The Long Combination Vehicle(LCV): Legalized Weapons on Our Highways

The long combination vehicle is a tractor trailer configuration which is roughly 130' long, compared to the average tractor trailer unit, which is 75' in length. Yet, these massive big trucks hauling around two 53' trailers are perfectly legal on our highways.
How can these massive machines possibly be safe? Does common sense not dictate that something almost twice the length of the average truck and trailer would be dangerous for numerous reasons?
The M.T.O. in the province of Ontario supports them as do most of the other Canadian provinces. Each of the provinces has a set of rules and guidelines for the operation of LCV'S. However, these units are not monitored as stringently as initially promised when they were first allowed on the road. It seems the governing bodies are becoming careless with monitoring these behemoth machines on our highways and roadways.
Shippers and receivers love these configurations.... twice the freight for a little extra 'chump change'..... a very lucrative deal for them, at the cost of the safety of the rest of us on the road.
Find more on the LCV unit and it's dangers, as well as a comparison between Super B's and LCV's at www.smart-truck...

Yes, but they only run those in remote and rural areas, or on private roads for obvious reasons.

Drove LCV for years and I have seen more accidents with single combinations units than LCVs. Your points make no sense and it's guys like you that are killing this industry by bashing LCVs and turning off drivers from getting into the industry. Two question for you here do you boycott oversized loads or specialized freight also that can be longer heavier and wider than LCV's? It's seems that your an old timer with lots of experience in the I industry so have you ever pulled an LCV? If so please share your experiences please and than I might respect your point a little more. Take care my friend.

+James Duphay LCV's haven"t been around for years. You're pulling twice the freight for a couple cents more a mile. I did pull B-trains in the Canadian Rockies for 5 years but back then that paid really well. Dave

Road Trains have been around for YEARS in Australia and Australian roads are SHIT. They're 2 lane highways in poor conditions. Also, they go thru floodways and they work fine. Some Road Trains in Australia have 4 trailers and they don't have major problems. What are you bitching about man???

I'm a green horn driving super b . My trips are only 140- 160 km away but on one of my trips there is a huge hill I gotta climb and my truck can only make it up in third low the other driver that follows me makes it in five high but he's a little more experienced . Lately weathers been awsome where I am but I'm worried about these surprise winter storms we get in Canada .

I loved running the Canadian Rockies. The long pulls can be hard on the truck but the scenery and the experience gained are well worth it. If you can handle b-trains in the Rockies you can handle anything! Drive safe. Dave

Completely agree and people from Australia in comments section i dont think it snows in Australia so in normal weather conditions its not an issue running lcv with common sense but the real issues is in winter

LCV is the government jargon used. They're called ROAD TRAINS. That's usually the term that people would understand easily.

Had them in Australia for years so don't know what the problem is. They are not even heavy trucks with tri axle dollies and tri-axle trailers. Only little trucks all ropund.

Anything for money anymore is all they are interested in..Just like the cell phones & all the games they are playin while drivin..yet they really crackin down on the seat belts..well, I drove cross country OTR for 25 years without a seat belt & still drive around town here without it...But its takin away money outta their pockets, but don't care anymore..cause I know that sooner or later I'll pay a seat belt ticket...but its my right & they are takin it away for money..so your right driver...it's all about the allmigty dollar..

nevermind just in snow at night in western canada these guys are lucky to see half of the pup and hes solely relying on himself being straight and that every driver that passes him doesnt make a quick move or sees him move over. also to add to this lcv run teams to make it a rolling disaster. you hardly make anymore more running lcv thats true and for what a little more money running a huge risk one screw up and it screws up your cdl and you get fired remeber that when you volunteer for bs. the pay isnt worth the risk. running lcvs can only go to certain places and certain routes and doesnt make driving enjoyable. Who makes sure that the people in lcvs are the best drivers out there the companies thats right thats why day and ross have people from third world countries driving them and im scared of these dumbasses in a 53 footer nevermind a lcv.
