Aragorn felt his whole life that his family legacy was cursed with the seed of corruption but here he finally realizes he is not like Isildur, he doesn’t fight for power or greatness, he does it for friendship and caring for the people, even the little ones. Isildur actually wasn't corrupted. It's not explained why in the movies but the scene where he is riding, is ambushed by orcs and dies as the ring abandon him is him actually on the way to get rid of the ring by seeking Elrond's council, this is why the ring did as a matter of fact abandon him as even after a year of trying to corrupt him it had little effect, it rather was lost for millennia then be in Isildurs hands.

@@harry_theking159 Mumakil skin is not as hard as a troll's, remember how many arrows he was unloading back in Moria and nothing, and a headshot broke the arrow, it is only under the neck that you have a chance, and this one is armored, probably a chieftain(yes they can be chieftains) and by the looks of it an Ologhai of all things, so I'm not surprised Aragorn couldn't solo him(at least not under those specific cramped conditions). That thing would take quite a few arrows aimed at the neck or a good spear chug deep into its throat before it goes down.

It'll never be remade the same way this one was. Thats not just because of nostalgia, but because of how the film industry is now. CGI looks terrible nowadays because theres no love in it, mass produced in sweatshop like fashion for well under the money the talent deserves. Actors not being able to keep their noses out of political affairs thinking their opinions are more of value and influence than anybody else's. And just in general I don't know how they could perfectly cast all of these characters and more again. I just don't see it possible. Film industry pushing agendas to cater for all audiences and to tick boxes for marketing . Rings of Power is a great example of this. It's devastating because we have the technology, skill and money to do it right, to create insane masterpieces that could last 100s of years if not forever. Just that everything is being poisoned, corrupted and warped for quick cash grabs and appeasing groups of people that would riot if representation isn't a massive topic in a entirely unrelated piece of art.

The best part of this entire trilogy for me is when, right after the speech is done, Aragorn says, "For Frodo" and Merry and Pippin charge headlong into a battle that is almost certain death without so much as a single thought for their own regard. It always makes me sad [and a little annoyed] everytime anyone says "they are proud of Frodo" ---- this goes to show that even the audience think [or assume] that all the main characters think of Frodo as the HERO, when in actuality, Frodo would have not made it [not even halfway to Mordor] without SAM. I understand that Frodo carried most of the burden, but then again, that's because he was the rightful heir of the ring [Bilbo's heir], hence he is literally the only one allowed as ring bearer. The mere fact that Sam has been treated as a side character is so unjustified.. During the last stand, You could hear the main characters screaming at the top of their lungs "for Frodo"... And this itself is a testament that all of them only think of Frodo, not even the slightest regard for Sam.... It's so infuriating because if the roles where reversed, I'm pretty sure that Sam would have made it much farther than Frodo did , tbh.

@@Infernal460 This is why I like the Extended Editions more cause Mouth of Sauron scene changes everything. To Aragorn, Pippen, Merry, and the crew, Frodo is dead, which implies that Sauron already has the Ring(or will soon). Sauron talking to Aragorn is basically saying "It's already over. Come join our side: the Winning Side". It's the same temptation Saruman and so many others fell bait to. I don't think there will ever be a better audience experience in a theaters than what these movies provided. Unless you've been there you have absolutely no idea. The level of emotional investment felt through the air. There were so many tears, and then literally entire theater cheered and celebrated as if their life depended on what was happening. It was magical. And can't help but notice incredible use of silence in this movie, and this scene in particular. That moment where everything goes quiet before Aragorn whispers "For Frodo" made it crash down on you like a hammer, and have an impact it would've not otherwise.

At least according to modern scholarship on the subject, by the likes of John Keegan or Adrian Goldsworthy, which is probably the closest we moderns will ever get to knowing what it was like to fight in pre-modern battles, being in the centre of the battle line was most likely a terrifying place to be. You couldn't hear anything other than the sounds clanging of metal and the screams of wounded and dying men, just a short distance away from you. But you'd also have absolutely no idea how well your side is doing, since you can't actually see over the men in front of you. That uncertainty was compounded the fact you're completely stuck in the center of the formation. Those in the back ranks can take comfort in being able to escape first, those in the front ranks are in an adrenaline filled frenzy and don't have the time to stop to think about their situation. But you're just squished in the middle, waiting to win or lose in a situation you likely have no ability to ever impact. So, as much as historians are able to reconstruct, being in the middle of the formation would have been absolutely terrible.

I don't know if anyone else feels the same but I love the moment from 1:50 when Sauron is speaking to Aragorn. You can see Aragorn going forward like something is calling him, at the same time you can see Gandalf and Legolas glimp of woriness. Right there, where Aragorn is putting his sword down and keeps going forward everyone is curious about what he is about to do. I believe this is a beautiful contrast between Aragorn and Isildur. When Isildur heard a voice calling him he gave up to it, however, Aragorn has seen through it and knows what his mission is here.

The best detail i love here in this scene it wasnt the epic speech or the charge but the fact that the ones that instantly went it wasnt the men nor the elves nor the dwarf but two little hobbits that have never been in the front lines of such army running fearless to what could have been their certain deaths, that detail with the rest always makes me cry

Man the scene with Gandalf right before the eagles came really was done beautifully. They made it seem like Gandalf, who is much stronger now due to him to being White instead of Gray was genuinely afraid/discouraged/all hope is lost once he saw the Nazgûl and their mounts flying towards them because he secretly was still holding out hope that Frodo would really save them by destroying the ring and saving middle earth and the people who marched out to confront the dark lord just to buy Frodo time and keep that eye away from him. But the moment he saw them, his expression made it seem as if all hope was lost. He seemed terrified and utterly heartbroken as he realized that he would have to see that many brave men, Aragon, Legolas and every one else die before him because he’d be the last one to fall due to him being an istari and maiar. Then the look of utter relief when the eagles came… man this was really well done.

The tone shifts in all of the major battles in this film are just so good. Triumphant at the beginning, but as the battle continues and sauron adds additional troops like the nazgul and trolls, the tone shifts towards more of dire circumstances. And once aragorn is kicked down, the tone shifts once more to extreme consequence and it is so spectacularly expressed in the film

I love the change in music when the fighting begins. As they're charging we get the uplifting fellowship score, but as soon as the forces collide the orchestra is replaced by a choir and their singing is dark and almost chilling. The moment that happens reality sets in that unless Frodo is still alive, which from their point of view is highly unlikely, they are done because for the first time they are truly in an unwinnable fight. They have no ace in the hole and no more allies to call upon, this truly is the end. Then the eagles appear the singing becomes ever so slightly lighter. But then Sauron discovers Frodo's presence and the music gets somber again. Great editing

People praise the Rohirrim' charge, which surely is outstandingly admirable, but this scene is also on par with it. These are last of the men, surrounded by millions of orcs. They know it's a suicide mission, even Gimli and Legolas were having their final moments together. Yet all of them, they charged. No fear, no hesitation. Also look at the diversity here. We have a dwarf, an elf, two hobbits, a wizard and the men of the west with their king. All different races, yet they charged together, like true brothers in arms. The unity, the courage, the fearlessness, the charge, the screams.... Mindblowing

A good theory. And Aragorn is unaffected, in the sense that he isn't like other men, nor Isildur: Both Morgoth and Sauron tainted Men, they corrupted them, lied to them, gave them fear of death and made them cowardly and dishonorable. Many of them carried those corruptions and impurities down the generations, their souls like white sheets with spots of dirt on them, and many of those Men had to overcome those corruptions while other great Men like Theoden, who called out to death with his fellow Rohirrim at the battle for Minas Tirith, had to overcome them for them. Aragorn was untainted, a clean soul, the kind of man you thought hadn't existed since they first came to Middle Earth, as if he had to be corrupted all over again, for the shadow over Isildur's lineage did not sway him.
@KomradeCPU
@KomradeCPU 2 жыл бұрын
@@teleportedbreadfor3days Indeed, King Theoden using Death as his warcry was a statement that they didn't fear it, for it was dying trying or living in fear, while at the same time being in accordance with Eru Iluvatar's plan for humanity since the beginning. Went full circle, that's why I come back to these videos from time to time, what a masterpiece.

Watching this scene now reminds me of two quotes from different media. The first is Game of Thrones, when Tywin Lannister says "Any man who has to say "I am the king" is no true King." And the second is the movie Troy, when Achilles tells Agememnon that "A king who fights his own battles, that would truly be a sight". Those two always pop in my head when watching this scene about Aragorn, the perfect depiction of not only a good true King, but of one who fights his own battles. Even though it's just a movie, the Achilles quote was right, it is quite a sight.

4:12 there's something about these next few shots when Aragorn goes down and it cuts to Legolas. The look of blind terror and panic on his face when he realizes Aragorn could legitimately die here. And then again at 4:22. Legolas is always composed, always graceful, you see it in the way he fights, the way he moves, even the way he talks. /None/ of that is present here. He's abandoned all of his usual battle tactics and he's literally /shoving/ orcs aside with his bare hands. Watching him desperately claw his way through the throng to even just try to reach Aragorn in time always breaks my heart a little.

IIRC in the original script and when they shot this scene. Aragon was supposed to be fighting a physical manifestation of Sauron himself.
