Probably better than having to euthanize… I just had to euthanize my two dogs of 12 years one after the other within 3 months and it is a really terrible thing to have to do… however, it’s terrible either way, I don’t imagine that finding them already gone would have been any easier… but the euthanasia goes against instinct… you spend their whole life caring for them and making sure they live as long as possible and feel good but then when you have to euthanize them it’s just terrible… personally I held their paws and stayed with them the entire procedure which is very sad because you literally get scarred with the image of them dying while you’re in control of the situation… just sucks… for a while afterwards all you can see when you think about them is the image of them on the table at the vet during the procedure because that memory cuts deeper than most… almost like having to kill your own family… no amount of sickness or old age makes it an easier thing to do. However, being on solid spiritual footing helps, and I’m not talking about religion.

after i lost my second cat in my mid 20s, i decided to never go through that pain again...I've often joked about getting a turtle as it might just outlive me...but after hearing this, daaaaum. 40 years. he wasnt a "caretaker" thats FAMILY! i have so much respect for the person who cared so much about such a noble animal we share life with on this amazing world we live on. god bless everyone reading this.
@spades77 Жыл бұрын
I completely agree with you stranger. I've lost not only cats, but other pets too throughout my existence. The very last pet I owned was a black cat I found when I was a kid. She was only a kitten and pretty young. Her mother abandoned her because she was obviously a runt sadly. I took her in as an anniversary gift for my mom. She was on her anniversary at the time with her husband and I thought I'd make a good gift. She always wanted a black cat. She was named, Spooky. She like to hide in the dark and jump out when she was a kitten. She developed a sassy nature when she got older. But overall she was a kind cat for the most part 😅 She lived to be about, I want to say 18 years old or so? My mom passed away around 6 years ago and spooky was the last pet I had. She eventually passed away around 3 or 4 years ago? Which opened some old wounds. Because this was my mom's cat and she passed away too. I was grateful that I was there for final hours. So I got to see her off right before she passed away. That was then I decided I just don't want any more pets. It's just too much. I will always be grateful for the memories I have with every single one of my pets. Even the fish I owned. But I'm tired of being sad. I wouldn't mind only a pet again. I like cats. I even thought about maybe owning a dog for once. But I just can't take the heartbreak. Too much is happened in these past several years. Sorry for the life story. If anybody bothered to read my wall of text. You have my respect. I wish to everyone that they have a happy weekend in some way. God bless

I respect the decision, either way it's not an easy choice to make. My father decided never to have a cat again after his last cat passed at 20+. I can't imagine not having at least one cat. Although the Heartbreak is real, I remain proud that I offered a loving, kind and stable environment for a life that was here at the same time as me.
