As a part of my current gamer lifestyle of searching for unique and interesting games that aren't like the usual ones(though I enjoy those too), I've often come across Human Entertainment, a somewhat small japanese developer who did some highly interesting games. After doing research into their history, well let's say there's a lot there, more than just the fact that Suda 51 used to work there, something I learned when I did my FamiFun episode on The Firemen. But now I know a lot more, and I'll share that with you here.
This video also happens to be one of my most ambitious ever, I've worked on it for months now and edited it for almost a week straight with only food and sleep breaks. I do hope you enjoy it. If I get one view per hour of work I put in, maybe I can sleep well.
Games featured/mini-reviewed, in order of appearance:
(I don't count the NES/PCE ones, too quick)
Septentrion(SOS) - Super Famicom/SNES - 1993 (release year is in Japan)
The Firemen - Super Famicom/SNES - 1994
Clock Tower - Super Famicom/PS1 - 1995
Clock Tower 2 - Playstation - 1996
Mikagura Shoujo Tanteidan - Playstation - 1998
(Nekozamurai) - Playstation - 1999
The Firemen 2 - Playstation - 1995
Mizzurna Falls - Playstation - 1998
Belzerion - 3DO - 1994
Twilight Syndrome - Playstation - 1996
Yuuyami Doori Tanktentai - Playstation - 1999
Moonlight Syndrome - Playstation -1997
Septentrion: Out of the Blue - Playstation -1999
Bakusou Dekotora Densetsu - Playstation -1998
Remote Control Dandy - Playstation -1999
(Remote Control Dandy SF - Playstation 2 -2005)
Hard Luck/Fire Heroes - Playstation 2 - 2004
Senritsu no Stratus - PSP - 2011
NightCry - PC - 2016

A video on Disaster Report AND Irem broadly AND Human? Subscribed. I had to stop your Disaster Report video because I only played through the 3rd game on PSP and haven’t played the first two yet… These essays should have more views.

The way you juxtaposed the Game Over screen in Septentrion/SOS then immediately followed up with Firemen, you made me realise: the games that established Human's ambitious game design have their respective main dangers be fire and water. That's almost poetic.

This is excellent, I love Clocktower on PS1 and wish I never got rid of 2 or 3 years ago. Even though Ghost Head kinda stunk. Great video, I enjoy off color games too as I get older, and even prior. So I feel where you are coming from!

Fantastic. Each of your company profile videos are wonderful. I know they're a lot of work for not many views, which is a crime, but I really think you did a good job on these.

great video! I had no idea they were responsible for so many quirky and unique franchises (Earth Defence Force! haha). Mizzuna Falls moody vibes feel specially interesting.

Really good video - a riveting story that links together all the pieces of Human. I just wish you covered their PC Engine Final Match Tennis game, definitely a standout sports game among their lot!

Yes, indeed. Its creator, Ryoji Amano, deserved at least one mention as he was the man behind the Final Match Tennis, Formation Soccer and Human Grand Prix franchises. He was the mentor of many of the developpers quoted in this video. After leaving Human, he created his own studio, A-MAX, and achieved great success with the Dynamite Soccer series.

you only mentionned human grand prix, but with 7 episodes, it's the 2nd ex-aequo with sony liverpool longest f1 series after codemasters! starting in 1989 with triple battle (turbografx), F-1 Hero 2 (nes), human grand prix 1, 2, 3 & 4 (snes) and human grand prix 64 (n64). considering the huge success of human grand prix 2 (my favorite game ever) i was wondering why human grand prix 3 & 4 was only released in japan. i probably never get the answer, but at leaser legend saying was human grand prix 64 killed human entertainment because it was so mediocre was denied in your interesting report. in 90s, human was releasing several quality games each year, and the human grand prix series on snes is as good and popular as the sega monaco grand prix series on genesis. when you think about it, clock tower get 2 episodes on snes/ps1, and 1 on kickstarter, when human grand prix gets 6 episodes, from turbografx to n64. there are lot of mystery around theses small company, and it must be super hard to found informations about theses old and rare games/studios nowadays.

I like Suda, but I found the few games I've played of his to be style over substance. Though not done as well, I prefer Swery.

@@Protoman85 i genuinely prefer how it dared to divert from its prequels in terms of its story formula and quite enjoy oldschool cgi even if it didn't age well thats part of the charm not to mention the ost which vibes outstandingly.

Clock Tower voice acting for the Japanese release is better, but the actors don't voice the entire game. Too bad everywhere else got the awkward pauses and B movie acting. Johan if you want to do let's play or translate these games go ahead. Just because Tara translated them, you can do them too. There a few other KZfaqrs that started to translate some of Human's games like Twilight Syndrome, but never finished them. There's only KZfaqr that finished both game 1 and 2, but there's always room for more. The more KZfaqrs that translate or do Let's Plays of the games, the better.
