As an Englishman I've never actually been Botham's biggest fan but his ability is unquestioned, he single-handedly won matches and tests and he's done so much for sick kids, hats off to him. Chappell doesn't come across well at all.

You could see Botham would've been willing to drop it had there been a little bit coming back the otherway, but Chappel was sat there like a sad, old man. To not give Botham any credit at all, considering his charity work has meant kids with lukemia now have a 90% survival chance compared to less than 10% when he started, is totally disrespectful!

Hmmm. That’s overstated. Wouldn’t it be fairer to say that nobody remembers the Chappell brothers anymore, sadly. I say ‘sadly’ because Ian was a fine captain and number three,Greg was a super four and Trevor was a most-accurate underarm bowler. Botham was very good. Very, very good. But he would have been even better if he had been born mute. Ian Botham was a bit of a hero of mine when I was young and spunky. Then I met him…. The man is living embodiment of the word, ‘poltroon’. @@mikespearwood3914 That’s all very well. But Mr. ‘Beefy’ Botham has qualities that Mr. Chappell lacks: 1) Above average physical weight which he has never been too shy to throw about. 2) A negative intelligence quotient that he has never been slow to demonstrate, either. I believe Chappell's account 100%. Maybe Botham was too pissed to remember the glass, but as an Aussie (and a Chappell supporter) I felt the following:- 1. It's a dumb idea to start sledging a pissed bloke who's bigger than you. In any situation. 2. Botham looked to be extending the olive branch at the start of that final interview (probably thinking "life's too short for this shit") and Chappell didn't even look at him. Bad start 3. When asked to say something positive Botham said Ian was a good cricketer and captain (which he was), Chappell was disgraceful in his response (love him or hate him Botham was an amazing all rounder) Chappell indeed looked very bitter and lonely and I felt pretty average (and embarrassed) watching him in that "interview". Just my opinion, And I'm biased towards Australia, but not in this case.

Fair play to you as an Aussie and a Chappell supporter. You’ve read it fairly... a staged drama but Botham gave the impression of being willing to forgive and forget while Chappell does himself no favours. Those two men are the only ones who know the real events. Whatever the genesis of argument, the size of Botham (when he was fit) and his noted robustness suggests any physical altercation probably resembles Botham’s version more than Chappell’s.
