I love the two brothers. They are close despite the fact that GM tried hard to keep them separate from each other. The rules governing the Xu house were used to separate legitimate and illegitimate children. If it wasn't for Shiyi's intervention the brothers wouldn't have a relationship now. She was the one who encouraged them to play together even after Nanny Tao told her about the rules. She chose to ignore their rules so that the brothers could bond and it paid off. Concubine Wen is an opportunist. She thinks the reason Lingyi is paying attention to her son is because he's smart. She doesn't realize that Shiyi is the reason he has a relationship with both of his sons. She's teaching him how to become an engaged father. If it wasn't for her influence neither of his sons would have a relationship with him. I really love how united Lingyi/Shiyi are especially when it comes to his mother. I'm glad that Shiyi feels comfortable enough to speak her mind to the GM and her archaic beliefs. The old lady always has an opinion about something...lol We all know that her judgment (Lianfang) can't be trusted.

Trust each other it's a good for both husband and wife. Love this

Mom, these are our sons. Both of their achievements will provide merit to the Xu family. GM over looked that part, concentrated on suppressing Shiyiang more than anything. Shiyiang used logical examples to prove her point which didn't sit well with her mother-in-law. Biased, antiquated ideas on display, what her being an illegitimate daughter has to do with anything? If she thought she could embarrass Shiyi by that, she had a lot to learn.
