Well, I personally think that the song having a deeper meaning under a seemingly cartoonish beat and art style is a great way to portray someone slowly losing themself as a person.

I know this song is about fame, and people are saying it feels like a villain backstory, but I relate to it from the perspective of someone that growing up had a "brigh future" that could not be realized due to chronic pain and other disabilities. The "Touch me Midas, make me part of your design" hits specially hard, in the sense that I don't really feel like I "fit" in the world's design, like I am broken, and I am on hard medications that don't always work. It's a nice song, comforting, in a way, I listen to it when I am having a flare up.

It mentions pain pills which are extremely addictive, representing him being addicted to drugs. He wants midas to touch him so he can be valuable. He suffers so much due to his addiction and his friends and because he thinks he's not special. He then arrives to a bridge, and mentions "lean in eyes closed" meaning that he jumped off. He felt fear for the very last time meaning that he was scared while falling but there was no going back.

Despite getting the message of the song really well i now just realised the beginning of the song isn't just people being jealous at his success, they were straight up WARNING him. He admits that they were right but is too overtaken by success to consider "taking it simple". The beginning to me used to paint the people as simply jealous and that was just his perspective, brushing off all their concerned warnings.
