Will you dry fit the keel to the hull before fiberglassing?

We aren't doing a full keel. Another idea Sam gave us while at his shop. We'll have just the part above the waterline be a traditional keel, then below the waterline use a product called "Keelgaurd"

Why are you using screws - and then removing them and gluing in toothpicks? We use Raptor nails (composite exoxy plastic) and an air nailer - and just leave 'em in. Specifically made for cold molding. They are as strong as the epoxy you're using and sand just like the wood. Some reason that Sam Devlin doesn't use them?
