I like the part where rafiki comes to bless her before she leaves. truly a touching farewell from the whole pride.
@EditorOfSL6 жыл бұрын
Kira GIn Me too. I think it’s also fitting they make Rafiki female in the musical, because her sharing this song with Nala and the lionesses really does emphasise the strength of the pride, in the sense that the women are always the ones who do all the work in a pride whilst the males just lie around. It makes for a pretty feminist number.

I love how the song is to the tune of "This Land" from the original movie. It's easily one of the most emotional songs for me besides "Endless Night". The cast did a fantastic job, and every time I listen to the songs, I get major goosebumps. This musical was my first Broadway show, after all.

This song makes me think of an immigrant's journey, but not an immigrant of choice, a refugee or an exile, someone forced to leave and make a life for themselves away from a beloved home. Interestingly, Lebo M. one of the composers of the lion king was one of the people exiled by the apartheid government. It was illegal for him to go home for 15 years.

I wish this had been in the movie the song really shows how the lionesses suffered under Scar's reign and Nala being only a cub at the time must have consistently targeted as lunch for the hyenas. And the lionesses having to hunt for there enemies, really wish more of their story was shown, but the song is pretty much a clue as to their unknown sufferage.

It's refreshingly different than the music we're force-fed on a day to day basis. I can't imagine I'm the only one that actually finds music more emotional when you can't understand the language it's in. You merely listen to the emotion and tone of their voices, and this song in particular delivers on that front.

I'm a huge fan of the musical and film series. But, Nala was always my favorite female character, she showed how strong she was and even became queen! She is a true inspirational figure even if she is animated. My favorite male character will always be Scar! Yes, I said it Scar! Even though he basically went mad, he still was charming and smart. Lastly, this version of Shadowland is my favorite. The words and instruments are amazing.

This was the song that we had the highest part in. And every night, we pushed, and I remember this song so strongly when singing because it was so emotional. We put out a lot of emotions, and most nights, someone in the audience started crying. It was fantastic.
