It's a real story, it happened during the great depression time, just after world war 2. The girl was found dead with a smile on her face and this inspired the writer to come up with this story.

That is a lie, the fairy tale predates the end of WW2 by about a century, and the writer died long before. It may have been based on a real story though, but there is no definitive proof of that.

@@tanimation7289 Well I had heard Hans Christian Andersen's story The Little Match Girl since very young and I guess I just assumed that the moral or point of the story was to be charitable. To help others in need. But many people have different thoughts about what point of the story are. I've heard of others saying that the moral is to have hope (I'm not sure if that would be correct since in the end the girl does die so....) but to say that death is the only way out never came across my mind as a young child and I'm sure kids don't come to the conclusion of that after hearing this story. Besides when people make these type of videos they don't directly tell the audience that the girl died you just assume she does (which is correct). Disney has also covered this story and if the point of this story was to tell kids the only way out was through death than they would have obviously not done this story since most of their audience are in fact young children/children.

This story shows the harsh reality of the world today.... But not all are such cruel .. Amd yes,most people don't care for you unless you are dead,they won't help you but feel sorry when it's too late,like they won't be there to help you because it takes time but will be sure to attend your funeral ☹️...

Wrong story Hans Christian Anderson wrote this story and this is in ise 2019 exam so I know Her name was not given The slippers had been lost not broken as one was taken by another boy and the other one was lost

No it's not, it is a fairytale from the danish writer Hans Christian Andersen. And yes she dies in the end. Spoiler warning so does the little mermaid, another of H.C. Andersens fairytales.

What kind of fairy tail is this?!?!?!? The littel girl died and the grandma dies too!!!!? And her father was threatening to hurt her if she didn't sell any matches!!! And she died due to staving and hypothermia and so what happen to the father and the baby and the mother? This is a very sad story to tell to kids. this is not a story to kids it's very depressing.

Jacey Juanico I don't think it was meant for kids originaly. I think it was meant for a bunch of big wigs a long time ago. the story was written by Hans c Anderson and the big wigs back then care less than today.

People were regarding her with pity!! when she was dead! No pity was afforded her when she was alive!? No one offered money for the matches ,or offered to treat her to a meal,! With a lazy man for a father ..she had no chance... .
