Grotbags - There's Somebody At The Door! Carol Lee Scott Tribute

Emu’s World was eventually created, bringing Grotbags into the homes of the nation. Her goal was a simple one - capture that Emu, and use its special powers to control all the brats in the world. This show also brought to us a certain catchphrase, that any of us that are a certain age will no doubt recite whenever the doorbell rings…
The result is one of the very best children’s tv characters to ever grace the screen, aside from being the self proclaimed most beautiful, talented, well dressed, most magical and cleverest witch in the whole wide world, grotbags is one of the most engaging, memorable and energetic characters I can recall from my childhood.
She was forever bothering the inhabitants of the Pink Windmill, often flying there on her hover grot before beaming down to cause havoc.
Now - did you know that Grotbags actually had a nephew? Who remembers that? If you remember his name - put it in the comments below - I bet you don’t remember!
Grot Bags Grottbags
Grotbags had a few companions during the various Emu series and specials,. Croc is the one I always remember, the hard done by walking handbag as Grotty calls him. Then there’s Robot Redford, often referred to as the mechanical dustbin by Grotbags
Another one I’d completely forgotten about was Grovel the manservant - a sort of butler type who seemed to have a bit more gumption than Redford or Croc, but nevertheless just as much of a nuisance
And not so much a companion - rather a figure to be feared - the magnificent fred, president of the WI, The Witches Institute, would occasionally appear and put old Grotty into a bit of a spin

I met her. As both Carol and Grotbags. Very loud and alarming, in either guise. But for all the villainy of Grotbags, Carol as herself was a very sweet and nice lady. I was very young at the time, I was a bit anxious of her raucous voice at first. It made me take a step backwards. But she realised I was a little shy of her, softened her volume a little (Still loud!) and encouraged me to step closer and chat. A short while later she performed a Grotbags, alongside the Croc character. It's funny how you were able to both fear and adore her at the same time, nobody will ever play a better witch. Honestly, she was perfect in that role. Definitely a legend. What a star. Sadly missed, but very happy memories of growing up watching her on TV.

Hi. I worked alongside Carol, Grotbags on the Rod Hul Pink Windmill Show and 'Emus Wide World'. I played the character of 'CROC' from the early 80s to around about 1984. Carol was the nicest and funniest person i had the pleasure of workin along side with.

🌝I grew up in the village of Cannington a few miles from Spaxton in Somerset. I remember as a teenager going to amateur entertainment evenings put on by Spaxton village in which Carol would sing as one of the pantomime type items. A lovely voice. Although I am 82 I still retain these happy recollections and of other pretty Spaxton girls!

It’s great to see Carol Scott Lee and finding out more about her life. I always used to watch her on tv as a kid. Loved her as Grotbags! I still remember meeting her as a kid at Butlins. I first heard her voice and said to my mum it’s Grot bags, she didn’t believe me at first so we had a look and she was in her Butlins cabin practicing her lines for a show. She seemed such a lovely lady and didn’t mind me having a picture taken with her. I remember looking at her hair at the time and thinking it looked so different, I was used to seeing her with green hair! Thank you for using my picture. Great video, thank you for sharing 😊

Grotbags n Sidekicks carried that show. Even as a kid I thought all the "goodies" were super lame, Rod n Emu included. The kids were all proper "nan" kids ( as in grandparents as substitutes for mums n dads ) and i wanted them all to lose every time to Grotbags, who was constantly awesome. She was brilliant and her and her feckless associates all that made Pink Windmill worth watching. Hooray for Carol Lee Scott who had an actual grasp on what it was to be an entertainer !
