Nicely done film, as always Dave. Pretty stout loads for a 20 but it would be interesting to see how they compare to the heavy 12 gauge (bore) cartridges you normally shoot for high birds......I'm sure you could make them work! I like the look of the solid rib on that little Browning also, not as common over here. Thanks and best regards.

Dave always like your ballistics tests on cartridges I have always used 16 bores in side by side for 40 odd years now a unmatched pair of Browning under and overs would be very interested in your future test my only comment is there isn't a great selection 28 grams Hull high pheasant performances quite well RC seem to have more punch will be most interested in your view on guns and test.

If your gonna shoot 32 and 34 gram loads in a 20 you might as well just use a 12. Longer shot colom equals more deformed pellets . In my humble opinion patterns will suffer. Recoil in the lighter gun will also be a factor with the 34 gram load. Light gun light load after all 20s were always for kids and women and old men that could onlymanage a light gun. Good test though
@DaveCarrieShooting
@DaveCarrieShooting 4 жыл бұрын
i agree my friend, definately felt the recoil without recoil pads on, most expensive game guns come wood to wood tho
@mchughcb
@mchughcb 4 жыл бұрын
Not if your 20 bore has three barrels then its the weight of a 12 bore and shooting Winchester 3" 36gr pheasant loads is a doddle.
@manofkentcatapultsgunsando5069
@manofkentcatapultsgunsando5069 4 жыл бұрын
@@mchughcb There Horrible things though aint they mate. Especially with a shot cam on em. And in 3 inch the shot collum is even longer and under more pressure than normal . This can only lead to shot deformation and ragged patterns. This is not my opinion its a Fact.
@johannpotzinger3638
@johannpotzinger3638 4 жыл бұрын
its a fairy tale from times of fibre wads in 20gauge more pellets are deformed.by plastic wads the wad is between shot and barrel so there is no deforming contact.btw: there is no need for more deadly....dead is dead .34 gramm and more like most of 12gauge loads are jet overkill gamebirds.

After watching this dave starting to think do we need the bigger loads that 32 g patterned well bud

I’d like to see more of the 20g tests Dave. 32 & 34g seems more of a 12g load but still a fantastic result out of a little gun! Still do the same speed and shot still travels as far. Where would you draw the line for the 20g on high birds?

So a 12 bore 32g 5 doing 1425fps is no different than a 20 bore 32g 5 doing 1425fps. So why is a 20 always seen as less powerful, what actually is the difference?

Very interesting film Dave, but I can't really understand why someone shoots a 20 bore with 32/34grms? They are much more suited to 25-28grms. Why not use a lightweight 12? Less recoil and cheaper cartridges.
