I love Lobophyllia but they can be tricky to care for. Hopefully this video is helpful to those that are looking to try them in their reef tank. For those that have had good experiences, let everyone know about your system and how you care for these brain corals.

I've had a lobophyllia for about slightly under a year now, purchased at the small size of a single head little larger than a nickel. Everything you mentioned is spot-on in my experience. My lobo is in low light (bottom of tank) in low flow. My tank doesn't have low-flow zones, so I had to place this coral in a small fish bowl inside the tank to be shielded by the flow. My lobo initially started as a dull green, but has grown into having an orange center with streaks that go into the dull green (majority of the lobo is orange now, surprisingly). I feed every-other day, spot feeding a variety of mysis, brine and pellet food. I use New Life Spectrum, Omega One Marine Pellet w Garlic, and even Hikari Sinking Carnivore pellets (all of which the lobo eats) for my pellet food. My lobo is now larger than a quarter and entering the stage where the outer brim starts to fold on itself making crevices. Hope this helps!

What a timely video. I just picked up a lobo over the weekend, and haven't liked how it's been taking to my tank. I'll try throwing some food at it. Might move it into lower flow too. I've got it on the bottom, but that spot gets significant undertow from my gyre powerheads.

When feeding i used a 2 liter soda bottle cut in half and sit it over the coral with the small opening pointing upward, the use a pipette to inject the food in the small opening over the top of the brain keeping shrimp and fish from stealing the meal. Also works well on many lps. Thanks for sharing friend.

Very helpful. I just got my first Lobo the other day looks very very very similar to the one in video, pink outer layer followed buy a bright green and blue centre. Iv tried feeding but no response so I'll keep on trying.

Stunning photography and great information. one thing with a lobo to add. They will kill any coral within range of their filaments. my hammer colony got nuked by my lobo and i lost 3-4 heads overnight and the hammer was about 10cm away from the lobo.

I've actually found lobos to be pretty hardy in comparison to say something like euphyllia. I have about 7 in my current system varying in size from medium to large which I try to feed a couple times a week with as you say the pumps off. As with other corals the type of light and the amount of it can greatly affect the corals appearance. I have a lobo with two nice size heads 1 of which was getting more light than the other due to some shading from rock work and although I purchased the piece with both heads looking the same the second shaded head has a very noticeable variation in color it has adopted over time due to this. I've also placed lobos in various parts of the tank in varying flow and light and they seem to do well almost anywhere near the bottom of the tank unlike something like euphyllia where I've had flesh tear easily in even moderate flow areas.

Do you find it helpful to cut back the skeleton from where they have receded so new growth has a better chance to form

Found your video informative. Recently purchased a lobophyllia, it arrived and I acclimatized it for 4 hours. Next day looked good. Day after it had a small patch of brown tissue (I assume was necrotic) near the wound site (where it was split from the main animal). Third day that brown area spread, and fourth day spread to 1/3 the 2" frag. I removed it, worried that it might be an contagious disease. Anyone have insight?

Given that Symphyllia corals are practically the same thing, I'm surprised how easy of a time I've had with this coral. I'm surprised to hear that you've had issues with Lobos...I guess they must not be as similar as I've always thought? I've not had too many Lobos so I cannot say anything good or bad about them.

I'm switch my brains from sanded to a bare bottom. Does cutting the skeleton (the base) only to make it sit closer to the bottom glass cause stress?

Perhaps they would benefit from aminos?

Lobophyllia definitely sounds like a disease but isn’t...well maybe it’s an addiction to some reefers 😂

Everyone says different. You say lower light around 85 PAR. Other say medium to high light 150-250 PAR.... Third say something third.... One of the most frustrating things in this hobby is that there's absolutely no concrete information about anything. All information are way too relative. Only way to figure out is to try different things by yourself. No way you can get any useful knowledge by reading or watching videos.
