IS it self isn’t a F car, despite having F engine. That 2UR dates back to S65 or M113K.

Fancy Chevy that makes almost 700 hp, sounds 100x better, better handling/suspension, better technology, has a manual trans like a proper sports car should, and just released a new generation with a confirmed commitment to the supercharged v8 and manual trans? Lexus seems disinterested in making sports cars and this is a miserable representation of that. The two cars are in very different price ranges but still, the CT5-V BW wins every time, day and night, against the IS-500 no matter which way you look at it.

The problem with the IS500 is that it’s a massive letdown. This car should have came out years ago. The V8 is more than enough to get you in trouble but it’s slow to everything else. The 70k+ price for this thing is not worth it. The interior is outdated, you can make excuses for Lexus but once you’re spending 70K+ an interior like that is just disappointing. 70K+ and you get the interior of a 2014 vehicle. The exterior is great, Lexus has always nailed its designs. But that’s it, Lexus makes beautiful cars that are too late to the market and overpriced. It’s the same reasons why the LFA failed and the GSF failed. Overpriced and too late to the game. Leaving the Lexus IS500 as one of the few V8 on the markets today. A sports sedan held back by its sluggish transmission, terrible pricing and lack of interior updates leave it at the bottom of the sport sedan world. If you want a V8, go buy any other one. You can buy a LT1 Camaro for half of the IS500 price and beat it any day of the week.

Dude kind of missed the entire point of Lexus itself. They're aren't trying to build muscle cars that shred tires or go out of their way to build crazy fast supercars that are borderline unstable to drive. Lexus is all about the perfect mixture of luxury, reliability, experience and longevity. The LFA is an exception because it was their way to show the world that they can build amazing cars if they wanted to, while also showcasing their departure from their old design language and overall approach to their newer lineups (The LC500 for example).

Lexus always does that with their transmissions Apparently someone can adjust the code in the programming to make it shift like a DCT but it would lead to service faster. Who knows how fast The 2IS shifts as fast as a DCT at times on its own spontaneously, so it’s capable of doing it obviously, it just needs the program to have it shift that way all of the time regardless of which variables dictate shift speed.

With all due respect, your arguments are absolutely silly! 1) It costs about 20-25k less than a BW. Supercharge this car for 13k and it will destroy every BW out there. 2) The sound is tamed but a catback exhaust for 3k will unleash its unholiness. 3) The car easily slides and drifts with traction off. Maybe hit some corners with no traction instead of driving in a straight line on the highway with traction on?

This is NOT a muscle car. Its focus is on comfort, practicallity and reliability with a bit of power peppered in. It s comfortable cruiser that can move when you put the foot down. American muscle is a different animal all together and is in a league of its own.

And this is the GOOD trim. The other IS trims are making do with ten+ year old powertrains when literally the ENTIRE toyota and lexus lineup has nothing older than 5. The interior is also nearly two generations old. Lexus can easily give this the most recent 3.5v6, 2.4 turbo, 3.4 twin turbo, 2.5L hybrid, and update this engine a bit.
