Here is a radio controlled plane i made during the lockdown. It made only from foam parts that were lying around and cost $0. I also needed it to be able to take off and land in this small backard we have here.

Nice work! Love the literal-number-8-wire torque-rod setup for the ailerons and the all-moving tailplane, and it flies really smooth... Just be careful with fencelines though, they're apparently as concerned with the possibility of a drone/RC plane etc. overflying someone elses' property as they are with you leaving your property to launch/recover it - hence why I'm not flying in lockdown sadly, my section's too small. My deltas generally have high enough thrust-to-weight and easy-going stall characteristics that I can launch and recover near-vertically, so that's no problem - but once I'm up there, there's nowhere I can fly so much a tight figure-eight without overflying a neighbour or a road. :( Oh well, time to build something overly complicated that I can maiden once the restrictions lift I guess!

Drone / rcplanes? Please read FAA laws concerning flying over private property before you start talking out of your ANvZ.

Sad I missed your Oamaru slope soaring video up till now. Do you use a lot of rudder or is it just bank and yank?

For the slope soaring, i use a bit of rudder if the winds are light - to conserve altitude etc. But when there's plenty of life its just back and yank. The lockdown plane doesn't have rudder input.

pgvc - since i never heard of a 'rear wing', everything that follows is gibberish. but, for the sake of discussion - wiki is FAR from being infallible. in this case, it is useful to be aware of some underlying details. the use of a flat-bottomed cambered profile results in an airfoil that 'mounts' at zero-degrees aoa. BUT, a few degrees of Positive aoa are BUILT Into the PROFILE. see profiles resembling the clark-y. this type of airfoil is said to be 'mounted' at zero degrees. in the case of a glider, this type of (zero-mount) profile is Least-drag, and MOST efficient. in Any case, where there is active elevator control, the wing and horiz-stab SHOULD be Parallel to one another. period. elevator TRIM is used, as necessary. thus, it is clear that discussion of GLIDERS and powered models at the same time, is sometimes Problematic. cheers googletranslate
