Like many, Fred is a bit of a hero of mine, his enthusiasm, knowledge & passion for a bygone era captivated me and I was instantly hooked!
From scaling 200ft chimneys as a Steeplejack to him understanding and explaining how Victorian machinery worked, telling stories of his memories growing up in Bolton as a kid! 🧱
Mesmerised and inspired by the locomotive on the tracks, the rail workers and Steeplejacks!
The dimly lit mills and factories thumping out work. Chimney smoke bellowing from the rooftops and the sound of steam trains shooting back and forth from Bolton to Manchester… He really did know how to paint a picture and build an atmospheric scene in your head.
🚂💨
In this video I decided to revisit some of the famous locations that fred had worked on in the past and see how they were getting on all these years later, as well as visiting some of the places that were sentimental to Fred and his fans. ⛏ 🔨
Out of respect for the Dibnah family I have left them out of it as I wanted to make this video with as much respect as possible and likewise for the new current owners of Freds House.
I was gutted that I couldn't use Freds iconic music in this video due to cright infringements.
Apologies in advance for any audio interference. It was filmed over a two week period and I had the company of fighting off Storm Arwen and every bit of weather that Mother Nature herself could throw at me ☔️
I have made this video with the upmost respect for Fred’s family and all who loved him. As always thanks for the love and support you all show the channel & page! It doesn’t go unnoticed and it keeps me doing what I do! Thank you! ❤️
p.s thanks for everyones contribution with the Fred Dibnah photo's/Footage. I really do appreciate you sending them to me.
So take care people and I hope you enjoy the video.
Big Love - 🐒

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again - the respect you showed to the subject of your video (Fred in this case) is second to none. Others have obsessed about how many wives he had, said he was tight with cash etc, basically they all missed the point about this man. He was a legend, you also are a legend and it’s only a matter of time before you get your big break in documentary making

Thank you so much for the kind words Sean! I purposely left out his family due to the fact I didn’t want to get involved in the controversy and I didn’t want to add to the stress of the whole ordeal. I wanted to focus on how much of a great guy he was and the imprint he left behind. I’m so glad you picked up on that, thank you very much for watching and your kind words don’t go unnoticed. I'm Belgian, and I so often review Fred's videos, as him I'm a big fan of steam and the victorian era and the grief over these long lost monuments, Freds a true hero to me, going into the finest detail. Belgium followed close up in the industrial revolution, we to had coal mining, steel industry and mills, sort of mini Britain, unfortunately we had two devastating WW, but a few pearls of that era survived. And as in Britain, our industry moved to Asia, some of these buildings where just saved at the brink of devastation. Thank God, we had politicians and developer who thought of repurposing these beautiful buildings, some have become museums, cultural exhibition centers, and private homes. I don't understand while Britain has such a big housing shortage, they don't convert these abandoned mills into new homes, while saving the character of these buildings… Well made video, love to see a young generation paying the respect to Fred and his work👍

Stunning! Anthony, I have to confess that this video has left me emotionally winded. I've watched many videos and documentaries about Fred Dibnah over the years, all of them very well produced and informative, but yours stands head and shoulders above the rest. The reason I say that is because the viewer can sense how you've really put your soul into this work. I won't ramble on, I don't want to cause embarrassment, but I do want to say a very sincere "thank you" for sharing this marvellous tribute to a remarkable man.

@@daftmonkey7296 Not to take anything away from Fred, as i also believe he was a special man. Who had the gift of being able to relate & explain to everyone his passions. But all wasnt roses. He neglected his family for many years. Giving his life to steam. Not taking family holidays and the like. It cant have been easy for his family. Especially when he spent all his money on the traction engines before his wife and kids. But like i said, he was a special man. You found yourself captivated with his words & enthusiasm. Also his talent using his hands, he was just so inspiring. And i found some things he did, left me speachless. A great man , who should have been remembered as you said, by keeping his memory alive with the museam. Very sad.

@@groovejet33 Yes, that’s very true and i am aware it wasn’t all roses like you said mate. It must have been really hard, especially for Alison and the kids. I purposely kept all of that out of this video as I wanted to just focus on the great things he did. I got some backlash from the last video I did on him back in 2019 (I think?) via Sheila his last wife. As it caused a little friction between her and Leon the previous owner. - Keep me out of it lol 🙌🏼

My dad was from Lancaster so whenever Fred was on tv we always watched him. We grew up in East London watching Fred. Even to a kid born and bred in East London with no interest in chimneys, steeplejacking or anything like that, he was mesmerising. He was like a real life superhero. He could do things others couldn’t. He was so watchable, down to earth, no airs or graces. He was genuine. A true man’s man. I’m 53 now and I still have no end of admiration and affection for Fred. He encapsulates memories of watching tv with my dad. Watching him climb those big chimneys with no safety ropes or equipment STILL gives me a weird twinge in my nethers. God bless you Fred Dibnah. Still miss you. Thank you for putting this documentary out there. Brilliant 👍

As an American, I didn’t know who Fred was until a few years ago. My dad was a “Renaissance Man” , not quite the steam buff that Fred was but they could have had some interesting conversations over a pint or 2. It’s great that someone took note of him and documented so much for others to learn about Great men , like Fred. As a welder, I have to work at heights sometimes and tbo, it scares the crap out of me. You couldn’t put 10 million dollars on top of one of those chimneys and have me climb it like Fred did. I met Fred many years ago at a steam rally in stoke on trent and shcok his oily hands (which did'nt matter) had pint of guiness with him and got his autograph too!!! You are wondeful human being to bring this to the masses Thank you so much Dave

So going to try again I had a notification and clicked on the bell icon, wrote my reply but couldnt post it. Any way now on the comments section of the video. Mate I do have a lot of fond memories of Fred, when I did meet Fred I just couldnt believe it I was in awe, He had a certain glow about him i could have talked for ages with him, but the steam rally was closing so that was it. any how i asked Fred if he was doing any more tv programmes he said he was in the middle of a 12 part series ( little did I know he had cancer) the series was excellent as always with Fred at the helm Its called Made in Britain where ( no real spoiler alerts) where Fred and his long standing friend go round Britain looking at old engineering techniques from a by gone era, well worth a watch mate take care and keep up the good work :) Dave

What a beautiful video. Thank you so much for all your hard work. He clearly left an impression on you, as he did so many of us. I was born in 1971, so can remember the original series being on TV. He made a massive impact on my life and how I am now. A very approachable man. I once phoned him up as an eleven year old kid and travelled from Burnley Lancashire to his house on the bus. His 2nd wife seemed concerned about me bussing back to Burnley on my own. That was the first time I met him and he was just as you might have expected him to be. He would probably wonder what all the fuss was about. At 51 I still regularly watch his videos and documentaries now. You have surprised me, pleasantly, that younger people like yourself are taking something from his work. Amazing. Like I said, an absolutely wonderful moving tribute to a living legend. Thank you so very much. Robert.
