The Sacramento RT Light Rail system, originally branded as RT Metro, (reporting mark SCRT) is a 42.9 mi (69.0 km) light rail system that serves the Sacramento, California area. It consists of three rail lines, 54 stations, and a fleet of 76 vehicles. It is operated by the Sacramento Regional Transit District.
With an average of 36,800 weekday daily boardings in Q3 2018, the RT light rail system is the sixteenth busiest in the United States. ~Wikipedia

It's not the worst light rail system, but when you consider that Sacramento was once California's biggest railroad city it's kind of embarrassing to see what they're left with now.

@@Eurobazz It's a shame that Old Sacramento is such a tourist trap these days, because the railroad museum and the state history museum are totally worth visiting -- underrated IMO.

The plans for its future are also rather disappointing. They're planning to add a "streetcar" while the "light rail" lines are getting low floor vehicles. It really seems like they should be splitting the system into high-platform suburban/metro lines and low-floor street-running lines.

Love the variety of camera angles & shots outside & inside the LRV. This appears to be quite an extensive rail system.

I wish Bakersfield had something like this. I moved here from San Francisco. I truly miss the transportation in the city.

If you do, ride the Gold line to Folsom. The blue line is fine, but it's sketchy at times.

Many of them are pushing 40 years old and will be replaced with new low-floor Siemens in the next couple of years. For their age they are in excellent condition and SacRT should be proud of how well they keep em running

@@notthemama9986 Absolutely. Shows pride among the empluyees! For many years the Newark NJ PCC's were also very well kept and looked wonderful!! And they were at least 40 years old. Thanks for your input

I noticed that there is no elevated platform so that a passenger has to walk upwards when boarding. This must be rather difficult for an aged or handicapped person like myself. I hope the train operator can see all boarding passengers so that doors are not closed too early & one can board readily.

They have short high level platforms in each direction at every station. At 3:18 you can see one.

Like a number of US systems, the stations each have a ramp up to a high-level boarding platform at the front end of the train, the driver lowers a panel over the steps as needed so wheelchairs can roll on or off the train easily.

San Diego has changed (or is still changing) their light rail vehicles over to all low-floor construction, along with rebuilding all of the station platforms, allowing all vehicle entrances available to handle wheelchairs.

The Sacramento light rail isn't a system I think about very often even though it's the 3rd closest system to me.

Great system but two deficiencies. Those horrible sounding e-bells and advertising wrap covering the windows which could be a security hazard.

One of my favorite cities and systems but those ad wraps are fugly as sin. They should stick to the basic RTD livery.

the horn is way louder, they use the bells because they can’t see around corners that well and so they use the bells to let cars or people know to wait, they only use the horn in emergency’s, or at 1 crossing on the gold line. but otherwise they use the bell as a warning system
