I've listened to more than a dozen interviews with the four of them and they seem very dedicated to their music and their roots in other women bands. Again, you need to see the entirety of their body of work to date, and the mesh of their four personalities. Eloise, usually the bass player, is the most punk of the four. She and Mila (the drummer) were behind "Racist, Sexist Boy". Bella, usually on rhythm guitar seems to resonate with a more new wave (B-52s, Talking Heads, Pretenders) thing. She looks like the driver behind their song "Oh!" Lucia, who usually plays lead guitar, seems more of the pop song type and is maybe the driver behind "Growing Up". I'm not sure, because I haven't seen any writing credits on their songs, but it looks like each of them usually sings the parts they wrote. And in that vane, Mila playing drums and singing lead on "No Clue", is pretty impressive.

This is actually a very powerful and empowering song. I so love the line, "We'll never cave or we'll never waver/ And we'll always become braver and braver" Those are some of the best song lines I've encountered in a long while. While the song does play up the cuteseyness and is more palatable sound-wise, etc., I think it still has that "fuck you attitude" that punk is best known for.

Certainly your point about the music industry is totally valid, but they have parents who are in that industry, so hopefully will help them make good decisions vis a vis their record company!

With four singers and four writers, you’re gonna get some variety. The two sisters definitely lean pop punk where the other two are more old school Mike Watt/Joe Strummer

It’s valid to worry about record labels for sure but some of your concerns are a little premature and lacking context. This is NOT your fault because as a reactor, you have to come in fresh. So you’ve only heard two songs. As a result you couldn’t possibly know that their EP released in 2020 had two songs in this style, the ones written and sang by Lucia and Mila. The song they wrote for a Netflix documentary, “Claudia Kishi” was also in this style. Their first single since they got signed was “Oh!” Written by Bella, much more punk/new wave and in my opinion, their best song to date. Bassist Eloise is a total punker.

I think you need to really look at all their videos on KZfaq to see their progression as a band and the personalities of each of them!

This was a nice commentary, I didn't think about basically eveything you guys said. I listened to their album before watching their videos and watch their live performances more and they do come off not as filtered. So maybe that's why I never thought of these topics but definitely something to keep in mind. I do hope they lean more punk but I do enjoy the happy vibez with their music with the lyrics of "we will keep being us".

It is 100% them. They are 4 individual songwriters.

Please listen to more of The Linda Lindas' music. Growing Up is one of their more pop sounding songs, but it doesn't seem to be out of character for the band. These girls write and sing about racist sexist boys, a cat (Monica), speaking up even when its uncomfortable (Oh), being stuck at home in a pandemic missing dinners with grandma (Missing You), admonishing adults to vote (Vote), growing up, and more -- all things that appear to come from the hearts and minds of 4 young singer songwriters at the junction of schoolgirl and riot grrrl.

FYI the first two singles “Oh!” and “Nino” are Bella songs and they’re pretty punk rock. I love your concern for the girls. You’re both very sweet

You two should watch this session they recorded (without an audience) of them doing four of their songs - "Oh", "Racist, Sexist Boy", "No Clue" & "Growing Up" - showing the range of their work - punk, new wave (if that's still a genre!), power pop & plain pop - and featuring each of them singing the lead. This is no cutesy music video, but a recorded session where they play four songs thru very professionally with skill and focus... very impressive I think! kzfaq.info/get/bejne/nLmpfbp1ra-XcX0.html

Yes, exactly the same sentiments here. I've had this 10-minute 4-song set on repeat the past several days, and it literally has me in absolute awe.

Great Discussion! I've been following The Linda Lindas since their viral moment last year and I too have worried about the future well being of these girls. Given their small catalog of music available so far, RSB is more the outlier than this song. The punk/pop sound is more in line with the rest of their music. As best as I can tell, we're getting the artistic output that the girls create on their own and want to do. Yeah, this is song is quite pop. It's cool if it's not your thing, but I love it. I am really looking forward to the album coming out when we will at least get a studio version of this song: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/rsidZtODyt-yhqM.html to help balance things a little more to the harder edge.

Sound like you all (Alice and Josh) are being all peanut butter and jelly. They are young, let them be. Not all song have to be anarchy.

The Linda Lindas are going to appear in a Netflix movie (just as a background band), but watching these young girls sing Bikini Kill lyrics (they were covering them) was so jarring. I also preferred Racist, Sexist Boy and agree it's better to see them stay "Disney" rather than get pushed edgy prematurely. Just hope they get control over their marketing. I know you're very busy with this series, but are we going to get a reaction to the Ed Sheeran/BMTH collab by any chance?

Punk is an ever evolving eclectic , and experimental form of music. Even Devo is a punk band, and the talking heads were punk bands. If your going to discuss Punk Music and the Music Industry. Know your Punk History, and be able to recognize the influence because punk runs the gamut from early electronica, as well as thrashing guitars, and wasted youth anthems. Punk reinvented Pop Music. But its core is its rawness and Don't give an F . . . attitude, This is noy pop punk. This is the style from the more experimental phase between 70[s punk and the transition to Ska punk, new wave, psychobilly, and other hybrid genres in the 80s Gteen Dat is pop punk, Green Day has the riffs but the lyrics are reminiscent of Buddy Holly. What you are calling punk is the post iunk is dead 090s renaissance. The 70's style was all over the placee, The Lindas pay homage to all eras of punk but they really dig in to the old school styles and spirit.. Even at first listen with an untrained ear I recognize that the sound of the Lnda Lindas is influenced by by the Raones, Sex Pistols, and the Go-Gos. Very Old School Punk indeed.

I like Racist Sexist Boy better because it's a protest song against bigotry and it sounds much more raw. But this is good too. I just skimmed wiki and read they shared stages with Bikini Kill, and Alice Bag who I highly recommend. Her recent video "77" about the wage gap for women, features Kathleen Hanna and Shirley Manson. Here's the link, it's rad kzfaq.info/get/bejne/kNOeh6qF3rjOdYE.html
