The Lone Ranger gets a big screen adaptation, and now he and Tonto must stop the baddies of the 1800s....so a train is probably involved. Jeremy reviews "The Lone Ranger".

The main problem with this movie is just the editing... this is why it's 2 hours 1/2 for no particular reason. As for the rest of the film, it's fine in general. And also, Johnny Depp is not playing as Jack Sparrow-ish as I though he would...I've pretty enjoyed this movie! Not ''Awesometacular'' or ''Buy on Blu-Ray'' ratings, but definitely a ''Good time, no alcohol required'' :)

Yeah, it could have used a lot more editing. But overall, sorry, loved it. Depp was awesome, Armie Hammer was having a good time and, of course, Helena Bonham Carter in everything is she does is great. It didn't deserve the evisceration it got from the critics.

Do you have any complaint other than the length? The only other thing I'm hearing is that it's cartoony, which is what makes the movie so fun. It doesn't take itself seriously and go the Dark Knight route the way EVERY other movie does these days. Yes, it is overly long and could have been shorted in more than one place, but I had loads of fun watching it.

Ahazia 'D Man i love you effort to try to calm them down, but lets just be fair. 90% of youtube commenters are ignorant human beings. I liked this movie, sure it is a bit too long though the ending fight scene was worth it and many of the scenes with Johnny. Its a shame this movie had a flat out Lone ranger & thats not the fault of the actor but of the script only being thinking "Alrighty, lets make a Pirates of the caribean meets Indians, Cowboys and cannibals prequel sequel". Though if i did find it with a low price on blu ray, i would buy it because its a good movie to have in the background when your with, serious hangovers, bored or just up for some great Gore action.

I love Johnny Depp as an actor (his serious works such as Finding Neverland are very well done) but after seeing him play Jack Sparrow over and over, I'm getting really annoyed. I understand what they are trying to do with Tonto and I appreciate it but it pushed the Lone Ranger out of the way and made him look really, really dumb. My friends actually said 'it should've been called Tonto: the Movie'. However, they're forgetting what made the Lone Ranger legend work way back in the 30's-50's and that was the Lone Ranger and Tonto worked together as a team. They were yin and yang. Both had their own unique skill sets that they put to good use. One couldn't work without the other. If the filmmakers had kept that in mind, it wouldn't have been so bad. The other thing that drove me nuts was the 'white man's guilt' that they shoved into the film and hit me over the head. I know that people did some very atrocious things but I want to enjoy a movie, not get wracked with guilt.

I grew up with Johnny Depp! His movies anyway. I have yet to meet him in person. But when I do, you better believe it will be the most interesting conversation ever conceived between two people. Of all the celebrity success stories in Hollywood, Johnny Depp has been the most relatable to me. Against all odds, this rural Kentuckian managed to become the one of the most prolific actors in cinematic history. Every role he's ever played has just the right amount of his usual routine and originality to make them unique. The Lone Ranger is a supremely underrated movie. It's nothing short of pure summer escapism. And the actors and crew know this. It almost doesn't matter to me that it's two and a half hours long. It felt like two hours honestly. I can't say it will be remembered, but it will probably one of those forgotten cult classics that people will rediscover in a few years. Until that time, I have the Bluray ;)

This movie is actually SOLID. I'll never quite get the hate fully. Yes, it's a it too long and meandering, like a ton of other movies... that don't get the same level of hate. Yes a few dumb moments... like a bunch of other movies, that don't get the same level of hate. Yes, Johnny Depp plays a Native... after getting the blessing of the tribe portrayed in the movie and being made a member. So... it's fine? One of the best action scenes of the decade, incredible cinematography, likeable-enough leads, damn good production design, solid music, some emotional moments tied to some pretty big themes related to the imperialism of America. It's got flaws, but it's pretty good anyway.

Hubby and I are both 46 and we were not impressed. We're with you on it being way too long and the Old Tonto segments being unnecessary. We didn't see any real friendship between the two main characters (like you said, the Lone Ranger would have left Tonto to die if he hadn't had needed information!). The train rescue finale was about the only thing that stands out in a good way.We really wanted to like it, but found ourselves just waiting for it to be over.

I have a theory about some of the weirder bits of the movie, like the flesh eating rabbits and why Tonto is a more interesting character then the Ranger himself. The movie is basically an elderly Tonto telling the tale of the Lone Ranger to a child. He changes a few details to juice up the story and make himself not look like the typical native sidekick that people in that time period probably think he is.

I like how this movie portrays our (caucasian) greed and the truth about how America (as well as Canada) was taken deceitfully all for the sake of shiny rocks and natural resources. In addition, it shows who actually built the railroads which of course was mostly off of the backs of immigrant chinese men, as well as african slaves, who were also taken advantage of and exploited by greedy business men. I, a regular caucasian citizen, can accept the truth of my ancestors bloody and heinous past and I take responsibility for it but for others ignorance is bliss.

I watched the film once on Sky Movies. It was...''okay''. But you make a good point about it being to long and I also felt the plot just a little to confusing. It almost reminded me of the same problems with the Pirate of the Caribbean sequels in that there is way too much going on for it's own good. Same problem with this movie, if they had just trimmed some stuff in it and put the unused footage in like a Extended or Director's cut it would have been better. Also I didn't care for the idea of old Tonto telling the young kid about the story of the Lone Ranger and l felt would have been better if they just removed it completely. All in all I didn't hate the movie it had it's moments but the film really had a lot of problems that could have been easily fixed and tweaked.

I love Johnny Depp regardless but it's unfortunate that Jack Sparrow seems to creep in with everything he does. I need more Edward Scissorhands in my life, not him being that character again, but being a character that is like O.o what that was Johnny Depp (Didn't know that was him for years.)? I actually liked this movie though, I watched it twice on DVD after renting it and I enjoyed it. Sure, it's a bit too long and the narrative of the story being told to the kid could have been removed but whatever, it didn't detract too much for me. It was entertaining and fun.

I actually liked The Lone Ranger inspite of the running time. Sure it had some points that weren't perfect but it was a fun movie with interesting characters. Jack Sparrow is camp but Tonto much more subtle in this film. It's just that Depp ends up playing Depp in most movies. I don't understand why the movie has been panned so badly. I say 'hi yo Silver and go for the movie' anyway.

I don't see Jack Sparrow in this role or any other role Johnny Depp plays except Jack Sparrow. Now sure he plays a lot of characters that are strange but that's because he is good at it. He keeps doing those kinds of roles not because he is unable to portray any other character but because he can do them well.

Continuing my rant on Kemosabe (feel free to ignore me ;) I read the term Kemosabe was originally taken from a sign that one of the creators of the Ranger saw, and it wasn't a real term, so I can see their excuse in changing the meaning. But why? What's wrong with "trusted friend?" What was wrong with them being friends? Yes, in the original, they weren't exactly equal, but why not take this as an opportunity to update that, and make them truly equal partners? Why do they hate each other?

His design and inspiration (made by Kirby sattler), the way he acts as tonto and the storyline behind it all is spectacualr. Peter mountain and Joel Harlow worked on the design and makeup for Johnny and they created tonto perfectly. The Comanche tribe way also involved in the design of Tonto so that he was dressed appropriately as a Comanche member. I love you Johnny

I finally got to see this movie (2020) and its really good. Its a re imagined version of LR but it has a great western style mixed with campy humor almost like Raiders of the Lost Ark. But Just like the Green Hornet movie(flop) fans may have wanted a darker hero story. Depp as Tonto was playing eccentric-Tonto but with a understandable back story . Lone Ranger is almost as good as the Indiana Jones movies.

I saw this movie in the theatre with a friend during his Birthday. After the movie was over and we walked out, he loved it, but I hated it. And he was like "WTF?! How could you not like that?!". I haven't talked to him in a while.

One problem I had with that was not mentioned here was the sister in law and Lone Ranger relationship. I was not cool with that at all. Really? You had relations with the guys brother and his kid and you still want to have something like that with his brother?! NO, NO NO and NO. Everything else mentioned, yes agreed. The climax was the best part.

Watching it in 2020 and I kind of like it. I definitely agree it could be sorter and narration doesn't make sense but if you have nothing to do and know idea what to watch, give it ago. Nothing else to do until COVID 'vanishes'

My dad is from the 50's, the time when The Lone Ranger series was popular. And he loved the movie. It had the Lone Ranger theme, guns, horses and that beautiful shot at the end when The Lone Ranger says "Hi Ho Silver!". Just like the series used to be.

All I want to know is why did they kept flashing back to the kid constantly and unnecessarily? I think that's what really ruined it. Though, I agree with almost everything he said in his review, I think the movie would have been fine without the kid in the middle parts, if he was in at the start and the end, that would have been good.

I didn't watch this movie until now because a lot of critics like you Jeremy, gave it a bad rating. I have to say, I really liked it. Also I did not think he was like Jack Sparrow, the only similarity I see between Tonto and Jack Sparrow is that they are both weird characters.

You might interested to know, Mr. Jahns, that comic creators Warren Ellis and John Cassaday came up with a nice variant on the Lone Ranger (called the Dead Ranger) as part of their series, "Planetary", which itself is a clever dissection of 20th Century and even late 19th Century fiction in all its forms. You can find it in Volume 4 of the collected series proper but I heartily recommend the whole series for anybody who's ever loved stuff that "serious" critics never got. Their version of James Bond alone is worth the look.

Totally justified two and a half hours. Totally. But "critics" didn't like it, huh? That's right. Most critics review movies today base their critics on points such as "The Lone Ranger can't leave Tonto buried in the sand, paints him in a bad light." Or "Tonto reminded me of Jack Sparrow." Was there ever a time when critics reviewed movies on the direction (classic but thrilling in here, with more real stunts than CGI, etc), the comedic pace (working like clockwork), the art... Nope, because that would involve actually knowing things about movies. And jeez, you know, they can't waste time doing an actual review of the movie, easier to follow the hypes. "The Lone Ranger can't leave Tonto buried in the sand, paints him in a bad light." Jeez, seriously? Back to school, Mr. Jahns.

I don't remember reading a lot of reviews that said the "paints the Lone Ranger in a bad light" thing. Even then, what's your point? We're supposed to root for this character, and yet he does shit like leave Tonto to die.

Hey J, what do you think of the buzz that Armie Hammer (was lol) wanted to play Batman - as in 'young Justice League "team up" Batman' And of course I say "was kinda" bc this film which will be forgotten in T-minus 1 day is why. Who knew "Buzz kill" could speak to young Hollywood careers lol

Actually, aside from the scene you mentioned and the little boy sub-plot? thing?? I really enjoyed the movie and didn't feel its length at all. It was what it needed to be for the type of film it was. And despite the Jack Sparrowisms of the character I found I really enjoyed Tonto's character arch in the movie. I was pretty entertained.
