The greatest friend a demigod could ask for

I'd love to see a whole two minute video with extremely dramatic music just looking at the various slugs.

I actually found Fortissax before I got to Farum Azula and even before I met Lansseax. So for me he was perfectly leveled and had a huge effect on me as the first ancient dragon I had seen. He's one of my favorite bosses in the game just due to the impression he made on me in my first playthrough.

Imagine becoming brothers with your mortal enemy and then going as far as being corrupted yourself just to stop his corruption. Godwyn must've been such a GOAT.

This fight's ost is phenomenal and honestly makes me kind of sad, both for Fortissax and Fia. For Fortissax, there's the obvious tragedy that he tried his best to save his friend only to be corrupted, and for Fia, she has to give her life to bring the salvation of Those Who Live in Death, and her final dream has to be this nightmare.

The ost in this fight goes so hard.

He has the backstory and design of a major boss and seemingly less health than your average Rune Bear. I really hope From ends up giving him a little boost or something, he deserves it. Heh.

I can't be the only one that thinks he's cooler than Placidusax, that double lightning bolt attack and the flying slash are amazing

Probably the most underrated boss in the game. Real shame he’s so secret most players are massively over-levelled for this fight. Even by Elden Rings high standards of presentation and atmosphere Fortissax is one of the most aesthetically striking encounters.

assuming the properties of death root while observing what they do to the player when struck with deathblight, him having them grow all over his neck and even eye must probably be quite painful I find it a little disappointing however that for such an elevated character he is essentially an altered version of a recurring late game enemy

The gold stuff all over him almost looks like corpse wax like he took a bath in it lol. He’s so cool looking, I’m such a sucker for black and gold.

My favorite boss in the game 🥺 I love his design, the theme of his boss room, his boss music, his lore and backstory. I just wish he had much more health than he does. For an undead dragon corrupted by death blight after trying to save his friend, he’s a pathetically weak and easy boss for an end game Tarnished. I had more trouble with the gargoyles getting to the arena than I did with him :(

Huh, thought he was black with streaks of gold but he looks more like a very dark cobalt On a side note do you guys think the streaks of gold are what separated him from the other ancient dragons and he was originally white or he was normally black (or blue whatever you wanna call it) but since the rune of death corrupted him he got the gold?

He deserved to be a unique dragon considering the lore and stellar OST. Still a decent fight though.

It's a beautifull boss, that convination of colors are my favourite.

Fortissax has my favorite theme of all FromSoftware games, Ludwig now being my second. Wish they gave him at least 3X the health as the first time I probably beat him in over a minute and didn't even get to appreciate the music. The second half of it is absolutely amazing, such a shame not many people would get to notice.

It's interesting that his left eye, seen only briefly from about 45 seconds onward, appears to have a black mark on it that doesn't appear in the other clips. Also, his right eye, when the Deathroots are removed, is reminiscent of Placidusax's gold-on-gold eyes and round pupils, along with the round pupils of the Greyoll style dragons. The healthy ancient dragons have vertical pupils. Are round dragon pupils a sign of dying or being undead?

For this reason ranni is the villian of the game

Fortissax deserves to have more health than he does. The guy is the final boss when it comes to obtaining the mending rune of the death prince for one of the ending variations.

best design, best ost, best arena, should have been way tougher of a boss, still a legend

Finally! I've been awaiting a closer look at the Lichdragon, I gotta say, even if this boss is secret and not very strong for some players, he's one of the most dangerous and nightmarish bosses I've ever seen

the fact that the ancient dragons can vary from the white and gold look to dark royal colors like black and gold really makes you think what gransax wouldve looked like if he was still alive since fortissax's black and gold color primarily comes from the death blight spikes in his body and may even be just a birth color, and his sister lannseax normal white and gold color it brings up the possible theory that gransax, due to his size, couldve well likely been fully golden

I mean they may be a reskinned ancient dragon at quick glance but just looking at the backstory he has with Godwyn, the design is completely on point.

Godwyn and Fortissax lore its basically a +16 version of Hiccup and his Dragon from How to Train Your Dragon

We never meet Godwyn... but we are given hints as to what he must have been like and it's all positive. He turned enemies into friends. War into peace. He was the eldest of the demigods and, had he lived, none of his siblings would have challenged his right to succeed Marika. The Shattering might still have happened, but the Shattering wars would not. Realizing this, it's clear why he specifically had to die. Someone wanted those wars to happen.

You know what I think is crazy, not one person on KZfaq ( that I've seen atleast) has noticed that the dragons in elden ring look like the dragons from dark souls age of darkness right before Gwyn killed em, so strange.

Note the patches of golden flesh, you can see on the wings of other Ancient Dragons and the many cracks on Placidusax body that thus is what their muscles looks like under their scales, indicating that Fortissax scales have all but fallen off, leaving nothing but flayed bloody flesh covered in black sap from the deathroot clinging to him. I'd imagine in a few more years Fortissax would look the Other Undead, just a skeleton wrapped in a shell of dark roots

Looking closer at Fortissax I think before he became corrupted by Godwin’s curse of death he was golden in color for such a mighty dragon both in the lore and as a boss it seems like that would fit.

It kind of makes you wonder how powerful Fortissax was in his prime when he first met Godwyn. Even under the black deathblight, you can still see a little bit of his golden scales over what I think used to be his original form. He's the only dragon you see and fight that's like this and has gold colored scales instead of stone colored like the rest of the dragons. It's speculation of mine but I think his original power lied within his red lightning because alot of the other stone dragons have red lightning that's natural to their power, but ever since his friendship with Godwyn, he has gold lightning that's been tainted by the deathblight that inflicts him and Godwyn. I think the deathblight is what's not only putting a great deal of pain in him but being that Fortissax is living in death because of the deathblight, it must be inhibiting alot of his true power and left him having only a fraction of his true power left like the red lightning he uses, and if you think more about it, he was the only dragon that was cable of trying to defeat Godwyn but still failed because Godwyn was a dragon slayer and he showed him mercy and offered him friendship over being foes because he saw something within Fortissax to befriend him instead of killing him. It makes me wonder how powerful he must have really been to be able to resist Godwyn's charm because he was loved by everyone and everything, and for Fortissax to be able to resist that, goes to show how powerful he must have really been in his glory days before we met and fought him as a deathblighted dragon that only exists in memory. Truly one of my favorite dragon bosses next to Placidusax 🔥👌🏼

I don't know what I was doing on my latest playthrough, but I was making it to all the bosses way weaker than I usually was... and Jesus Christ, Fortissax was incredible. He had the right amount of health and difficulty and the music played in sync with one of his attacks I nearly died of the sheer badassery of this creature lmao. Yeah, and i managed to recapture the essence of first fighting Radahn, so... play this game underleveled and underequiped and everything becomes an even higher level of amazing lol.

Some talented artist should make a armour concept based on Fortissax designe. Like we have only two dragon related armours and both are hit or miss for a lot of players.

I like how Unalloyed Gold seems to be what wards away outer gods, and it looks like several dragons such as Fortissax, and Placidusax, have gold skin.

This design reminds me a lot of the story of how the undead dragon from DS1 was designed, it carries that sort of tragedy of a majestic creature reduced to ruin without being gross for no reason

From a Golden Dragon to...Dirty Dragon.

Godwyn's lore is the purposeful ambiguity that interests me the most. Why did Ranni choose him as the target to die along with her physical form? Did he discover that the Dragons' God was also linked to the Greater Will somehow? Hopefully we see get more clarity about him in the DLC(s).

Interesting how the only mutation he has is the death thorn vines. No Godwyn's hair or faces coming out of him. It might be just because of rushed development, or Ancient Dragons are naturally resistant to corruption (like Dark Souls). I also wonder if he had the gold beforehand and if it has something to do with the Erdtree. Placidusax also has a similar gold effect.
