It's a shame that Tim's opinion of the animated Jungle Book is so shallow. Read about how Milt Kahl hand drew the animations of Shere Khan without reference to actual Tigers, and drew facial expressions based on how the voice actor was portraying him. Kaa's elasticity and slinkiness in the "Trust in Me" sequence is mind blowing when you think about the level of draftsmanship needed to make it believable to animate. The first Jungle Book movie is a masterpiece of craftsmanship

I don't think you can beat the original simply because it's the original - that does have merit. It's vibrant, animated and has much, much more soul to it. The performances are also way more powerful. The way Jeremy Irons performed Scar cannot be matched, though Chiwetel did an awesome, terrifying Scar. Irons added way more dynamic to the character. They also didn't add in the lesson Rafiki taught Simba with his stick - which is a massive disappointment for me personally. I also didn't like how Beyonce was made to be star of the show, when the story is about king, not a queen. Her voice was heard way over Donald's in Can you feel the Love Tonight. And Donald Glover's performance was way too chill - adult Simba was shadowed by other performances, which is a bit of a disappointment. And giving Beyonce a commanding role over Lioness' felt out of place. Not to mention her very own song. I wish they hadn't given her such a platform in a film she's only lending her voice in like the rest - it shouldn't be necessary. Other than that I enjoyed the rest of the film. I'd say what I loved about it but that's all there is on the podcast bar Andy's! PS: You're also missing things that were in the original - i.e Nala says in the original too that she came looking for help and found Simba. Scar also made a point in the original to Simba that he should really work on his roar (to attract the heard). You guys should watch the original right after - you'd be surprised what you can forget haha. It's also fun to see the differences all fresh!

They could use this techonology to make a brand new movie with extinct animals, so we could see them live again in a digital world. I saw they use a Rhino that went extint in the opening of the movie, so the idea is (kinda) there. I just can't see the point to spend a lot of money to recreate a movie that already amazing and unique. Just for the money and not the artistic vision.

Y’all seriously liked seeing 5min of Simbas fur traveling to Rafiki?! Only thing this movie had for me was it looks great and the hyenas seemed more intimidating than the original at some points. Otherwise all the voices were either bad or serviceable. Even having Mufasa back didn’t feel the same up until the “Remember” scene although that scene really pales in comparison to the original. Any time the movie started to have a moment for me it was over. After Hakuna Mattata the movie seemed rushed. I’d give this movie a 2/5.

I think you guys need to go back and watch the original. Most of the things you said were not in the original ARE actually in the original. All of the motivations and virtually all of the dialogue is the exact same.

I mean they took some liberties yes, but it was a decent movie overall. I went in saying this is for the new generation so I was so happy for them.

I hated this movie. I adore the original. I found the voice acting to be lifeless like they were reading of the script with no real emotion. At least for the first half. The second half picked up for me but not enough to ever watch this film again.

I disagree that Donald Glover did well. His singing voice was good but his talking voice for simba did not fit the setting at all. Probably my least favorite part of the movie

This movie was trash. The CGI was the best part. I tried to take away the nostalgia but it still didn’t have enough heart to it. I love Beyoncé singing in this but her dialogue didn’t do it for me. Seth Rogen save the movie for me.

Baby Pumba was the only thing I liked about this movie. The CG is awesome and realistic but still was disappointed with this version.

Saw the movie... Liked it. Wasn't insanely great, but it was definitely something I'm glad I saw in the cinema. From most reviews I've seen it just seems to be people split between being pissed that their nostalgia was being "tampered with" and people who want to bitch about Disney cash grabbing. I just don't know why people can't go watch movies and sit with it. A movie is just OK sometimes. This is one of those movies. It just lacked a bit of pacing. I've seen a lot of terrible movies in the past few years... This one isn't even close to being a bad movie, let alone a terrible one. But, I also would never directly relate this version with the animated one. They come from two different brains and two different visions.

This movie is just a pale imitation of the original. It’s impossible to look at it as anything else since it’s virtually beat for beat, line for line, the original, but the presentation is nowhere near as good. Since it’s so close to the original, you can’t help but notice its inferiority. The visuals are great, and the amount of care and planning that went into them should be applauded, but that sense of awe wears off after 15 minutes when you realize that is all the film has going for it. The movie isn’t terrible, but it’s a film that I have a zero interest in ever revisting. This will just be a vague footnote whenever people talk about the original. It’s biggest accomplishment is that it reminded us of the original, and gave us a reason to revisit that film.

This movie was a soulless cash grab. I felt this lacked a lot of emotion and heart from the main characters idk maybe it was just the facial animations but I just couldn’t connect to them at all.

This remake was awful. Given the realistic take of the animal'sthey couldn't show emotion or anything really. The music numbers were trash, I wanna be king was so awkward to watch cause of the animation. Movie was boring, barely anything new was added or given depth to break it apart from the remake. Timon and pumbaa are the only voice actors I felt that try, everyone else felt like they phoned it in.

In my opinion, the 1994 film had better music (better singing in the original songs, particularly "Circle of Life" and a MUCH better "Be Prepared") , more emotion in the acting ( Most of the line readings in the 2019 adaption felt like " OK, we have to say this because it was in the original, so let's do one take and get it out of the way"), and honestly just better actors in the roles. The 2019 film was pretty forgettable to me. The animation is obviously AMAZING, and some of the changes made were justified ( Scar has better reasoning that in the original, even though he is not as fun to watch), but the whole time I couldn't help but think "Wow, I'd much rather be watching the original". Speaking to my earlier point, a lot of the scenes felt extremely rushed and very much "we're just doing this because we have to". I also thought Donald and Beyonce were ok, but they weren't a good combo to me. Beyonce sounds much more mature than Donald and out-sings him. Overall, it's cool to have this story for a new generation, but it just doesn't add up to the original. Far less impactful, in my opinion. I'd call it "The Lion King-Lite".

This is almost as unwatchable as the remake.
