As a white person. I could give a shit less about Ariel being black. Her skin or background was not even a factor of her character, she was a fish lol. To me Ariel has always been about her angelic voice and Halle SLAYED the hell out of the two songs I've heard so far so I'm so ready to see this movie

I definitely agree, but what I am even MORE happy and excited about is how much Halle seems to just shine as Ariel personality wise as well. Her smiling and laughing at Sebastian, puffing out her cheeks with the puffer fish... she is just so sweet and adorable, and seems to give that innocence and naivete, while also showing that rebellious curiosity and desire for adventure, knowledge and freedom. So it seems like they not only found someone with a perfect voice, but someone who can also be the perfect Ariel on screen in every other aspect as well. I can't wait for this movie to come out right now!

I think the real problem lies in the general intellectual dishonesty going im a gen zer an "older" one at that and why do folks forget disney version of these folktales/fairytales are not even the original either im sure when we were children and the animated were "ours" there were 30 plus year olds upset that the animated were not like the books they grew up with as well and thats the thing these movies are a refreshment for the kids not for "us" were not longer the target demographic and it seems these adults are having a tough time getting that as well as fairytales are meant to be remade(its why we have 9 thousand different versions of Cinderella) so there can be a version for everyone.

This is what I've been saying 👀 I'm a bit relieved that others understand this. I remember the old days on Facebook whenever a new show came on Cartoon Network, people would reply "Bring back the old one" 👀 They don't know how cringe they are 😅

@@tygerchickchibi Its WEIRD absolutely because a good bit of those folks already had a decently happy and fulfilling childhood literally saying they got many ariel barbies and etc.. why are they in kids of today business on what they wanna watch its like they wont grow up all these demands for a children's movie is wild they lowkey bullied the studios into having to make this nearly the best of the live action stuff and making the black actress have to work ten times harder to prove herself which they did not do to the other women... there so much mess i watched when i was younger that i loved that aged like milk they should be letting these kids have stuff like their parents let them have stuff.

With Halle, I believe that they got the right PERSON for the role in more ways than just her voice, but her voice is gorgeous, and PERFECT for the role. As far as Disney trying to "Even things out," I don't know if that is a motive, but people of ALL colors, and races have been giving their hard earned money, support, and love to Disney movies for as long as Disney has been around, so what the hell is wrong with Disney FINALLY getting it right and saying, 'Hey, fans of all races have made Disney what it is today, not only by embracing our movies wholeheartedely even when they weren't being represented on screen, but also frequenting our them parks as well, and we OWE them the opportunity to feel embraced, and apprecited'! Anyway, I am looking forward to the movie!

its also weird because MJ played a scarecrow in the black wizard of oz in the 70s nothing has ever been said... brandy/Whitney Houston 1997 version of cinderella was extremely changed not only from ella in general but even the rogers version it was based on I wonder what changed in society .

@@justashleekeyton its wild to think in some ways as a society we have lowkey regressed that said yes I do want disney to start putting out more original work(heck hollywood in general) I would love more original stories that said fairytales are the one genre your encouraged to add your own creative spin. so im not always upset at a well done remake!

It’s the mass media propagating division by this obsession of race & the incessant focus on immutable characteristics like race. It’s made racists more racist. The general consensus of the "black" friends around me is that while it's nice to see a "black" mermaid, they'd much rather just see Disney put in the work to have a fresh black princess...a NEW story...not just a whole bunch of remakes. P.S. Ariel's race is MERMAID. Lol.

I agree, Disney with live…they could do better. The race thing, it’s nice that they have a black Ariel, but I could care less. I’m more excited about the music. I think she will deliver musically. And of course I’m excited about seeing Ursula. It looks like a great pic for that character.

White reactors are doing a better job than some black and half black creators in giving their opinions of this trailer. Def more supportive. You guys have to get off the topic of the race-swap or how dark a 2 minute clip of the movie is 🤦🏾‍♂️. The entire movie is blind-cast. The story has completely changed. You’re not CGI experts. The movie will be okay cause all live action crosses 1B. Your clip will fall in the algorithm of being a negative video. And it’s sad. I liked your content. Sigh.

If you’re going to have a negative reaction to a subject HE ALREADY KNOWS HAS TONS OF HATE bc the actress is BLACK and not half and half like him, then why add to the hate like you do? Many of my friends don't care about her race either. the opposite we laugh about the whole big deal people make of this 😂 like ohhh noo a fish girl is black bo hooo 😂 I won't care even if she was an alien with green skin, it won't change shit anyway since it is about her discover the human world and not about her race.

Umm yes! The little mermaid is my all time favorite and I was ok with Ariel. What I’m not ok with is the colors looks dead to me and her hair wasn’t red enough! I mean you want me to believe the animals are talking, they could have enhanced the colors ALOT more. The jury is still out on the songs…but so far so good

I agree. They actually have a video where they color corrected the video. I was like yeah. It needs more saturation and color. I think they tried to make it too real. They should’ve learned their lesson from “Lion King”
