The Lone Ranger cartoon 1966 ( Filmation )

The first thing I ever saw on a colour tv. My friends, the Lucases. were first on the block and I went over on a Saturday to play. We never got out the door. It would be five years later before we got our own in my family.

I used to watch The Lone Ranger around 1969 when I was 5, it was on WNEW 5 (if I remember right) and one episode I remember well was where they had this villain called "Quicksilver" who was very fast and unstoppable, who wound up losing his power somehow at the episode's end. Filmation had many great kids' shows and this was one of them.

The "Quicksilver" episode is also on KZfaq. The chemical he took was Q31. While trying to steal a million dollars, The Lone Ranger used to bait and try to trap him. The villain Quicksilver used all the remaining Q31 he had and at the end of the episode, he slowed down as the chemical formula wore off and aged him 70 years into a very old and decrepit man. The authorities wanted to arrest Quicksilver, but the Lone Ranger convinced them he had paid for his crimes because of his wasted life.

FUN FACT: For several nights in early Fall 1777, during the first stage of the British Army's campaign to capture Philadelphia, a ghostly glowing horseman terrorized Continental Army pickets posted outside the town of Newark, Delaware. Fired at multiple times, he seemingly defied death until a grizzed sergeant from the local area took matters in hand. He gathered all the verbal testimony he could about the rider's usual pattern of approach, then waited at an optimum spot to ambush him. That same night, he did, firing a single round which brought the rider to earth. The Patriots discovered a British cavalryman wearing a steel curiass -- one bearing a couple of dents from the prior encounters . He'd used a linen sheet impregnated with a glowing chemical to conceal his features during his raids, which were designed to put the enemy pickets on edge, wear them out, and possibly force a fear-inspired abandonment of the key post on the road from Head-of-Elk (now Elkton) to Newark -- and thus to the Brandywine. But this time the man had been hit in the head, killing him instantly.

You left off the best part -- according to the legend of the Ghost of Cooch's Bridge, he became a ghost. Also... "During the Battle of Cooch’s Bridge in 1777, when a British cannonball struck the brick facade of Welsh Tract Church near Newark, a young volunteer fighter named Charlie Miller lost his head as he was riding through the cemetery next to the church. An historic church graveyard-located along Welsh Tract Road, off Route 896 south of Delaware Stadium-is associated with Delaware’s Headless Horseman. A British cannonball decapitated Charlie Miller, a young Colonial volunteer during the Battle of Cooch’s Bridge."

FILMATION WAS THE BEST They put their spin on practically every classic adventure hero: FLASH GORDON, TARZAN, SUPERMAN, BATMAN- and THE LONE RANGER We will never see their like again...

Keith Brown you've got a point, but in the 70s, parent's groups had to get involved, and make sure that we learned a lesson in every episode. the best show to do that was Fat Albert. after that, the shows got too preachy. getting back to your statement about Filmation being the best, in the 60s they had some good licenses(the Archies, Fantastic Voyage, and the Hardy Boys, not to exclude the DC superhero cartoons they did.) still love cartoons, but the 70s and 80s were kind of lame. 60s cartoons were awesome(Space Ghost, Frankenstein Jr, the Impossibles.) didn't get to see all of the 60s superhero cartoons until youtube. Hanna-Barbera made awesome superhero cartoons in the 60s(see last sentence)

610otaku Thanks for the response If you ever get the chance check out their FLASH GORDON which has an adult approach with the hero caught between Dale and the Princess-although still a child's toon...I wish there were more LONE RANGER episodes -many of the plots were very good In fact I would take the old Marvel toons that did not move that well OVER Disneyfied (Disney-fried ) Marvel anyday!

This just came up on my page. I was 12 when this series started on Saturday mornings. Like a previous poster, I had seen the reruns of the live TV series. I appreciate the animation style of this series more now than back then. I didn't have color TV back then.

Yes, very dark indeed. People forget that in this Animated TV series like "Johnny Quest" and Speed Racer," characters actually were killed or died in these episodes. If that's what you meant by very dark. It's also a darker animation and later episodes' animation was like the animation used in the British TV series "Monty Python's Flying Circus".

FILMATION studios had nothing to do with the 1966 animated series. In fact,1966 was the year Filmation began with The New Adventures Of Superman series. They produced that awful,watered-down version of 1980,though. Why isn't the 1966 version on DVD?

+Kokujin1014 What do you mean, awful? "Watered-down", really? As much as I love the 1966 cartoon, I like Filmation's Lone Ranger better as it was closer to the original source, better written and better animated. Just my opinion.
