You can really feel the pain in Rafiki's voice... So sad...
@perfectlyimperfect10957 жыл бұрын
I know right. She is wailing and keening which is how we mourn for those we lose here in South Africa. We believe that it is better to breakdown and cry so that you let the pain out. So normally at South African funerals people will cry hysterically.

we love broadway in my choir, but to be honest its a high school choir so we are somewhat immature. Now none of us had herd this version of the song before so when our choir teacher played it we were caught off guard. not a single person in that room kept it together. Do we know its not the word we thought it was? yes. Was it any less funny when you were not expecting it? Absolutley not. But the song is beautiful, and hearing it live it sounds less like the word and more like the meaning behind it. I love this song

The role Rafiki plays in the broadway production is of a sangoma which is a traditional healer and seer of the spirit world also known as a shaman. In South Africa where I'm from Sangomas are revered individuals and they are the pillars of the community. This the who Rafiki is. She is Mufasa's confidant and she is the one who helps Simba connect with his father when he is older as she has the power to access the spirit world. She even gives Nala blessings and puts special potions(muti) on her for protection and other things during the shadowlands performance hence the hand waving and the "babbling" is also her asking the spirits of those lions who have passed on to the spirit world to guide and protect. Sorry for writing so much.

@@terryt9833 The only offscreen female soloist in the movie sings one verse of "Can You Feel the Love Tonight." There is an offscreen male soloist for "The Circle of Life." And there is an offscreen chorus which performs a verse of "Can You Feel the Love Tonight," and various other vocal segments during the movie. All the rest of the vocals are for onscreen characters: Simba, Nala, Zazu, Scar and the Hyenas, and Timon and Pumbaa.
