Here is a long form discussion of the benefits and drawbacks of a John Deere 1025R from my perspective. This video is the opposite of my other recent review video on this tractor. Let me know if any of y'all have any questions. This is the last video on my channel of this tractor as it is getting picked up and hauled away on September 22nd, 2023 to make way for a new machine I've already named Bullwinkle. Stay tuned!

I own a 1025r. I've had it for 3 years going on 4 years and I've never had a problem with it. I run a 4 ft Brush hog, a 6 ft finish mower, a backhoe, post hole auger and a mold board plow. I've never had a problem with running anything. The tractor is designed to be a Sub-Compact tractor. It's not made to live life on a 20 acre farm. If your going to complain about the tractor not having the power or being to small, maybe if you used the tractor for what it was designed for instead of trying to farm with it you would see what it can do. I love my 1025r. I would not trade it for anything.

Hey Scott, appreciate you weighing in. I’m glad you’ve enjoyed your experience with the 1025R like I did. I really enjoyed the time I spent owning it, but I decided to trade in this machine for a more capable one which I alluded to in the video. I bought the machine from the previous owner of my home with no real intention of keeping it or using it. It really grew on me so I kept it for about 10 months. Thanks for your comment and for watching my video!

Nothing but bs click bait. I fail to understand why this tuber feels the need to review a piece of equipment that A, he has barely used and B reviewing a tractor that is clearly not the right machine for his use. He could have just reviewed a Philips head screwdriver and complain about it not working on flat head screws, it would have been just as relevant 😂

thinking of buying the 1025r for my property and I have 25 acres,have about 15 acres cleared and run 4 head of cattle on it to save on mowing it,the rest has alot of trees and bushland but has some hills and gullys,how would the 1025r go working on inclines etc of the hills
@LandFather
@LandFather 9 ай бұрын
@@Oracle550 gear drive tractors tend to perform a bit better on hilly terrain than their hydrostatic counterparts but I imagine the 1025R would be fine unless it’s really really hilly. If you have that much land to manage, I’d look at a bigger tractor if within your constraints/budget. Particularly if you need to manage round bales for your cattle. This tractor would not handle a large round bale with the loader. My other tractor is a 50HP and it seems well suited to my 20 acres

I purchased a 2022 JD 1025 R and a backhoe that JD had attached. I have close to 200 hours on the unit and I have used it on our three acre homestead. I'm very pleased with the little tractor and it has performed very well with all of the tasks that I have used it for from moving rock and dirt and loads of wood, it's done very well. The backhoe has been very helpful for digging ditches to control the water issues on the property, it's a very helpful attachment. I've purchased a single blade plow from Tractor Supply and it was truly appreciated when my wife and I started this years gardening. I also purchased one of the post hole augers as well. I plan on using on our chicken pin project but haven't had time to use it yet because of the JD 1025R I am using it on a retaining wall project! I'm very pleased with this little tractor and it does all it was designed for and I recommend anyone who is looking for a dependable sub- compact, consider all the comments from the folks use them, then purchase the one that fits your needs. 👍🤔👍

have a 1025r with a brush hog, bucket, grapple and backhoe. Ive had it for just over a year and as of today have 237 hours on it. Thanks to the machine I have picked up a $300 a month 5 acre mow job and just completed a fence clearing job in combination with a skid steer ans a 2 man ground crew. Yes, the 1025R is a small machine but because of that it will fit in a lot of places a larger unit will not. Got mine with less than an hour on it and have done all services on it as well as install the kit for the hydraulics for the grapple. Yup. 3 cylinder Yanmar, all mechanical. Easy to maintain and overhaul.

The 1025R for me happens to be the best fit for my land. I only have a bit over 3 acres, but with a larger machine, I just couldn't mow or drive around the property comfortably. For my KZfaq channel, the keywords definitely have helped boost viewership. We're about at the same point - I'm no longer "nervous" to be on camera and tell family and friends about the videos I make. It really is a fun hobby! You've got yourself a subscriber, my man!

Thanks for the Review @Landfather I’m hoping to face 10acres of cleared land soon and was considering the 1025R Still back and forth with it and the 3032. Im thinking I’m going to get up in the 40+ area on the 3 series with the same attachments I can have on the 1025r Backhoe, Bucket, and center mower for 30 grand. I’m 6’3” so thinking it might be too small. I got to get out and sit on one. Really just want to stop by and say I love the Tactful Way you answered some of these “Guys” (Other words I would use to describe them but trying to learning from you) who attack you just because of your opinion lol!!! hi, thank you for watching and for the kind words. I try to kill em with kindness and reason. If I hadn't bought the 1025R for a good deal from the previous owner of my home I would never have selected that machine due to the limitations I discussed in the video. If you are open to any suggestions I would start with the biggest possible tractor you can afford (and tow comfortably) with the highest loader lift capacity. I would take a heavy look at Kioti if you have dealer support in your area. I don't think their value proposition can be beat in the compact tractor market right now. Additionally, I would drop the tractor backhoe and get a Chinese mini excavator because they are better and cheaper. It's hard to use the front of your tractor and the back of your tractor at the same time, and you avoid all the hassle of hooking up the backhoe. To be fair I've never used a tractor backhoe, but I've gone through the mental calculus and I think Chinese mini ex is a better call. I got mine with a 9 attachement bundle for almost exactly $9,000 which is still less than the backhoe my tractor would spec out for. Additonally additonally, I wouldn't get a mid mount mower for a tractor if I could avoid it. I would get the best used commercial grade zero turn lawn mower you can find and afford. I just upgraded my zero turn a few months ago, and it's been the best equipment money I've ever spent. I bought a used 2021 Scag Cheetah 2 (~$18,000 new) with 600 hours on it for $4,800, and it replaced an Exmark Quest E Series "prosumer" lawn mower (that sells for $4,400 new) and the difference is astounding. Honda civic vs Ferrari. Just a few things to chew on. Congrats on the impending land. Besides getting married and having kids, it's the best thing I've ever done.

I have a 1998 JD4500 (45 HP Compact, 4WD, power reverser, loader) and had a 2002 x585 (equivalent to today's x738). 15 acres of very hilly terrain. I used the x585 for almost everything, but for brush hog and loader, I use the 4500. The x585 started needing maintenance and i figured I would try to go from 2 tractors to 1. Traded in the x585 and got the 1025r and was going to sell the 4500. Well, the 1025r was too small for the big stuff (as you state), and too big for the little stuff (mowing, hauling small items). After a year and 60 hours, I was just unhappy and traded the 1025r back for a x758 and still kept the 4500 for the big stuff. I could not be happier now. I only use the 4500 about 40 hours a year but when you need it, you need it. And it is paid for. The x758 can do so much for me with mowing on steep hills, hauling my wagon with wood, etc. Maybe one day I can move down to one tractor as I convert more of my unused pasture to woodlands, but if so it will be the x585 I keep.

Thanks for sharing that. In a perfect world, I probably would have kept the 1025R, but couldn’t justify owning three machines currently. The dealership I purchased the skid steer from gave me a great deal on my trade in, and for now I’m very happy with my DK5310 and John Deere 333G, although there are certain tasks I’m going to miss the 1025R for. Part of me wants to look for a smaller, older machine (more like a classic tractor) just for fun, but I’ve got too much else on my plate right now to do that. Thanks so much for watching!

Yes off road diesel is ultra low sulfur, and I’m not sure about cetane rating in South Carolina. We rarely get cold enough to warrant being concerned about cetane rating. I know off road diesel generally has a higher cetane rating than on road diesel

The 2 or 3 series is the better deal for most medium to large homestead work 30-50 horsepower range is a pretty good spot to be. For our needs we just bought a 2032R and it is plenty capable. The 1 series is just a bit too small we have a garden mower for those other tasks and it is an old Deere lx 178 made us stay with Deere it has ran for over 35 years its a tank.

I have a 1025R with the 206B backhoe implement. The 1025R serves it purpose but when using the backhoe, this machine has no ass. By that, I mean when your digging, there's no weight in this tractor to compensate for the hydraulic power of the backhoe.

The machine is low on ass for any purpose, I’ve been curious what running the backhoe on it is like. What have you done with it?

@@LandFather Power isn't bad overall in my opinion. It all depends on what your doing and your budget. I'm currently digging out sono-tube footings in red clay/shale soil. The back end scoots around a bit with any quick movements of the backhoe hydraulics. Especially the side to side swing. I have the 8 inch bucket. You have to take light bites and take your time. To your point, this might be fine for light duty work on 1-2 acres but this is not going to get the job done fast. It's like a bass boat. You can buy the 21 foot Ranger or the 16 foot base model Bass Tracker. Gotta weigh the pros and cons and how to get the most bang for the buck. I got my 1025R with the 206B and the front end loader implement like yours for a steal. I couldn't afford the "2" series.
@LandFather
@LandFather 9 ай бұрын
@@Tracker7266 it certainly beats the heck out of a shovel! What are you building on top of the footings? I wonder if adding some cast iron tire ballast would help with the side to side swing?
@Tracker7266
@Tracker7266 9 ай бұрын
@LandFather I'm removing existing concrete sono tube footings from a portion of raised deck that was on the back of our house in preparation for doing a hardscape patio with concrete pavers on grade. I thought about rear wheel weights but I don't what that does to the tire rating. The outriggers also don't have any pads. Rubber ones are available for street use. The backhoe hydraulics are just a lot for this beefy, heavy-duty "garden" tractor. The 1025R has lots of "pros" ... and a few "cons." The cons are not the tractors fault but the implements that they're trying to make work on a lighter model tractor.
