I've been saying it for years..Telekinesis should not be allowed in professional golf.

Had one that took at least 1 minute to drop. My playing partners cited the 10 sec rule but I told them I'm not allowed to hit a moving ball.

The rule was clarified after this incident. Sam Torrance said the ball was clearly moving to his eyes (I believe him as it has happened to me but not quite as long, perhaps 15 seconds) and the rule he was playing to, at that time, was that it is a penalty to strike a moving ball. Of course, the danger is some golfers will mistake, or claim, oscillation for continued movement and we could have ridiculous delays waiting for the wind to blow the ball in the hole. The clarification is unfortunate for cases such as this, but makes sense.

accually no it is not lega according to pga rulesl. If a golfer approches a ball with his club in hand, and the ball is moved, it is a 2 stroke penalty.

if you know how grass is laid you would understand this is obvious interference. It's like a carpet, if you move it here with your shoes, it will budge a little over there. Had he stayed on the spot he took the shot, the ball would have never went in

I played in a club competition once, in a foursome, and one of the players had a ball stop on the lip like that. He waited 10 seconds and then jumped in the air, landing with both feet on the green. The ball immediately dropped into the hole. He was about 12 feet from the hole, so I do not know whether or not his jump had any influence. But - was it an illegal act?

@wils0007 nearly, not quite. It is once the player has entered the area 10 feet within the outspanning radius of the hole. In other words, if the putt is over 10 feet, you hit it and stand outside of 10 feet, you can wait as long as you like. Once inside 10 feet, you may only wait 10 seconds from that point for it to fall in. After then is the penalty incurred.

yeah but as he moves closer to the ball and he's moving his feet around it's causing some vibrations and he's forcing it to go in the hole it shouldn't be allowed

Unfortunately Torrance got a 1 shot penalty as the rule states you are only allowed 10 seconds after u get to your ball.

So essentially the ball has to come to a complete stop before the player can begin his count to 10. I think the ball may have still been oscillating which is why he could stand there and wait longer

out of curiosity... he seems to not move his right foot at all once he is stood next to the ball. Is that a coincidence or is that a rule?... like upon reaching the ball you can have 30 seconds to pick it up but you can't be seen to be stamping your feet etc lol. Just wondered...

it doesnt matter, the ball was still in motion, if the ball is still in motion it doesnt matter how long it takes for it to drop

illegal... once the ball stops you have 10 seconds.. he waited 10 seconds to walk to it then an additional 30, should have counted as an extra stroke

It's a stupid rule, you can't hit a moving ball and physics proves it is still moving if it eventually falls. They changed some rules yet left this one and also the one that says you have to hit out of a divot after your ball finds the centre of the fairway 300 mts from the tee.
