Read the books as a teenager, almost 50 years ago. The movie really did not do justice to this most critical chapter, in my view. So satisfying to savor Tolkien's unabridged words again. Cheers!

Story is so enormous it’s really hard for any movie to cover it all? But all the speeches moved to the wrong people was confusing? Rohirrim didn’t cry death as they went into battle( though they did apparently sing) crying death only happened after Eomer found his sister he thought dead on the battle field after fight with Nazgûl captain.

The movie downgraded many characters. It is 2 tenths worthy. There is still a production to be made that truly honors this magnificent tale. And that's an opportunity. Hooray!
@deborahbriscoe-graves6244 Жыл бұрын
I enjoyed the movie. Did it t|ell the whole story? No. Are three 3+ hour movies sufficient to tell; the tale of The Lord of the Rings? Not by a long shot! I would hazard a guess that a script that includes everything that people want would require at least 12 films of nearly 3+ hours each. Perhaps a television miniseries would be a more appropriate venue through which to present Tolkien's tale of Middle Earth and the Golden Ring.

Great idea about a series - I found the films disappointing mainly because they didn’t have the time to unfold the story and the characters. I thought Peter Jackson did a great job in terms of production and characters (except Farimir, miscast as a dope) but even with three films they were always going to be short. A series would be brilliant 😊

Glad to hear so many agree with me. This chapter is worthy of a film itself, as it sets out the whole Tolkien world in one succinct chapter. It is also beautifully told.with no flab. It is great storytelling too.

Ah this is one of my favorite chapters. Lord of the rings is action packed and full of adventure, but the best chapters involve meetings and intricate conversations like this one. I always look forward to reaching it upon a new reading

This chapter explains all that’s happened & why, you can’t understand the story without it. Best bit is what happened to Gandalf & explaining the fall into darkness of Sauroman.
@skillsmachine91646 ай бұрын
I still thought the movie did a decent job portraying it. There just simply was not enough time to have all of these discussions including people like bilbo's. Gandalf basically explains the whole back story in the film himself to frodo at bag end. And galadriel does a voice over at the start. There was simply too much. We didnt REALLLY need to hear all about gollum at the council and his part. They were able to do it much quicker in the film. But I still love the book better!!

If you havent listened to the fall of gondolin yet on here....do it. Its great. Its the ages before the ring...the first elves on middle earth, the valar, and morgoth who makes sauron sound like a puppy.

@@skillsmachine9164if you haven’t listened to it yet you’ve gotta listen to the lotr audiobooks by Phil Dragash.. he uses music and sound effects from the movies, it’s really the most cinematic audiobook experience I’ve ever had by far, they are absolutely amazing

This chapter could make a whole trilogy of its own...a prequel. There is so much in Tolkien's writings though...far more than any cinematic productions can convey. They do help to give images to the stories for those who can't imagine for themselves or need more visuals, etc.

@@guybrushthreepwood8174 What are you, capitalism's guardian angel? Saying you are glad to have such recordings and politely pointing out that because of the way they are arranged does not seem to me to be a major crime of any sort. But I see no reason anyway why a person shouldn't look a gift horse in the mouth. I hope you at least refrain from listening to these recordings since the person who loses out on a sale here is not the one who gave it as a gift after all.

One minor niggle, the elves voices don't quite fit. I think they should convey strength.
@martavdz4972 Жыл бұрын
They do at times; and then they suddenly become gentle and high-pitched. Elves aren´t just strong. They´re multi-faceted beings, as they´re so old. Merry, light-hearted, wise, brave, tough, serene, kind and gentle, outspoken, artistic, grieving the lost past... Perhaps that´s why Rob Inglis made their voices change their pitch so often.
